I actually somewhat agree with the premise PS fans often tout that game preference is just a personal opinion thing and different people like different games for various personal reasons. I think there's still room for debate about WHY one game is better than another though, and I really don't hear a lot of reasons why PS or "the 75 era" is better, as content, than retail. Common reasons are typically: Modern ffxi has bots (you can just...not bot) PS has exp parties which are really fun social experiences (the exp party is the least important part of this fun. Take those fun people and go play a real game with them instead) Retail is really grindy (75 era FFXI is absurdly grindy and repetitive, with WAY fewer options to break up the grind) I just fundamentally disagree with most of the opinions i hear and it doesn't help that, in my experience, the vast majority of PS stans haven't played retail in years, or often in decades. When they did play, it was often for like...under a month, only during free login campaigns, or they put in 1/1000th of the effort they put into their PS of choice. Or some combination of all of the above. If you truly experienced all that retail has to offer and then got burned out and you're enjoying a change of pace...whatever you do you. If you're ignorant AF about retail and just making up nonsense and idolizing level 75 because you played it when you were a teen, I think you should revisit your assumptions about retail. Maybe you weren't on the right server, didn't give it enough time, didn't have the right expectations, guidance, or put in enough effort to find a community. I guess it's also easier to just sit AFK for an hour with a party flag up than it is to actually socialize, so I'll hand that point to the PS. Making casual acquaintances is probably lower-effort on a PS because you just have to type in party chat about how good DRG used to be before the penta thrust nerf.

And golly, why would anyone question someone like you who, prior to commenting in a different private server thread, had zero interaction with this community at all. Why would anyone question someone who has ONLY posted in two threads, both related to private servers, who also claims they totally played a long time ago and the best aspect of that old experience was the thing universally panned by the playerbase. This 100%. I know this thread is obviously biased, but my FC from FFXIV taught me one thing. "You can't force people to enjoy what you love." There are FFXI vets who played this game for years and then switched to FFXIV, and they have no intention of going back. They enjoy hearing me share my memories in their Discord, but that doesn’t mean they want to come back.

But you and others keep bugging us acting like you are playing the more sophisticated brand of FFXI. I just find it incredible people could ever think that server is somehow superior to retail. It's almost comical, like you are not a real FFXI fan.
