Lemmings was almost all about figuring out how to complete the stage. The rest was easy. But some stage were hard as hell yeah :[ (well and off course it was all about blowing all your lemmings up because you couldn't figure how to complete a stage).
Unlike most of shmup you need first to figure out how to kill a boss (or to memorize enemy appearance pattern) and -then- need to have enough "skill" to put the theory into practice, and that's *** hard.
Oh yeah for the most part only the extra sunsoft special lvls really were about button mashing/timing skills. Oddly enough they were som of the easier to figure out ones lol. But some of the lvls were wow. Well and then there was tearing yourself away from watching them get hung or something lol
I finally remember what game this has made me want to play like crazy--Skygunner! I don't even care that I'm really terrible at getting lots of points, that game is good times.
Imo the generation of gamers brought up on hardcore classics like Lemmings, Micro machines, Tower Assault, Asteroids, Street Fighter, Tempest, Pinball but to name a few are always going to be naturally better at gaming.
EDIT: It's a shame nowadays 9/10 games that are released are made to be easy enough to be enjoyed by the maximum range of ages and skills possible to generate more profit, rather than designed to be a proper challenge to skilled gamers.

Is Card Sagas Wars available to play yet, Semi? I can't tell from their site, but I didn't see anything like download links. I've never heard of it but holy wow it looks awesome. lol
I don't think it's out yet :(
This was a huge project a long time ago, but at least we're seeing a lot of progress so far.
They did mention releasing a beta soon, so I might report back once it's released.
