Some people play video games to escape reality the same way people do drugs and/or drink alcohol.
Not sure if you were supporting this mind set or just making a general statement.
But be it video games, drugs, alcohol, or food it's not a good thing, it's not a mentally healthy way of being. Everyone needs a break now and then. But a constant and deliberate avoidance of human contact to indulge in said escape is a sign of addiction.
Not saying people who don't wanna voice chat are all addicts haha. But an avoidance of it due to insecurity would be a sign of concern.
Personally only used vent a handful of times... but when I have used it... we would crack jokes and talk about tv shows that we liked, and so on.... Was a blast.. lots of laughter and joking around makes it more fun, especially some stuff wouldnt come accross as funny if you were typing it into ls chat

In spite of my CS days, I love Ventrilo. It makes both casual chat and tactical communication flow so much better. Especially when it's with friends you don't get to see often due to distance, it makes playing together online a little more like hanging out together.

Your point is moot since you can't use voice chat on a PS2. Voice chat can be useful but it only fuels more drama and always separates the LS into two groups. Those who have it and those who don't.

Typing is just a shittier form of talking. Ventrilo all the way, but *** ***that doesn't have a press to talk button, I don't want to hear you breath. If you're a playing an MMO for something other than playing a game with many other people, than play a single player game, be warned you might have to talk to NPCs.
i love vent.. except when its the whole "LS" only one that basically is a bunch of jack *** Q.Qing and bitching about other people. Its fun when yor with decent people, but i tend to stick with skype since i can invite whomever i wishvs ls people only

I really always feel embarrassad about people that engage in online flirting. There are a couple of reasons for that, mainly because whatever you consider flirting I've seen done by a thousand others. And whatever girl you're flirting with you're the thousandth person to have flirted with them.

Can't judge a person by the way they type, or how they feel when they type something, actually getting to hear the person, puts a better understanding and meaning behind the voice! ( i.e IF I knew or heard Flion...he prolly wouldn't be such a creep..but I won't know, nor do I want to!)

Vent falls in the same category as just about anything else in FFXI. It's nice if someone doesn't try to force you to. I used to like using vent to chat with friends and sometimes for Namis because we didn't really talk about the game much. Unless it was like "HOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHIT LINK ET FIRST SLEEP!" then we laughed about the 20 mobs we just wiped out, and went back to talking about music or something to kill time.
When you're doing a mission I just verbally broke down piece by piece in text, stating I know exactly what I'm doing, and you still *demand* I get on vent for "strategy" purposes? Get the *** out my house. If I don't want to talk, I don't want to talk. >_>
well i used xbox live with some freinds when we did nyzul and helped each other with nm quest i use vent for ls events too i think its alot easier when u do ***and u get to have a right laugh istead of the it wasent funny but i will lol anyways but one disadvantage bout vent is when ppl get all pissy and like throw their toys out the pram and its like some ppl take ahit too serious on the game
