DD WHM Onion Sword III for segs etc.
By Lili 2025-06-02 13:58:16
Like seriously, what is your point in this?
The point is not "your idea is bad", the point is "you don't need Onion Sword III to enact your idea". It's exactly the kind of feedback you asked for.

Thank you for trying out something odd, it helps me get a sense for what it can do on random jobs.
That said what Simon posted is also extremely valuable. I don't think he's attacking you at all. He's just being realistic on the value which is also helpful.
I'm still debating between staff or this sword for SMN. Both are horrible options but this at least gives me some realistic numbers to work with

Like seriously, what is your point in this? You're not adding anything useful, nor interesting to the discussion, just negative anti-hype bs. Is it because it's not "meta"? Lemme tell u one thing that it seems many of u often forget, WE PLAY THIS GAME FOR FUN.
If you don't wanna add constructive criticism to this post, i'd ask you to look somewhere else. This kind of attitude is also part of the problem why ffxi community can't have nice things while remaining stuck with a playerbase full of parrots and meta sheeps parroting what other ppl told em.
I don't think you are looking to have fun, here. You are looking for validation. If you were trying to have fun you would go, use the weapon and composition of your choosing and move on.
Also, what's with the mate hating BS? You either provide a solid alternative to the meta or just stfu about it. Why are people so desperate to be different they want to propose ***like WHM Onion Sword? You know what people love about WHM? A really good WHM that keeps the PT alive while reacting super fast to disaster.
When I thought that bringing a piercing-based job to a slashing fight wasn't stupid enough, people propose WHM DD because OmIOn SoWRd fAT BRAde.
I make my own segfarm PT and I usually incentive my friends to come whatever job they want. Something doesn't need to be effective to be fun. If our healer wants to come Fast Blade 2 to segfarm, we can get 8k segs and be fine with it. What we shouldn't do is pretend that this monstrosity is at all effective.
Btw, I have nothing against you or your post. I'm just posting hateful content to farm likes from the old (hateful, condescending, passive-aggressive) farts around here.

I'd also like to see more flexiblity in party compositions and stratgies.
I'm afraid between time gated content with limited accesiblity, content generally designed to take longer than what's considered the sweet spot these days and people getting old and have less time and patience for anything suboptimal we not going to see it.
*edit*
If you were trying to have fun you would go, use the weapon and composition of your choosing and move on. I for one appreciate any info regarding bonanza weapons so I'm glad if he posts about it here.

Not criticizing that at all. I was making a point about the attitude. Also, I don't think that creating the idea that backline needs to DD a good one.
Healers need to be good at keeping party alive, quickly removing debuffs etc. If a healer is sick of healing they can jump on a DD and go do some damage.
This is just like tanks trying to be high on parse while neglecting their role in the party. As a tank, I like to keep hate, good position and help the healer keep the party alive as much as I can. If I can pop a WS here and there, good. But you know what's better? Allowing my front-line to go glass-canon cause they trust I will keep them alive.
Playing your role effectively is not meta, it's RPG.

This will be closer to realistic FBII damage with WHM/NIN in segments run. I mean kinda, I think I set accuracy requirements too low, because I can't find the post with sheol C mobs stats.

Nyame is R30

I'd also like to see more flexiblity in party compositions and stratgies. Honestly, at this point, I wish they'd just let us Fell Cleave/AE or even AoE magic kill them down to save us the time doing the event. It still requires running around and pulling sets, just less spamming engage and WS macro.

What's the best WS damage average for the best club WS?

Suppose that answers that question then. Is KC>TP bonus club as offhand?

If you were to kclub youd probably do better spamming randgrith with r15 mjoll

Just wanted to say thanks for doing some testing! I picked up OSIII for my WAR to have fun with, and will incorporate some of your findings in my own testing. It's very, very situational, but a handy tool to have in the toolbox when the situational situation calls for it.
Hey, I still didn't pick a bonanza weapon and tbh as i am a huge fan of dd whm solo/low man shenanigans, i'd really love to hear some feedback from those who have a decent dd WHM, regarding the use of Onion Sword III on WHM for Fast Blade II spam.
My main worries are:
- low native skills
- low access to PDL gear which benefits that WS more than WSD
Since I usually prebuff with SCH n RDM before seg runs, i find myself with a lot of time to dd on whm when doing seg runs while regen V lasts 21+ minutes (hybrid potency/duration set) and Haste II for like 19 minutes (crooked naturalist roll before entering).
I usually aim for 1 million overall damage, but since WHM lacks decent slashing or piercing options, it ends up being hella reliant on the families you find during a run, when you find them and how strong the other dds/supports are.
For reference, usually spamming black halos asap i'd get around 35-40k dmg from ws, 60k vs skeletons or 15k vs blunt resistant mobs.
Since blunt resists are many, i'm wondering how would a superbuffed WHM perform in segs if it could use Fast Blade II with Onion Sword vs Slashing weak enemies?? I guess also for solo/low man shenanigans, it might be interesting.. but the stupid low sword skills paired with other factors make me worry.
That's why i made this post, if you got that sword and a decent DD WHM setup, could u please try n test some numbers by superbuffing urself while stacking PDL, multiattacks, fotia gear etc? I'm curious to see how viable or unviable it would be. Main concern could also be accuracy, but nothing that proper buffs can't fix!
I think it would be better than spamming 15k black halos vs blunt resistant mobs in seg runs, but if the dmg is gonna be 20-25k then it's not gonna be worth it imo.. since even Mystic Boon can reach 50-60k dmg under ideal conditions these days.
I wish DD WHM had more going for it :P but now that i got both nyame n bunzi r25 at least, i'll also go back at recording some ddwhm shenanigans for youtube as well! Stay tuned for the off meta DD WHMs party clearing content for challenge lol
