So I'm looking into running a DND campaign set in Vana'diel with some of my friends. Ideally, I'd like to use the zones to make battlemaps from, essentially exporting the zone and using a top-down view to turn it into a 2D top-down image of the zone.

Does anyone know if this is possible and how to go about doing it? It'd save a lot of time over making everything from scratch in something like Dungeondraft.

This sounds like a really cool idea and maybe something I will try also. Wonder if I could get something printed onto a cloth like a map.

the remapster project does exactly that - extract zone geometries, flatten them up, convert them into maps. It's a bit technical and takes some work, but it's not too hard.

Never been too big on visual mods, so while I knew remapster existed I never looked too far into it. That is a well-thought out process and the Attohwa map looks absolutely amazing. Blog post is totally worth the quick read.
