Hi all.

I've taken interest in building Bard recently, or well have always loved it but was blocked by the fact that I'll need all the REMAs. I thought perhaps if I got the longest one out of the way, the rest won't feel so hard (because aeonic is a matter of just partying up for a few hours, and gjallahorn can be bought mostly.)

Anyhow, I'm an abyssea newbie and only farmed cirein lamps for ee forging my RDM JSE, and that's the only experience I have with farming MN items, and even then my process wasn't the best I'm sure. I farmed amber light and went for gold chests 50% while also waiting to kill the frog and using the crab cheekmeat to summon the other NM. TLDR: I've seen people running from A to B, killing the timed NM and keeping tabs on timer, killing other spawned MN, returning, always proccing red to guarantee drop, then going to spawn cirein.

Now I'm interested in getting the iron plates, etc, as optimally and fast as possible, so I'd be super grateful if someone gave a step by step on doing it optimally without wasting time like I may have for cirein, equipping the right jobs, using the right moves, using TH properly (people say go NIN/WAR to guarantee red procs but I'm sure I can use thief somehow right? What setup would you recommend, etc, WS to spam, should THF be subbed? Etc).

Aside from that, just tips on handling the accumulation of NM KIs and then popping the final HM efficiently, etc.

Might alternatively easier to ask you how YOU would do it all, as well.

Thanks! I'm a bit excited and I'd be super appreciative with as much prep.

TH is huge, but farming KIs can be a nightmare without NIN/WAR with all the red proc weapons. If you're cleaving for gold chests for your KI's then go THF. If you're KI farming on the mobs, go NIN, and use a TH set. I multibox, so I bring both.

Edit: for red proccing setting regain atmas is nice so you can get TP and the red proc before the mob dies. Also for red proc weapons pickup as many low level low damage weapons as you can.

Edit2: I think they have a TH atma also don't they? Might be wrong on that, but if so that would be good to add to the ninja also.

I made my Daurdabla a little over a year ago -

I did plates in Uleguerand bc not much running around... but not sure if there is a better alternative. For this step I just did THF because I wasn't proc-ing anything, all I cared about was TH for getting the pop items.

Souls I did in Altepa. Procs also don't matter at this stage because with the RoV KI the upgrade is 100% - it just takes time for repops. You could always bounce between zones if you end up waiting on repops.

Apademak horns is the most annoying part and the one I would reccomend making sure you have red proc for - building the Dhorme Khimaira pop just to not get the Apademak KI sucks. I did a combination of farming Dhorme Khimaira pops and buying what I could off AH. I think I used NIN for this stage to ensure I'd get redproc and not waste a Dhorme pop.

It's def a little time consuming but honestly not the worst thing, and the end result is well worth it.

I also 2box so I bring THF and NIN to everything, but if i had to choose only one, I'd say THF is better for soloing most of the time. THF/WAR gets...10/13 procs? And if it's something you don't have you can flee/movespeed run away, deaggro the mob (or teleport to a new flux) and then try again. Once mobs go idle, their red proc is re-selected.

When dealing with loads of mobs that are drop-based (marids, sisyphus, snolls, snoll NM, all the stuff leading up to iron giant) plus the drop rates on the actual items, I think having higher TH will save you more time than having a few more red procs.

All the zones are pretty equivalent for the first two stages, it's just personal preference.

After making harp like 4-5 times all I'll say is buy as many Sisyphus fragments as you can afford, *** farming that guy

If you farm DK on thf and red is katana or GK, you can always flee to conflux, port away, port back and red proc will change. I also use this when farming cerb, or hydra nms.

Eh...idk..when you're multiboxing, sure, but if you're truly solo I'd say you're very likely to take 1-3 sisyphus respawns to get the rest of the pop set, which means you don't even need every one to drop.

Ontop of that, you could get a fragment from a chest (you are farming with proper amber light, right?).

Finally, spending the ~5 minutes going to the AH to get a sisyphus fragment, going back to abyssea, getting all your stuff set up, and teleporting back to the conflux, is 1/3 or more of the time it takes for him to even spawn again.

I think for a multiboxer it makes a ton of sense to buy fragments, but for a solo character it's very unlikely to save you significant time, or maybe any time.

Keep Sisyphus dead every time he spawns. Do the non-sisyphus stuff (snolls, marids, killing DK, killing Apademak) in between sisyphus pops.

My experience at this involves 99.99% of your NMs will need those 3/13. I always go NIN/War and load up on th gear, drops aren't really super rare.

A new(ish) tip...make use of the recycle bin. You can keep multiple rare items in there which immensely saves the time you need running around. You can now focus and load up on one pop item at a time, just don't forget they are in there and zone or log off.

Fleeing and resetting an NM's procs involves...maybe 45 seconds of time? You don't think the difference between th4 and th9 (or 10, or 11) will be more than 45 seconds' worth of farming, from snolls, snoll NM, marid, sisyphus, and apdemak? Even assuming you have to re-proc at least once every single time you pop DK, which is insanely unlikely and statistically near-impossible? You'll probably fight these NMs 40+ times, and you're basing your strategy on a 3/13 chance happening 40 times in a row?

Idk, follow whatever superstition your heart desires but I think this is just suboptimal play to make yourself feel better by not being frustrated by a blade: ei proc. I would encourage you to take down a few hundred samples of your red procs and see how your theory holds up to reality.

Th4 is pretty good for empy farming.

A real thief with th8 makes double items drop a lot more though.

Thief is for farming the ex NM drops for upgrades not the pop drops.

THF/war is what I always do with as many costume weapons as you have (scythe, wand, sword, dagger, polearm, staff, great sword). Really only leaves katana and great katana as a gap in what you can red proc. Think you need a few merits for the…staff? WS. I don’t remember. But either way you can cover most red procs like that.

Tip on building harp/empys in general: Having an alt or friend in zone even if they’re afk is huge just for the sake of treasure pool. You can leave tons of forced pop items in pool so you always have one ready to go.

For each of my 2 harps and an almace, i always farmed 50 sisyphus fragment first with both camping the NM and gold boxes, dbox them to myself, only then would I start farming the other NM + Dhorme Khimeira so that if Sisyphus is up, I kill him, if someone else took sisyphus no big deal, just warp out to get the fragment from my dbox.

Having to compete against other people for sisyphus while also running around killing other NMs would frustrate me. Also refuse to pay such high price for fragments that can be found in gold boxes.

you hit return to yourself and send 8 more

The next cycle you have to return to yourself 16 times

Then 24 times. It gets obnoxious but empyrean farming is already obnoxious. It just is what it is.

Sure, but if this guy is soloing it on a single character then he's either going to do both (Apademak & the pop item farming) on the same job, or he's gonna have to warp and change jobs every time he gets a pop, which is unrealistic and wasteful.

So ultimately the decision comes down to which single job is better at doing both, because using different jobs for each part isn't practical.

Another reflection on the dbox/AH method for pop items, you're also resetting all your lights when you go back to town, so you're constantly screwing up your lights. If you go to farm Sisyphus fragments and want to farm 50 of them, you need to get 1, warp, dbox it, go get another, warp, dbox it. Every time you have to rebuild pearl and amber lights (assuming no campaign). If you're farming them while using them, you farm lights once and you're good to go for all 40-50 fragments you need.

I guess you could say spending 30 hours before you farm DK could save you 10 hours while farming it (made up numbers) but...you still spent 20 more hours in abyssea so is that really saving time?

For a solo character I don't think anything holds a candle to THF/WAR for all of Daurdabla.

Mehhh it’s just my preference talking but I’d rather have a guaranteed Red Proc and TH Gear if I had to do it completely solo. Yes, you can de-aggro and reset Red but that leaves you open to get stolen too. And for some damn reason Apademak area is always buzzing on Asura, or at least it was 3+ years ago so the risk is too high imo. I love TH and I farm with THF all the time but it very often “feels” like TH doesn’t matter either way.

I would recommend having a mule with you if possible. THF Main for the TH and you don’t need anything special gear wise to wreck abyssea. And a WAR/NIN or a NIN/WAR as both get all 13 Reds with some leg work. OR use your main for the Reds (probably has most of the legwork already done) and just use the mule as the TH.

Even getting the KI plus another set of pop items and warping back as thief just for the NM is worth it.

Will literally save you about half your kills.
