For the record I wasn't advocating RMT, I neither buy gil or server transfer (or play FFXI anymore). Faced with the two choices you'd be really dumb to pay more for less and when it is also effectively RMT if you go to get something for 20M or more less though.

Yeah this is my perception too. People don't want to server transfer because then they lose all their social connections. But server merging is this ideal solution where they don't have to risk what they have and then more people will = better server. I intentionally play on a low pop server, more =/= better. I don't randomly need more strangers slowing down my queues because people won't go to servers that fit what they are looking for in a server experience.

The robust AH and larger server population exists, you just have to server transfer for them. If you can't stand that you haven't made your own server great again, then join one that better describes what you want. You can even convince your friends to go with you if they are your friends.

This server is pretty low population in NA time around 400 count. JP primetime is about 600 server count though. There are no "merc" yells on this server by the way except for some job points/exemplar points RMT thing. It can be frustrating to find people to do things, for sure. There is low stock on some +2 necks sometimes, but plenty of REMA materials on sale. The tough part can be finding people to do odyssey/omen/sortie since it seems most people are in a static already.

I've always said they should do it again. Low numbers like that are demoralizing and when people return and see that it makes them quit. Don't see any benefit to leaving them, it doesn't need so many servers. Could argue the benefit it has to SE with server transfers but they are also losing players. Too many ppl take the sea all number as an indicator of health (especially on those other servers)

Some day those graveyard servers will be widely popluated and prosperous again!

If we merge and close those servers now the dream is dead for good!


Bottom line is as long as they make more profit from server jumps as the running of those graveyard servers costs them nothing gets closed or merged.

Server merges are bad, they already offer cheap server swaps and that is enough.

I understand the point of people coming back to lower pop, but server merges make people quit who area already playing.

Name loss (not only your name but people around you that you were familiar with), community loss, unable to do content when they want and also the negative messaging of actually doing a merge in the first place. An official merge isn't just a mechanical thing, there is a lot of psychology that comes into play.

This is why XIV will also never do merges.

They have needed them on some servers for a long while, but they will never do them becasue doing a merge is announcing to the world that they need to do merges.

It's like a boxer saying they might retire, if he was to say that then there is no might anymore because he has now changed how people view him anyway. If XIV announced they were doing merges on the smaller servers the media would report on it and more players would leave because of it, it's a destructive act because it implies the game is dying. So they will never do it, it goes against the narrative of the company and the players that are emotionally invested in the success aspect of the game.

I think there could be merit to this point, about showing your "weaklness" publically and what that brings etc.

Altough in the case of FFXI specifically I'm not sure it's a particularly relevant point.
I doubt them or anybody else care that much at this point.
So if they're not doing server merges I'm leaning to think the main reasons are probably others than that you just exposed.

Then pay 15 bucks to move to Asura, Bahamut or Odin. Those on low pop servers have their group of friends they happily do stuff with and dont need mercs and PUGS.

£18 per account and when most people have multiple accounts isn't cheap. Should be a fiver at most.

Its more likely you ARE the merc and are looking for more clients. In which case, pay the 15 per account. Consider it the cost of doing business.

I merc when I play but I don't sell gil so it's not business.

Server change is 1/2 price during welcome home campaigns, they do them 4 times a year.

Even half price is overpriced

Not for a one off journey, it's only overpriced for carpet bagging.

£9 is still pretty steep, £6 is a fair price IMO. I'm already on Asura though - forgot what price it was per account when I moved in 2016.

People don't want to be the one to lead/organize for content they want and that gets exposed when they play on a server where they can't send "AeonicThreeZones" a tell and pay 25m.

As someone one bismarck. The low population can be a head ache at times but I think the benefits outwthe negatives atleast for me. A lot of newer or returning players will never organize anything. That holds the. Back more than the population imo. If you're not willing to organize for what you want you get the left overs of those who do.

You can have low pop server, or you can have mercs and pugs and a gorillion bots at Locus camps.

If you don't like bots, come to Asura. We get our ML 50s legit. I have been overnighting almost every night. Commitment.

Bismarck is where I was born. I remember being a lvl 10rdm/war and being told I was *** terrible at every corner.
