the latter.

take a client jack hole!

I got over it eventually and now I just stroll in there like a boss whenever I go to a restaurant when I am traveling alone out of town...

Seriously. I prefer going alone for the most part. If I want to hang out with someone, there's better environs than a crowded restaurant.

Decontamination is the part that hurts

Everyone has strange hangups, though. I seriously cannot have a phone conversation outside. I don't know why, I have nothing to hide and my neighbors are all in Arizona this time of year, but it just bugs me.

If you say something snarky like "Jim Beam will be along shortly... but he won't need his own place setting"

they'll just get confused and fumble with the menus

The place we stayed at had a Mexican restaurant attached to it which gave 10% off to guests. It was good. It also had large pitchers of margaritas during happy hour, which was also very good. The mojitos were also neato.

Some of it's fine. It's like anywhere else, if you can afford to live away from the slums/industrial pollution/whatever then it's totally fine. If you can't, then, well, hope you enjoy inhaling a lot of things you won't find in nature.

They grew up around Athens and went to university there. Some of their anecdotes echo the picture Nik paints of Ohio.

All of ohio's cities have fallen with the exception perhaps of columbus because of the state government workers and university propping it up....and it was never industrial to begin with.

but like rooks said, even in the most miserable cities like youngstown and akron you will find a gilded nexus of rich *** near by.

look for the houses facing in in like a "circle the wagons" type fashion. That is the KEY you'll be fine there...you'll get lost because we built all of the good neighborhoods like rat mazes to trap and keep out criminals... /shrug

if the houses face out, then you are up ***creek with no paddle and headed for deliverance falls...

we do all like bitching about how much ohio sucks....

Ohio - don't let this happen to you,
a cautionary tale

Ohio was a dire warning siren to the rest of the country for a long time... but nobody listened.

It started back in the seventies. The Tire Industry, aggravated by a hostile mob controlled union, pulled out to find cheaper labor and fewer car bombs...

we didn't stop them, we didn't tax or tariff them, nothing bad happened to them at all and the executives looked as happy as pigs in a fat house...

so all the other companies followed behind them, leading to the joke, will the last person to leave akron, please turn off the lights

the evacuation spread to the entirety of the rust belt and then to pretty much everywhere else... some notable exceptions like boeing only started pulling up the tent stakes recently...

Which is itself being overrun now, so who knows.

I haven't followed the bum migration patterns for a while...last I checked they were all in LA camped in the beach parks... but that was a decade or so ago.

Most of the young professionals I knew in sacremento moved to texas..
