Heys ^^/
I desided to see how the game felt with a controller vs mouse/keyboard, So far, I gotta say its pretty awesomesause. One issue though that has left me spending about six-seven hours reading past threads, etc.
As most of you know whom use the controller yourselfs you need to gain a different driver since your PC thinks the LT/RT buttons are for the Z axis or whatever have you.
Most forums and threads say XBCD and XBCD made by Redcl0ud is the best way to go, but alas, it dosnt seem to be something that works anymore, or at least is difficult to obtain.
Now after such a long search i'm kinda fusterated with the thing but i really would like to enjoy this controller, I have no issues besides right now my macros are the LB/RB button and it feels kinda akward, something I couldn't get use to, anyone want to hold my hand through these last few issues. {Reward} {My First Born}

What OS are you using, Darkovercast? As far as I know XBCD still works, it just takes some specific tinkering depending on what you're using. Windows 7 in particular seems to have quite a few steps. lol

This controller is advertised for the PS3 only, but it works even better on the PC. No driver installation required on any windows OS and all the buttons work as you'd expect (unlike the 360). Just plug it in, and it's good to go.

First off, XBCD doesn't work on certain versions of Windows. If you've got Vista or 7, it won't work, and it's incompatible with certain versions of XP.
I found the installer here, at the bottom of the first post. The second download link still seems to be working. If you've got XP and that doesn't work for you, I have a couple of installers I used that worked for me that I can give you. Not sure exactly what version of XP I've got, though.

I wouldn't say it works out of the box on Vista or 7, but I have seen some success stories, though as mentioned it seems to take quite a few steps to get it working.
Xpadder might be a good alternative if it works, never heard of it.

I used that controller for quite a long time before I quit and I was also using Windows 7 at the time. It'll work just fine. Like I said, plug it in and let Windows automatically install the controller which takes only a couple seconds and you're good to go. The controller setup for FFXI will detect every button, including the triggers, just fine. No fuss at all. The only gripe I had with the controller is that it uses batteries, but they do last quite a long time, so it wasn't too big of a deal.

Anyone found a driver for the XBox 360 Wireless Controller yet? I have been stuck playing with a wired controller for a little over a year now. I bought the wireless adapter for the controller a long time ago and would like to put it to work finally. I am running Vista so I had no problem with the XBCD driver and setup. I set all my controls to mirror FFXI on the 360. I can help anyone through the setup of XBCD if you want its quite simple to install/setup. I just hate this damn cord tangling up in everything when I play lol. Also anyone know much about bluetooth headsets and Ventrilo?

First off download the proper driver for your OS from this link XBCD 360
Then follow the steps from this link Setup Guide to properly replace the existing driver. (note the guide on the link shows XP OS, other OS's are not shown but you can follow the guide in the same manner)
Lastly find on your computer where you installed Play Online and open the files in this order PlayOnline>SquareEnix>FINAL FANTASY XI>ToolsUS>FFXiPadConfig Then just change the controls to your liking. Test them out and save once your satisfied. And that's it! Hope this helps.

I used the controller for a few years on PC and never used LT/RT. The ffxi config didn't support them, so I just moved the Macro menus to LB/RB and adjusted a few other things, leaving most of the rest the same as when I had played on 360.
I actually liked having my macros better on LB/RB to be honest.

XBCD links, working!
I checked the download link and it worked fine, so hopefully that's all you need. If it still doesn't work, post back and we can try to figure it out? Hopefully the thread the links are located in has some tips.
Sorry about that! I swear I thought I posted them, but I guess not. lol

I have what your looking for and it does work with vista. I'll upload it somewhere and give you link later today. You'll have to uninstall any Microsoft controller drivers you've already installed or you'll get a bad install.

Look up JoytoKey, that's what i use, you can map any combination of keys you want to any button on your controller.

Ok here it is http://rapidshare.com/files/319129106/XBCDSetupv0400.zip.html
1. Uninstall any Microsoft drivers you have installed.
2. Unzip and install
3. Run the Setup utility in the Programs menu.
4. Open FFXI config options, go to gamepad and set up your buttons.
left trigger is button 11 and right trigger is button 12
Enjoy!

Didn't read all of the posts as a disclaimer so sorry if I repeat stuff.
I use XPadder with my wireless 360 control. In a nutshell you assign keyboard buttons to each button on your controller. Since the only ones that don't work on the controller already all you have to do is assign the triggers to keyboard buttons. I did CTRL and ALT respectively for macro pallets since I started playing this on ps2 and got used to the control.
The only downside with this is you have to hold down the trigger to keep up the macro pallet and there is also a little bit of a delay when you press it.
