Many XI players moved to WoW when it launched, and then proceeded to try convert us to play that. In XP parties, shout chat and linkshell chat this was rampant for a couple of years. Not only talking up WoW but putting down XI.

It was so annoying that it created a backlash in our community against WoW to the point even mentioning the game caused arguments, that funnily enough also moved onward into XIV (cause many players went from XI to XIV in the early years and carried over many things into that community, another one being never logging out cause of playonline)

A very similar thing happened with XIV when it launched into ARR, but this time it went on much longer because the XIV players really wanted us to move over and saw us not doing that as hurting the success of their game. This lasted a good 4-5 years, but died out after a while too.

So yes you're correct, and for the same reason. If you try convert people in a community you get backlash, this is nothing new.

This is so true, it happens all the time and its a shame. They crap on an incredible piece of art that XI is just to help their current fix. It was relentless during the guildwork era, there was like a band of trolls from XIV that would just ***on anyone posting anything XI related. They do all this only to see those same people come back to try XI again years later, they don't even know or care about the damage they do to it. Same thing we are seeing here with these crap private servers.

To be fair all I expected was like 3 replies, maybe. What ensued was nothing short of madness. I never expected anyone to take things to heart so much and make such a fuss over it. Wasnt sure if I should have just deleted the thread or not...

In fairness I don't exactly keep up with the updates to PS but I didn't think any of them had figured out salvage, einherjar, nyzul, assaults, missions, mythic weapons, etc. Besieged is, I'm sure, a whole 'nother beast, but they've got a crack team of volunteers, so I'm sure all that stuff is right around the corner. It has been for 10 years so SURELY it's almost done.

I hear you saying "hey Maletaru can't you do all that content on 16 official servers without any bugs or discrepancies?" To which i say shut the hell up, I'm already invested in my glitchy ***and I forgot how ffxi is supposed to work, so this feels normal now.

I thought there was one that had Whitegate fully operational sans Besieged. The one Spicy got ran out of.

Eden. They stay out of the limelight yet have some of the most dedicated coders to 1:1ing retail via lots of captures and constant efforts to math out everything and capture whatever they can on retail and almost never settle for less than era accurate. They go through every turbo niche 2003-2012 video out there just to make sure something is as accurate as it can possibly be. The only server I’d realistically vouch for, for their borderline crazy commitment to recreating the era exactly.

I haven’t played Eden in years, since the lack of custom flavoring inevitably gets dry, and we’re constantly lead to believe servers like Horizon and whatever else new comes along will be the “next big thing”. Spent too long on Horizon and the shortsighted and irresponsible administration there leaves a poor taste in my mouth. Again, another server where the primary enjoyment is the people you play with and not so much getting caught up in silly drama.
