As is tradition, I am making a thread for FFVII trailers and discussion leading up to the release. The first trailer just dropped at Summer Games Fest, so here it is (finally)!

So exciting, I am sure it will be fun just like rebirth was. All the additions seem great, altho I don't care for the outfit changes for jobs. I hope we can keep the original looks or change the outfits somehow without job changing. I kind of wish we could summon whenever we want like the original, but I am sure they have tons of fun stuff in store. The jumping from the airship to the ground is such a cool feature. So many people hated on it and said it wouldnt be open world like the original. While I'm sure there are limitations it will be nice.

Motivation to finish Rebirth now, I don't have strong feelings either way about the changes from OG FF7 but do want to see the new ones to conclusion.

Oh except no *** Chadley. Seriously, *** that kid.

Oh so you still have it to play through it twice. Once on normal and then it completely changes on hard mode. Like you have to play different or you dead.

Vincent and Cid look great, looking forward to using them in battle. I'm sure we will be able to customize all of their costumes.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the FFVII Remake trilogy, is officially scheduled to launch simultaneously on PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027.

That's what I am talking about SE - Release it all at once... This has to be the nicest thing I said about SE this year...

I'm not one to get excited for new games coming out as usually my cynicism and skepticism is in charge of my emotions. But not this time, I cannot *** wait for this. Easily the most giddy I've felt in years, if not my entire life. I had even planned on doing another Rebirth playthrough before part 3 comes out, and implementing my own job system, and now we see they're adding a job system to part 3! I'm betting this is how they replace the auto-weapon skill and auto-unique materia, by adjusting the logic of the character based on their job.

So glad I built my current PC essentially at the 11th hour before data centres spiked the price of all computer parts.

Hot take but I played on easy because I don't really like the combat system nor the world intel stuff. Just story nostalgia for me really.

You and me both. I liked the world and didn't hate the story changes, but the combat just got bleh after a while for me.

so.. not for ps4?

When the remake was first announced that it would be broken up into three 'different games', i thought that was pretty stupid. But that aside.. if the third installation is not to be released for ps4 then essentially we now have a single game that cant be finished on its original system release.
I think back to when i was first playing ff7 on ps1 as a kid. And imagine how id feel if i finished disk 2 and the game said 'please insert disk 3' ... /inserts disk 3 ... 'Please upgrade your ps1 to ps2 to continue playing this game.' ...

1-false equivalence since FF7 on ps1 was released as an entirely complete game all at once
2-FFXIV dropped PS3 support around Stormblood release, so the PS3 players were locked out of proceeding further in XIV unless they got a PC or a PS4.

This is the problem of releasing a trilogy that takes 7 years to complete. Your average console lifespan seems to be ~5-6 years. Lifespan may not be the proper word, because my PS4 (and PS3, and WiiU) are still working, but theres a point where AAA devs stop making games for the outdated hardware. FF7:Remake released in March 2020, the PS4 was released in Nov 2013. The PS5 had already been announced and released 9 months later in Nov 2020. The writing was on the wall.

Actually ignore all that above, I dont want to delete what I already wrote and looked up. This is the good ***:
You seem very upset that you wont be able to finish the third installment of FF7 remake trilogy on your PS4. How did you play FF7:Rebirth on your PS4????

Dude...

kinda proving the point...
The first part is listed as being released in april 2020. Thats before ps5 release. Which means ps4 release. Then later parts being released on ps5.. which is pretty much what i said.

Im not complaining about it. I just find it quite bizarre. I grew up in NES days. Iv never seen a single game be broken up into pieces and then released on multiple systems to the point where the original system it was released on can not actually play the whole game. - Thats a new one to me, and i find that bazaar. Im not saying i dont understand it... just thats its weird to see.

As i said above, not upset. Just find it weird how it is now.

As for how i played rebirth, that ones easy. I didnt'
While ff7 may have been my very first rpg as a little kid back in the day, i have not played the remake yet. Ill get to it eventually.
One of the joys of disability is constantly being broke. I honestly havnt gotten a new system since ps2 was first released. Which i wanted to play the then recently released ffx. - Iv played that until a couple of months ago, actually.

Tho i do have a xbox 360 a friend gave me a decade or two ago. I forget percisly when. I played a few things on that. He ended up somehow having an extra or two and gave me one.

But it wasnt until a few months ago that the same friend have me his ps4. He got a ps5 and gave me the ps4. It was one of the weirdest moments tho... i traveled back home for his mother's funeral. Which is at least a 4h drive out of state. Showing up for his mothers funeral and he gives me a present... i dont really have words for how strange that moment feels...

So yea, jsut recently 'upgraded' from my ps2 to a ps4. But i havnt gotten to the 7 remake yet. I had 15 on hand already, which i hadnt played at the time, so i started with that. Then i went backwards lol. Got the dl for star ocean the first departure. The only thing to come close to the hours as a kid that i put into ff7 was SO2. So i was curious to see the original Star ocean since its original release was in japan only. Then i got a copy of ff pixel remaster which is ff1-6 for ps4. SO been going through that. On 5 now. I just recently got some more to add to the upcoming list. When you play decade old stuff, it becomes much cheaper lol. Got 10/10-2 remaster, 12 zodica age (both of which i only have/played the original versions of), world of final fantasy.. still not sure what that one is rly.. ff8 remaster, and Ace combat 7. They may have been cheaper now, but its still probably the biggest game binge iv made.. should keep me busy for a few years lol.

But i digress...

Havnt gotten to 7 remake yet. I most certainly want to, but it will be a little while. And since two of the three parts are on ps5... probably a long while'

I literally cited XIV dropping PS3 support on Stormblood release lol

Also its very different times from the NES era. A NES game could be written and released in a few months.

JP release of Legend of Zelda:
February 21, 1986

JP release of Adventure of Link:
January 14, 1987

Less than a year to *** sales of the first game, come up with a new story, write everything up, code it up, ship and release.

Lets compare that timeline between Rebirth and Revelation. They have most assets done, reused from Remake and Rebirth. The story is already 85% complete, it’s expected there will be small changes from the original story like Remake and Rebirth as well as new side games. They already have the engine knowledge down, again thanks to Remake and Rebirth. Despite that, it still takes three years to put Revelation together (maybe a bit less if they gave the devs some time off after Rebirth release).

very very different times indeed.

Its amazing how different those two zeldas were tho. I loved the first zelda (and link to the past the most of all). But I just could not get into Adventure of link..

Tho it is interesting how they seem to take forever to make a game now, but over all square/enix put out a lot of FF's over the years. I dont know every game series under the sun, but none of the other ones i play or know of put out as many. So they do seem to hit both sides of that coin.

Don't wanna be rude by saying this, but anyone paying attention when the first iteration came out should've known it wasn't going to exist on PS4 in entirety. It was pretty obvious by the timing and I'm fairly certain they even said it as well. It's the reason I waited to play it until the PS5 came out, I didn't want to buy a PS4 just to replace it with a PS5 and finish the series.

It shouldn't be a surprise that the final installment being released 7 (hur hur, I see what you did there SE) years later won't support a prior gen console.

I also don't fault SE for taking a phased approach. The scale/technology in the game is far ahead of the original release. When you consider level of effort, it involves a lot more people/resources. I feel like if they did the whole thing in one sitting, you'd end up skipping major parts of the game just to meet deadlines. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't. At least this approach gives them more runway to do things, although I think they could've trimmed down the semi-mandatory side quests

I still believe this is what happened in XV. I think it took a long time to get to ch 7 or 8. I cant remember the exact point, it was around when you meet shiva, you lose your squad and you get that OHKO ring. Somewhere around there the game changed completely, the entire vibe changed. It just felt like "oh ***were way behind on this, we need to cut things".

And yet you didnt refute that anything I said about the pacing and gameplay after ch7/8 (actually ch.13 now that I looked it up, I did correctly state the associated events when it happened) was incorrect.

It's getting a Switch 2 release, so apparently it can run on old tech.
