So it's been a little bit since people got to choose free weapons, which did you go with and would you still make the same choice now? To me, it's no question that Miracle Cheer is in a league of its own and would get it again in a heartbeat.
I'm Still stuck in choice paralysis lol.

I see great uses for many weapon choices on a regular basis now- the real key with your choice is can you maximize those moments in the mix of your jobs and your choice.

I went Wizard's Rod for a unique use, and for that use I'm loving it.

Ive held onto my kupon on my main, none of the choices seem like they are big enough game changers for my current jobs to justify blowing it on anything.

Only option Im considering is maybe diamond aspis for infinite skillchain shenanigans on my paladin.

I don't regret choosing miracle horn one bit. I'd get little use out of the shield anyway. Horn lets me put songs on healer and tank then don't need to care about DD songs over writing them. Ballads get +1 from legs and duration doesn't matter then.

I like wizard's rod the more I look at it.

The nuking club is not bad either.

Picked up the cheer on my alt and it's honestly exceeded my expectations. Easy ballads, 15mins mazurkas and 20mins soul voice songs when doing solo stuff (especially in sortie/ody) make life worth living. Also 15mins songs when nitro are down if an oopsie happens comes in clutch.

Grabbed the katana on my main since I actually have the job geared and really like it, but honestly have had zero use for it so far. Kunimitsu is just too insane of an offhand when doing ninja stuff, and shadows are just too niche nowadays for most things. Coping that it'll maybe serve a purpose in the following limbus updates but... yeah.

In hindsight, I'd probably have picked either Flametongue or Wizard's Rod. Surely the free voucher thing is gonna be yearly, right? Right...

I picked Wizard’s Rod.

The mechanic it adds is actually quite fun. Basically, the longer a SC chain goes on the more MB damage you do. This unique flavor feels akin to REMA-level.

On my not-so-geared SCH, it increased my damage significantly during MBs.

I'm leaning towards onion sword III because a fusion option on BLU would be nice, however I think it would end up beeing inventory -1 and see no real use 99% of the time simply because going back to pre tizona MP management would mean to sacrifice spell points for stuff like magic hammer or battery charge.

From a use for current content perspective I suspect icebrand would help me the most for Dhartok magic soloing but I doubt it would make a significant impact on my clear time.

Since we're still expecting major additions to limbus I'd suggest to save the KI till we know what we'll be grinding the next 3-5+ years.

I also haven't picked due to the inventory-1 of it all. The options I'd consider (Onion Sword III, Air Knife, and Wizard's Rod) are all basically useless for the way I play FFXI right now.

If I win the IRL lottery and don't have to work anymore, I'll start farming Odyssey and pick Onion Sword III.

If I win Mog Bonanza Rank 1 on my main, I'd pick Air Knife / Moogle Iris and get an HQ Air Knife for offhand on THF and DNC.

If everyone I know dies in a horrible accident and my life becomes grim enough that I farm Sortie every night on BLM, SCH, or GEO, I'd pick Wizard's Rod.

Shield has been great so far.

The extra duration on Saboteur has been pretty nice.

I also play BST and WAR. I kinda prefer fencer on BST.

The Bad:
I did notice the SC Window mechanic glitches out when you have multiple enemies attacking you. Or if the monster goes white due to a pet attacking something else.

I don't think this is how it works. It has the highest bonus 3 sec after the MB windows is open afaik, so pretty much in the moment when skillchain window is open (you can't SC right after SC, you need to wait ~3 sec), then the bonus falls off the longer you wait.

Onion Sword is pretty fun on BLU in Sortie for ACEG bosses, because it makes light with all the fragmentation WSs and doesn't wall BlackHalo and Savage users.

I believe that is correct, yes.

From testing the weapon. It seems like the longer the SC, such as in 4-step, the more damage this bonus does. Or that’s what I was finding anyway from messing around.

Not saying this isn't true for Wizard's Rod, but it's also worth noting that this is true for any magic burst in the entire game. It'd be worth testing more thoroughly to see if the Wizard's Rod bonus is separately affected by this mechanic...

The bonus is based on when you cast MB during the MB window and that what I was referring to. Now higher bonus based on longer SC is probably some confusion with how MB works in general like Meltaru noticed. I even misunderstood Senaki's post and though he was talking about SC window being longer not SC chain being longer, because neither description or what was tested before has anything to do with how many steps is in the skillchain.

Another thing to keep in mind when testing that Wizard's Rod is the nuke wall's cadence. I've noticed that if I'm bursting with several mages, the wall ramps up quickly after the first magic burst, then usually decreases drastically in the middle of the burst window before ramping up again. It sort of ping-pongs.

For example last night I was doing Kei as SCH with a GEO and RDM. The RDM was bursting too cuz I couldn't bring myself to ask them not to, so the wall was noticeable. I would make Fragmentation, they would both land a Thunder V before me, my Thunder V would be resisted hard to like 20k damage (normally ~75k), then I would squeeze in a second burst with Thunder IV and it would often do 35k+ which suggests it was not walled nearly as much as my first nuke was.

I don't have a Wizard's Rod, but that second burst is landing right around time it would be expected to kick in as well, so if you have multiple bursts going off you could potentially see the mid-window nuke wall relief and lump it in with the Wizard's Rod bonus.

Yeah it's regular nuke wall mechanic. Nuke wall resets after 5 sec passed from the first nuke which wasn't walled.

Another happy Wizard's Rod owner here. Picked it on my alt with all of BLM SCH RDM GEO. Don't have and prob won't get a R25+ Bunzi's on that character any time remotely soon, really wasn't in the mood to make a BLM mythic or a Prime staff, so it's a killer nuke piece for me that is a significant improvement for all of those jobs and I'm quite satisfied. That character's other jobs are WHM SMN COR (where I didn't care about their available options), and REMA BRD which was the other real contender. I just felt that Miracle Cheer's additional utility (considering already having the REMAs) wasn't quite as compelling to me as the improvement for my nukers.

On my main, I'm a long time dedicated NIN so just had to get the katana. Even if it's a niche piece, the niches are very unique and pretty cool. Biggest draw to me is the huge enmity generation to open up some legitimately new tanking options, and the shadows on party members is pretty neat for a general party defensive buff that's sometimes really useful (even older stuff like Dyna and allowing your party to avoid things like Sweep/Frypan stuns is really nice, sometimes an Ambu is good, it might be really good for Limbus as that expands...) Also just something I've coveted for a while for my NIN, especially after the jealousy of having an LS mate who won a Bonanza years ago and got the thing lol (he doesn't even LIKE Ninja that much, it's not fairrrr!)

Would have also been interested in Ice Brand for a BLU offhand/nuke piece, shield for BST PLD WAR. I'd go for one of those if I ever have another chance.

I got miracle cheer for Maletaru because BRD has top priority for her and it occupies some interesting niches. I'm happy to have it and miss it when playing other characters with BRD but no MC.

For Mekillthings, I took yagyu and I've used it a bit. Can be quite helpful but unfortunately doesn't break NIN into the meta anywhere. Fortunately I play with friends, so being slightly suboptimal isn't a big deal. It sometimes saves our bacon in segs. I've been playing NIN forever and it was too unique an opportunity to pass up.

I don't regret either, at all.
