Considering they have stopped major updates and removed many developers, the numbers are holding up pretty well. For comparison they were around 84k in Oct 2018, Asura averages around 2.5k-3k concurrent at peak and that's been stable since then too.

It would've been fine 10 years or more ago but the world has changed, MMOs have changed, our lives have changed, do you really expect to plan my in-time game around the remote chance that besieged MIGHT happen?
That's incredibly unefficient and frustrating.

FWIW I think the nice thing about playing FFXI in 2025 this is kind of a solved problem to some degree. You don't have to personally see the besieged incoming message, you just need anyone in (either of) your linkshell(s), Discord, or unity chats to notice that besieged is incoming and tell you/everyone. Then you can just decide if you want to go do that or would prefer to do the thing you're doing.

If besieged ends up having more valuable rewards in the future, maybe people will say "let's hold off on this seg farm until after besieged is over, I need to get my ISA." For now, I think most people will just say "*** besieged, I'd rather get my muffins/dynamis medals/gil/plasm."

Obviously it's not something you can schedule on your own time and you're subject to the beastmen hordes deciding to attack, but it doesn't seem like something you have to (or can) plan your life around.

Honestly the whole "this was fine 20 years ago but these days nobody has time for content like that!" argument is getting a bit old to me.

Your life has changed, as life does, and so now you think nobody should design games for the person you used to be, only for the person you are now?

We also have such a high concentration of tech-savvy people that it's likely a besieged tracker/notification system would emerge if it reached sufficient importance. A discord bot that drops a message into a channel to say that it's advancing would be a great way to do it, IMO.

Isn't it possible to delay/stop all together a Besieged group by engaging it outside? That's the half of Besieged people forget about because there is no longer any value in doing so to protect the candy. Still, it has the potential for trolling. You think flailing dragon was bad? If Besieged becomes actually valuable, it wouldn't take much for someone to *** it up.

I never understood the extra mechanic for besieged starting, speaking of that.

They all literally run to Al Zabhi, and you can stop at best a handful of them.

The rest just run past you. I don't know how you actually delay it in any meaningful way. (talking about the advancing, not killing mirrors)

Like if you grab Galool/Gurfurlur/medusa as they run by can you just stop besieged from happening? Does the mega even run by? ive only ever witnessed the run by a couple times.

I think fighting the beastmen outside the city is merely a battle exercise. They move way too fast to even attempt to kill any of them (maybe the ones on Wivres move slower). They don't stop to engage you when you attack them, they don't aggro you, and certain debuffs like Subduction from sudden lunge don't even land on them. So could you kill Galool/Gurfurlur/Medusa? I doub't you'd be able to deal enough damage on them before they could get to the walls.

I mean, I guess you could in theory kill half their population outside the city walls if you had enough people strategically places in certain spots spamming aoe damage on groups, but that would only just screw everyone else out of potential points. You don't get any rewards for killing beastmen outside the city

Could be simply for immersion, to give that capture the flag feel, or something never fully implemented.

I'm just saying it can *** up points/start time and given how much of a kerfuffle failing Mireu on Asura was, it's not out of the realm of possibility for trolls to *** with this as well.

Would take exactly 127.65 seconds to update whereisdi to track besieged as well.

Imma chronometer it!

Giving Campaign the same treatment on the other hand...

That seems like a problem if your server is filled with asura-holes.

For sure. Good thing I'm not on Asura.
