I'd say its top 5 in terms of soundtracks in the main series, behind VI, VIIs, IXs, and XIs (in no particular order). I may be a bit judgemental though, considering I've never played through XII completely. FFIV and FFVs and Xs are up in that conversation as well.

The music in 13 tried to mix the classic with new age rock / heavy metal / rap.
I do not consider FF13's music to be anywhere close to the top 5 in the series. I see it more as an insult of what made Final Fantasy games so great to begin with. The whole 13 series is really a slap in the face of what made Final Fantasy so unique. It's sad to see Final Fantasy lose its identity with this company merger / buyout. It really had something special that no one else was doing and now never will again.

True point, maybe it is a bit higher in my mind that it actually is. Maybe it's also just me as well

I didn't really like Lightning. She always came off as a *** though I remember finding a redeeming factor in her but I can't remember what it was. Besides Vanille, Lionel Ritch- I mean Sazh was my fave. Fang was cool but her battle quotes irked me. "'Preciate it!" It sucked that Fang was 'the strongest' in terms of damage capability, and the fact that she was tied into Bahamut as well :/

I love that Fang is currently the most powerful character (as far as in-game damage output is concerned) in the series.
