Morning guys!
I return after 2 days of modem break down :(
Yesterday, I went out to have dinner with my mother and her friends as a part of their customary Wednesday gathering. I'm like, the 17yr old amongst these older women... And my mother's friend was talking about how she is having trouble hiring a physiotherapist at her clinic... She was saying how her patients prefer women to men therapists as more of her patients are women - which I think is perfectly all right.
However, she mentioned one female therapist, nicknamed JoZai, the Zai which means boy or kid in Cantonese, and is supposed to be a tomboy with a short haircut. Another of my mother's friend said that it is rumored that she is a lesbian... From then on in their conversation, the two friends of my mom (four of us together) refered to the girl as "The Lesbian" and rejected her as a potential candidate for the job... I was extremely hurt by how they made such a big deal out of ooooh lesbian yeah we can't hire her (i'm not sure if it's entirely due to the fact that she behaves boyishly). I was really upset for the rest of the evening despite the fact that my mother stood up for this girl and said that she should be given the benefit of the doubt... I nearly outed myself to my mother when I thanked her afterwards for sticking up for this girl because I was actually tearful when I explained why I am so upset that evening due to their prejudice and use of vocabulary.
