I just recently upgraded graphic card to ati 5870 for FF14 alpha test manly but when playing FFXI it got low FPS like in whitegate and some other...

I tried many versions of drivers and some of drivers not working with my card ;;

If anyone know a way to fix please this because it's so annoying to get low FPS.

is the card eating up your processor? if you're reaching max output, you're going to lag.

Also, are shadows turned off? I find that they can be a *** in areas with many people, regardless of your specs.

Only things I can think of at the moment.

The game just runs like ***. No matter how much computer power you throw at it, you will still get crappy lag in dynamis and WG AH etc.

Its the game stuggling with all the stuff happening, not your hardware.

Hmm, I don't have that problem. i did on my old laptop, but not since I got this new one about half a year ago. I can even run fraps w/o a prob while running a dynamis

Relatively I mean.

You can run at capped FPS and zero lag with 5 people on screen using very little of your computers power, but go into dynamis and you suddenly you your lag doubles (but still managable) but your computer isn't working much harder.

The game seems to have issue allocating resources once you have 'more than enough'.

I learned recently that it is likely more of an issue with network latency.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOBSfeEx9Nw

This guy explains how to stop that stuttering by disabling QoS.

You will want to disable it on your network adapter.
That's the least you should do to improve your performance.

Your routers firmware may or may not have an option for it.

If it does then you can do one of several things.
First you can specify which port on your router gets no bandwidth restrictions. Secondly you can specify an application and specific ports which will have no restrictions. Or you can specify packets from which networks receive top priority. Lastly, if you know your up link/down link speed you can allocate up to 85% to a particular PC on your home network.

You probably want to install Catalyst Control Center and set the settings slider to optimal performance.

I found that alot of ppl forget that this game runs at dial-up speed, so its a limitation which really sucks.

Wow sorry to hear that. Catalyst Control Center would be my next avenue and setting it to the preset for optimal performance. It'll usually choose the right settings for the driver your card is using.

This is a problem with ATi's drivers. I had the same thing when I upgraded to a 4890, 5-15FPS everywhere regardless of what was happening.

The only solution is to downgrade your drivers, the latest ones that I've found to work are the Catalyst 9.4 drivers.

update to vista or 7. you're really not benefiting the full features and power of the 5870 using that outdated system.

Try disabling your sound actually. A GM told me to do this once, and it worked. Do it from start menu->programs->playonline->FFXI config, and disable the audio. Worked like a charm for me.

Never update to Vista.

I used it for about a year, and had so many problems, many more problems than running newer hardware on an outdated OS would cause.

XP to 7 always.

There probably isn't much you can do, FFXI just has an archaic graphics engine.

On my desktop I can run games like Crysis at max settings without a problem, but if there's more than 4-5 people on the screen at once in XI the FPS drops.
