The recent Bgwiki update of tier V pdl being +129/256 referencing "Attack required to reach cap for PDL Tier 5 slightly higher than expected - Gomadara, Twitter" seemed odd to me given a 256 or 1024 system should be easy to hit a nice round 0.5(128/256). So I went to the reference for the update and read through it and I think their test isn't accurate and there are some flaws overall.
The first issue is that he based his findings on the amount of attack needed to reach the minimum pDIF limit (effective ratio max). Anyone who is familiar with the damage equations knows that the max pDIF limits are separate functions from the minimum and ratio is just an input to get the final pDIF value. Additionally, he based his results on not seeing a dmg value for the minimum range over about 500-1000 hits… which could have just been good old RNG not giving him the result that he wanted.
I think the original tester had the correct value of 128/256, so I then performed 3 of my own additional tests which suggest the original 128/256 value is the correct one(Damage Limit+ values are fractions of 256 - Prothescar, FFXIAH).
To do this I chose a 1 handed weapon, GS, and Scythe that would hit for 1 dmg less if the value was 128/256 compared to 129/256. So if we see that minimum value at all it isimpossible that the pdl bonus is 129/256.
Test 1 :
lv99DRK/NIN vs Ogre Fly in Li'telor with 200STR and 1110 attack using eminent sickle(232base+33fSTR).
Minimum dmg if 128/256 = floor((232+33)*(4+(128/256))) = 1192
Minimum dmg if 129/256 = floor((232+33)*(4+(129/256))) = 1193
Result: I was able to hit 1192
Test 2 :
lv99DRK/NIN vs Ogre Fly in Li'telor with 206STR and 780 attack using Skeld Sword(55base+14fSTR).
Minimum dmg if 128/256 = floor((55+14)*(4+(128/256))) = 258
Minimum dmg if 129/256 = floor((55+14)*(4+(129/256))) = 259
Result: I was able to hit 258
Test 3 :
lv99DRK/NIN vs Ogre Fly in Li'telor with 214STR and 984 attack using Medicor Great Sword(183base+28fSTR).
Minimum dmg if 128/256 = floor((183+28)*(4+(128/256))) = 896
Minimum dmg if 129/256 = floor((183+28)*(4+(129/256))) = 897
Result: I was able to hit 896
Conclusion: Since the highest level Ogrefly only has 164 defense and 45 VIT, myfSTR and ratio(and thus pDIF) was easily capped. There it should have been impossible to see these low numbers unless the dmg limit + value was 128/256. I will be updating BgWiki back to 128/256.
