Set the Background resolution (Or whatever it's called in the FFXI ToolsUS) to 1024x1024.

You can enhance it further, but you have to change the values in the registry.

Yeah. But setting it to 1024x1024 will fix the problem he's having.

Actually it won't, 1024x1024 still looks like crap, you need to set it to 2048x2048 in the registry to make it look good.

With FF/POL closed open your start menu, then go to Playonline and open FFXI Config. Maximise your settings. Should do the trick :)

Side note: On an 8600 I'm wondering what your FPS was like with your graphics jacked up so high on XP. On 7 I'm going to imagine you having a lot of FPS issues lol.

Protip: If you use windower, you can easily change your background res from the launcher, without using regedit.

I'm using an Nvidia Geforce X200 series (I know, it's hawt), and I still get 30 frames per second with near-maxed settings most of the time. And 30 is the rough cap because of PS2 limitations.

How do you edit the Registry for that? I had regedit open but I couldn't figure it out.

Pretty nice amount of details here, also shows some comparisons if wary about all this.

Just use FFcalc if you're not PC literate, there's a resolution function on it, just put everything to max and hit apply.

Follow that wiki link and make your changes via http://www.ffxicalculator.com/ and you'll hopefully be good to go. It's a very handy app in general, but has some great features in the "FFXI Settings" tab to change your registry settings without having to do so manually.

Thank you very much for this, I'll have to check this out when I get home later.

Excellent thank you very much! This is the one I followed before! My FPS on XP were between 10-25 depending on what zone I was in.

Thanks for all your help guys!
