Idk why the dogpile, its not unheard of for people to use sock accounts. Not saying this person is him, but I think people here don't remember the depths this guy can go. He is seriously the arch-villain of FFXI, despite his many contributions (which were appreciated, a shame tho what he became) he is seriously capable of anything. Be careful of every and any sock account!

That said, Radial is not mentally ill, hes def one of the more level headed posters who typically has good opinions.
right people use sock accounts all the time. for example..

who is radial?

idk someone said they played with him so I guess they know. It is pretty smart to use a sock account, especially in this day and age because some people are just crazy. I def see the appeal to it and before I stopped caring I was pretty good at discerning who was who, the amount of times I found out d44kpunks on a new account or Fonewear.

Really though, sometimes you can't even have a discussion without someone dragging something up from the past to try and invalidate what you do or say.

The other day I saw a jp twitter post that paired up the augments and it seems to make sense.

I've read a few, hyperbolic as usual, comments about the grip.
Anybody wants to further elaborate with some data? Realistic data, not abstract one.

To me Grip looks pretty nice in general because of the additional stats and, last but not least, for being all jobs.
The "base" stats are pretty much similar to Utu, but Telopanos has even more HP and additional Haste and DT which are nice I guess.
The main difference of course is DEX 10% on WS vs 9% PDL, and this is where the core of the dps comparison stands.

There is a point past which you simply get too much PDL for you to realistically receive a gain from.
Especially if you have Prime AM and Aria up.

Did anybody do some calculations for funz?
Of course it's gonna greatly differ from job to job, from situation to situation and so on.
Considering the amount of grind required it has to be a pretty noticeable and reliable increase for me to justify all that work and prioritize it over other things one may want to get from Limbus augs.
...of course it's a different story if you literally have nothing else to farm/grind, I suppose.

Don't have the answers to your questions, but i want to point out the augments in the grip are dogshit so just buying a base grip and not augmenting it at all already gets you 99% of the way there. Actually grinding the augs is a whole 'nother ball of wax and, IMO, nobody should waste their time or matters doing it until they have ABSOLUTELY every other piece of armor they want from limbus augmented first.

Grip is for sure an upgrade over Utu for dps. Consider that all dd jobs also have a piece of empy+3 with PDL+10 on it.

In majority of cases, switching from Nyame to that empy piece for the PDL+10 is a dmg increase over the WSD+8-12 that nyame has.

The bigger question is whether stacking grip pdl, aria, sroda ring plus empy+3 and potentially prime AM is going to be "too much" pdl, and whether grip+aria+sroda+nyame will do better in most cases instead.

The grip on its own though - your only other option is Utu. I very much doubt the dex alone is enough to overcome pdl+9 unless you are well under attack cap.

Not going to sim anything, will just try it when it's possible to get it.

Edit:

Nyame set: WSD+53 @R25, back+10
PDL: Aria+20, sroda +3, ephramad+10, empy+10, grip+9, prime AM +12

Grip+aria+prime AM+sroda ring+ephramad+empy+3: PDL+64, WSD+~52
Grip+aria+prime AM+sroda ring+ephramad+nyame: PDL+54, WSD+63

By the 1:1 ratio of "if attack capped and pdl<wsd, adding PDL will do more dmg than adding WSD", at attack cap (pdl included), PDL+64, WSD+52 will do more dmg.

Under or close to attack cap, PDL+54, WSD+63 will do more dmg.

TL;DR - The new grip makes it possible to have a higher total PDL than WSD. Nothing changes wrt how much dmg you can do - it depends on your attack vs mob defense. It changes what options you have wrt other gear choices like empy+3 for the pdl, ephramad vs cornelia, pdl+ grip vs attack+ grip and so forth.

I'm quite certain without actually testing it that epa ring will out-dmg sroda ring once your total PDL is close to your WSD.

Also - once your PDL is about the same as your WSD, the attack+30 on the grip's augments starts mattering a lot more.. (FU limbus augments)

On the grip if you have the sttack to utilize the pdl it is significantly stronger than utu, 10% dex is ok like we have a ton of stat vomit but very few 2hand ws use dex so its not like you are stacking dex for it with many ws. Also stat mods are inherently less impactful for 2 hand weapons than 1 hand as the mod gets added to your base damage and fstr which are both larger for 2 hand weapons.

If short on attack I'd swap most other pdl slots before the grip. If you are really short on attack rigorous grip can enter the conversation especially for str ws as it has a ton of attack.

Completely forgot to consider this perspective and you're absolutely right.
Yeah, it's a big difference for sure.

Exactly what I was pondering on.
I mean hard to give a definitive answer because being that PDL works the way it does, the result is "it depends".
On the job, the context, the buffs.
But it's something we have to start to consider given the final amount of PDL gear that's become available to players.

There undoubtely is a point where you can get too much PDL for you to realistically benefit from it, but it's almost unreasonable to easily find "where", sigh.

Another thing to consider is that in most slots you can easily create dynamic sets and or/toggles to handle slight variations of your WS sets depending on several factors, wether they're automatized or manually handled.
With a Grip you can't... or rather you absolutely can but it has a cost (TP reset), which is probably less relevant these days than it was many years ago, but it's still a "cost" that you don't have for most other armor/accessories slot.

Not that hard really. Just add up total PDL+ vs total WSD+.

If PDL<WSD and you're attack capped, add PDL. Otherwise add WSD.

The two terms are both multipliers, so your aim is to keep them at a 1:1 ratio to get the most out of them (at attack cap).

If not attack capped, just add WSD.

Knowing when you are at attack cap is the hardest bit. Only way to know is to add more attack+ and see if dmg increases or not.

I would think the 12% PDL on prime greatsword would still out perform as long as you maintain AM3.

Lionheart is top resolution GS for Rune, but I assume you meant for warrior.

R30 Agwu's Claymore used to be the top one for non-RUN, but 10 PDL and 3 base damage should beat 15 str and 5 attack, when attack is capped. 5 Double Attack is pretty irrelevant now with Hoxne as well or a job like WAR that has tons of double attack natively with sakpata. But I wouldn't bother augmenting that GS for resolution at all, when Agwu's is insanely easier with simple Ongo solo RP. And if you have Helheim, that's going to be better than both, so I wouldn't bother with Agwu's either. (And if you have Helheim, why bother with resolution at all).

These days, if someone is using Resolution at all, its generally for its skillchain properties, and, oddly enough, Helheim actually adds more reasons to use Reso
Is it a fight where you don't want to SC at all, like Bumba? Reso has the exact same SC properties as Savage Blade, so it fills that niche
Is it a fight where the WS wall matters? Mix Reso in with Fimbulvetr (And Torcleaver, if on Drk)
Doing cheese SC shenanigans? Fimb => Reso => Fimb => Reso => repeat is an infinite Detonation <=> Scission SC loop

Does Reso replaec Fimb? Absolutely not, but it actually has more utility with Helheim

PUP new pet confirmed

That’s actually my fault. There was a typo since it was introduced in 2013 bothering me with two periods after Lv. (Lv..) so I submitted a bug report which was accepted in May and instead they did that. The Item IDs for Bug-Ridden Broth and Divinator are just next to one another (21451, 21452) so they copy/pasted into the wrong line and went live with it.

Previous time I submitted one was for the Adoulin Worn Sack of […] text printing over the new Alt Icon for a year after it was introduced, which they did fix earlier this spring by hyphenating them. So I figured maybe they’d look at this smaller stuff too.

If I’m feeling motivated, I’ll submit the Linkshell Concierge missing a line break < br > element and popping out of the text box or maybe they’ll make it worse somehow? lol

This is so funny. I love the disparity of how much love/hate the players put into the game to how little effort seemingly goes into its maintenance.
