Another FFXI Private Server.

I have never once told a friend they should come play ffxi, I am not a deal on the street corner trying to get people hooked on something that is bad for them!

plus they all know it is basically the only game I play, if they want to try it they can ask me about doing so. Which 1 did after playing the ffxi 14 raid.

Why are people still complaining about a subscription cost in 2025? grow up.

Anyway, somebody give me the tl;dr does it have TOAU? No? not worth the time.

argument still falls relatively flat when you look at the options of free games out there. someone choosing to play an ffxi private server when there are thousands of free MMOs and games to play with friends.. yeah.. i don't think that's a monetary decision. they are playing it because of something else.

argument also falls flat when you take into consideration the fact that probably upwards of 80-90% of PS players are former ffxi players so they aren't people who were convinced by their friends to play.

basically on all fronts it falls flat. retail players are likely the poorer of the 2 because i said so :)

EDIT: also, we have a ton of data on this topic already. there are people paying FULL PRICE to play wow classic, runescape classic etc.

i enjoy reading this every time it comes up though. gotta cope somehow i guess

Private servers are for people with different tastes. Cleaned it for FFXIAH community.

There has always been some kind of weird mental block with people over a sub, it's like people don't just see the number but instead become fixated on doing the calculations about if they will use the service enough to get the "worth out of" that $12 ($3 a week) to an unreasonable degree.

It's like people will waste money on anything from overpriced coffee, snacks, games they never play on steam, twitch donations, tips for fast food delivery etc and throw money down the drain constantly but suddenly become highly economical with their monocle and calculator out when it comes to a sub.

It makes no sense, but it's how peoples minds work.

So yes it is a thing.

I think it's hilarious to pin the problems with the retail community on a handful of forum posters who have all contributed more to the XI community knowledge base than any of the I'm sure very real and rich PS players.

What I don't understand is why PS enthusiasts spend so much time trying to convince other people who play retail that their experience is so great. If it is, go play it and leave us here to derail retail threads by page 2

I frequently merit on greater colibri... Its all I'll ever need.

It was me, you know what you did, you didn't get suspended or topicbanned or anything else, so don't *** whine about it. Like, being totally fair, it wasn't awful, but take a look around, man, do some of these people seem like they can handle nuance

So, better to just nip that early and avoid actual problems. I think my track record of letting things mostly play out without interference is good enough that I get the benefit of the doubt on stuff like that.

I used to only hate nasomi for constantly breaking people's retail installs who would come to the windower discord for help getting their retail to work.

yeah.. this keeps being espoused like it was a massive coordinated attack when it was just draylo posting pictures of youtube comments on a few videos.. pretty sure that did not happen here, in any of the XI discords, on the subreddits, on BG, etc.

i would encourage none of you to ever read youtube comments, if you're reading youtube comments on an XI video you might be too cooked to come back from

Honestly, should just demain the private server sections. If it's not about trying to proselytize to retail, why do they need the reach? Retail players aren't going to go digging through that forum just for a reason to be upset.

Every one of these threads feels like a thinly veiled ad, especially with the way they rapidly summon people who haven't posted here since they played retail years/decades ago to defend them.

It was happening a lot and it was mostly Kipling doing it on socks, he was also the one throwing money around.

It was rampant on the XI reddit, any youtube video and other places. He could not control himself.

It just feels purposely antagonistic. I don't know what the conversation was to get them their own section. Doesn't do what they intended though, I know that much.

It's never people on (server) talking to people on (server) or about (server) it's just civil war within 2 posts no matter what.

I wouldnt say it was an ad, maybe slightly as all videos need to be since im trying to grow a channel. So its more an ad for me than the server. I for one still play retail every few months or so, I still enjoy it to an extent, I just prefer the 75 era of the game. I dont ***on Retail and never will, a lot of people here subbed to my channel when I started my Return to Vanadiel series on YT and it was great, and some of them like my private server stuff to.

I'll never say one is better than the other, I'll just say I have a preference. At no point did I ever imagine a huge thread of bitching, insulting and anarchy would ensue from my post. I just wanted to share some XI content with folk. I find it insane whats been happening here since I posted the thread.

I don't think they need the advertisement whatsoever, most people are already aware they exist and should they find themselves interested there's many avenues to find them. I think Tuvae started this thread moreso with a completely different intention rather than straight up advertisement but it's incredibly hard to perceive it as anything else than that, then commences the inevitable derailment that ensued shortly after.

Sure, you could qualify my posts from the other day as defensive, but I moreso wanted to provide a more logistical point of view from someone who enjoy(ed, because apparently 3 years ago is a much different game than it is now lol) both retail and private servers. I like FFXI. I like different variations of FFXI. I simply prefer the older over the newer. Will I resub to retail again? Probably lol, I have some things yet to be accomplished on retail. If Guildwork still functioned at the last time I unsubbed, I'd of updated my gear so it didn't look like I quit so early and potentially discredited me.

my guess is it was literally created because of the above, as a containment zone. so what you guys are actually asking for is a ban on private server talk or where would you rather it go?

i'd agree with it not showing up on the front page, but i also think almost no one comes here for private server ***anyways

It was created cause Spicy was a dumbass at the time and used his connections to get it spread everywhere, he asked for this to be made and got it.

Well since you're trying to grow your channel you should know people that watch PS server videos don't tend to watch videos about retail, and vice versa.
