Man, no wonder he loves getting me riled up. I can put out levels of angry that could be used to power North Korea more efficiently than it's currently powered.
I think a pack of AA batteries could do the same.

For what it's worth, I used to love fajitas. You know, those things you get in like, Chiles or whatever. Sizzling hot platter, some steak, mmmm.

Then I went to a Mexican market with the lady down in Texas and she introduced me to real fajita meat. Grilled it up and had it with home made guac and stuff. Changed my world. After that, the only thing that comes close is going to a Taquería. Stupid Northeast coast.

Wait...I'm confused. LOL! That's a regular menu item at actual Mexican restaurants here, not Tex-Mex.

EDIT: Hold on. I need to look up what it is in CA.

DOUBLE EDIT: It's literally "mortar and pestle"?

Nope, but I learned something today.

Here, it's a main course of soup with stew chunks, shrimp, onions, bellpeppers, some type of leek, etc. with a side of fresh tortillas. It's listed only as molcajete on the menus.

I'm really taken aback that I just now learned this, but I don't think I've ordered it in front of my one, real-deal, first generation Mexican-American friend.

It was Diggy-Diego who held my hand through this revelation on FFXIAH, of all damn places!

I can see why the name of the soup tho, and maybe not heard of it due to a region kinda meal. kinda familiar with west and south mexico regional foods, but not with the eastern side.(maybe that's why?)
while I have seen people serve food in them, it is quite impractical to actually use a molcajete due to weight lol

Volk, you're on. Tell them about "molcajete" on real Mexican restaurants in Texas.

EDIT: That's kind of what I was thinking, Misa. Different regions, different meals. They are heavy too, and will give you quite the burn if you're not careful.

My neighbor is mexican.

I was wondering the area drinking bourbon, as I tend to do, & I started talking to his wife about their puppy. He came out, & asked if I wanted a beer. I said I'm OK, I have whiskey, then smiled. he left, came back in a minute or two, & handed me a beer. I don't think he speaks all that much english, but I like his style.

our mexican restaurants have the same thing. found how it's listed on one of the menus. they serve it in a giant version of one of those stone things that's about 8 inches high. it's not really a soup, but it there is a lot of liquid.

MOLCAJETE SPECIAL - $14.99
Grilled Chicken or Steak, sauteed with onions, tomatoes and your choice of jalapeno, poblano or bell pepper, topped with ranchero, chipotle or tomatillo sauce, garnished with cambray onions, cactus leaf and slice of chihuahua cheese, served with whole beans and tortillas.

I think Misa is right about the regional thing, seeing as though you're in TN and can get it. It makes me wonder what goodies are stashed away in CA/AZ that make their way up to WA and OR.
