Just to clarify some of the questions about the Chardon funeral protest, the victim wasn't gay as far as I am aware. The only reason Westboro Baptist Church threatened to picket his funeral is because it's pretty high-profile news.
WBC shows up to the funerals of all sorts of people because, like Frobos said, they claim that tragedies such as the Chardon High School shooting are God's way of punishing Americans for "tolerating the gays."
Whether or not they actually believe the disgusting things they say, they make enough money to support their organization by provoking mourners into attacking them--instant lawsuit. Although it's pretty fair to say they're horrible human beings, it would be a mistake to call them stupid: a large number of WBC members are lawyers who ensure that the group never does anything illegal. County governments cannot deny them demonstration permits and police officers have no choice but to protect them; they are very talented professional trolls.
Over a thousand people (including a biker gang like you mentioned, Shay^^) showed up at the church this morning to join the human barricade against Westboro Baptist Church. My brother, his friend, and I got there at 7am and it was
freezing !! I was amazed that so many people willingly subjected themselves to so many hours of heavy wind and bone-chilling temperature. :o People from the town brought water, donuts, coffee, and all sorts of stuff to support the barricade--the solidarity was really touching. :) Everything was put in terms of supporting the victim's family rather than opposing the WBC protesters, who received minimal publicity from the local media.

↑ A section of the barricade. We're in the far left. :D
The most fortunate thing was that the picketers never left the town square. They did not approach the barricade, which allowed the funeral to proceed undisturbed. Apparently sometimes they just take pictures and photoshop themselves into the scene. o__O
