I’d like to share my own story about FFXI. I’ve been part of many Linkshells and still play occasionally, but is the adventurer of Vana’diel still there? I log in now and then, but is it time to leave the memories behind and move on? I’m not sure. The current game somehow doesn’t have the same charm, using the same platforms again. Is it time for a new FFXI? Just my thoughts, sorry if anyone might get upset.

I think SE has always committed to delivery and "finishing" content in 9-12 months.

I think what has changed since 2014 (SoA) is that SE now releases content with some headroom. It gives SE the chance to return to refresh content and direct players to it: like Delve 2, Domain Invasion revisions, Divergence RP, etc etc. In these situations, SE returned to these areas with updates in 1.5-2 years.

Sortie is on year 3, and needs something fresh.

So, I do agree with your point. Things feel stale. (We have had prime weapons for 3 years but no content to really use them on)

What you don't think Master Trials are content to use them on?

I've played this game since late 2004, with a 3 year break after abyssea and came back around 2014 and small breaks here and there.

While the game has changed significantly since the 75 days, I still enjoy my time. I was in highend HNMLS back in the day and cleared most that could be beaten in that era but never got a ton of REM weapons aside from the G-horn cause i was the main BRD.

These days, with all that stuff so easily accessible (aside from the farming or gil wall), I work off items on my bucketlist that I never got the chance to do in the era.

On my server, we are still somewhat social but game will never be like it was in 2004-2009. That is in the past.

I wouldn't go to a PS, probably ever cause I don't miss the game and mechanics from that era, Its the memories of everything, experience stuff the first time with other people. We don't get to re-experience things like that a second time.

I don't mind the current state of the game cause I'm busy as is with my mentioned bucketlist and helping new/returning players. But like the next person, I naively hope for brand new content or new stuff in general. It's nice to see they make new QOL and revamps and I hope they keep working on stuff like that.

As for finding a new FFXI, I assume you mean a game that would give you the same feeling as this game has? I have yet to find a true replacement game for 11 and I looked for over a decade.

14 was fine for a bit but after 1-2 expansions, you notice a pattern, the game is the same since Heavensward more or less. Story was mid to good until they finished the ARR saga, current story is really meh. Gameplay is boring, its more of a Sims and RP sim these days.

WoW? It was fine a decade ago but I haven't kept up.

They severely f**ked up making Odyssey and Sortie limited to 6 party members. Limbus attempts to correct for this but is almost entirely pointless. The social aspect to this game is nearly dead and SE killed it. They killed linkshells with 6-man stuff and they killed PUG with the difficulty.

Good luck finding 5 random strangers with the exact same daily schedule and social requirements as you.

Why are we still paying a price for entry and loss? In modern MMO's you just go in as many times as you want. The game is FUN, not a CHORE. They could significantly improve the game just by removing the barriers to entry and the cost of failure.

It hasn't been that long since actual primes(stage5) were introduced. They were added in May 2023 with the first stage 5s appearing in i think it was November that year.

Hell no! If you didn't learn that lesson after XI I'm afraid you never will.

If you're asking the question the answer is probably yes (unfortunately).

Some people enjoy the social aspect, some people enjoy the game, some its a bit of both.

If its the game, I think it is largely dead, I mean there's a lot to do, much of it can be challenging and requires help from others, but chances are if you've been playing for a significant amount of time, you've done most of it. That said set a goal and go for it (make a crafting shield, prime weapon, get titles from master trials or w/e content.) May just trying to "solo" certain content you've cleared with a group (whether this includes trusts or not is entirely upto you).

If its the social aspect and all your friends have quit, you'll need to make new ones.

Finding a duo partner can be invaluable, and its great in that you can move from one event to the next quickly and just having someone to chat and joke with makes it all fun. Just a warning if they are not on it can be frustrating.

Similarly if you can find a small group it can help as well, don't be afraid to lead some newer players it can be rewarding. Also don't think that you need to do things daily, if you find a few folks you like and they're only available 1 or 2 days a week schedule stuff then (maybe don't even log in yourself the other days)

Joining a LS with planned events is probably the most efficient way to get rewards, although it can feel a bit robotic at times to me (i.e. almost like a job).

Maybe if you've run events and that's burning you out try and do something you can just follow along with (or if you've never lead events, doing so can be a new challenge).

But if you log in and are trying to do things that are time gated and you're not having much fun and not socializing, yeah its time to quit. That happened to me (largely because most of the folks I've played with over the years also quit) so I quit, I eventually came back, I've met a few people I like doing things with and the game feels fun now, sometimes just a break is needed anyways.

There are many ways to enjoy the game, if what you're doing isn't working and any new way to look at (as I tried to make suggestions above - but I'm sure someone can think of others) doesn't seem appealing there's only once choice left...

I felt this way a few years ago, so I took a year out, and it was the best thing I could have done.
Go play other games. Enjoy life. FFXI will be here when you decide to return.

Primes should have never existed. Sortie was a self-inflicted gunshot wound; they survived with the bullet still lodged in the brain, which is now causing multiple issues with their motor functions. This was the worst thing they did to FFXI and I hope the worst for SE as a company going forward.

Where's the pictures that make you lol thread
Can't wait to play an MMO and grind by myself picture

The game is not fun if you rate your fun on progress
Which is ok for short terms
But in the long term I choose to gear up others lol
Which is also a volatile choice

The decision to leave or stay is the basic diff between those two, and that is highly subjective.
