MacBain is a strong contender for best looking Great Sword.
It's definitely my favorite.
Helgoland is my favorite great axe for not being an actual great axe. If anything it's just great.
Flanged Mace is my favorite club.
It's kind of criminal that none of these are rema

For blind people probably scimitar.
By Draylo 2024-12-26 23:09:41
This is too hard, I have collected almost every sword for lockstyle purposes. I really enjoy most scimitars as they look really cool, Zantetsuken is a big contender. Obviously Tizona, but I think after seeing it so much/long it has lost some luster for me.
Sagasinger is still really cool when engaged, and meh when not. It makes for some nice lockstyles.
Excalipoors are a nice joke weapon when paired with funny costumes.
I still think Fermion Sword is the best. Cool looking lightsaber... I have two custom figures done with it because I liked it so much.

Teodor is an interesting fella. Arciela called him a libertine (a person, especially a man, who behaves without moral principles or a sense of responsibility, especially in sexual matters), he's the Undying Naakual and former Deathborne Xol before Balamor. Wields a pimp cane named Vampirism but they never really even hint at such a condition. Has a soft spot for his bro Hades. All in all one of the oddest of non main characters maybe?

I mean he's a vampire in everything but name and can walk in the sun. His motivations are unconfined and unrefined by the things that traditionally shape those types of characters. And since we have actual vampires in this world to contrast him, he has perfect camouflage unless he reveals what he is(even if he dresses that way). He definitely wins the metric for "if you're more attractive, people treat you better".
I guess when most of your immortals are crazy zilart and Vegeta, I mean Nag'molada, or eidolons then he does actually stand apart from the rest of them by a fair bit.

I guess the guy in the Oubliette that gives the drain scroll quest is a vampire, is that what you meant? Can't think of anyone else atm.

The mobs that are vampires from white gate expansion.
1 big hand, ugly face. Where BLU learns Bloodrake. Sometimes turns into a swarm of dogs and bats. ZNM version sometimes casts dreadspikes and kills dual wielders. Stops you from exiting the C's basement.

... you know what Helgoland is if you're a tarutaru? It's a freakin' to-go coffee cup on a stick. Great to carry around and do the /hurray motion with while wearing the malboro apron.

How could you all fail to mention Nadrs?

So back when I was an ultra scrub and not just an average scrub ;3 I took down Cargo Crab Colin for the first time in Korroloka tunnel as (I think) a level 27 Beastmaster.
First time I saw him I asked my linkshell if I could kill a "Crab" in Korroloka, near Gustaberg area. The person who responded said I could, and he only drops a clock. Apparently, he thought I was talking about Bernie. Needless to say, I got destroyed attempting him the first time. Went back, this time prepared on BST and was able to charm the surrounding Leeches and Spiders in the area and took him down. Got the Sword drop that I never knew existed. Thought it was the coolest looking sword I'd ever seen up to that point in the game used it on a THF while leveling. Years later when I made another character, I made an effort to farm that sword early on so I could use it on BLU while leveling in the Qufim/Delkfutt stages, and that curved blade took me all the way into my 50s, maybe even longer. It was my beloved sword, and still kinda is.
Thanks for reminding me of this classic curvy blade :D

I think that's the only part of old era XI I actually miss, spending time camping some random NM to get a drop you'd use while levelling, often for many levels. Required absurd amounts of time to kit yourself out before you even turned that party flag on, but when you showed up wearing the best it was a nice feeling.

Yooooo that's a nice call out, gonna have to consider using that for my BLU offhand lockstyle (Tizona main).
Sometimes I use Colada. I don't LOVE the model but do kinda dig the unique red, and my main reason is appreciating the historical accuracy of pairing it with Tizona. Tizona and Colada were the two famous swords of El Cid (and I've seen the real Tiz woo!) ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizona
Job dependent for me too:
PLD is Sanus Ensis paired with Adamas
RDM I usually rock Sagasinger, sometimes Vampirism (whether MH or OH) for a strong pimp hand
BLU Tizona/???
WAR or other Naegling bros: usually Firangi (Organics). I kinda dig Xiutleato too, if using armor with a more black/red theme.

While it wouldn't be my favorite either, I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen a single person pick Burtgang. It's a pretty attractive model with some good detail to it (at least as far as FFXI graphics go).

Joyeuse? Looks fancy and dainty with a little blue barb on the end. Very fun to get the drop back in the day.

Murgelis is also a weak sauce choice because it's just a standard rapier with a fluke in the middle (I mean it is a pretty cool fluke honestly). Which is just dumb extra weight, that is again, on A PIERCING SWORD!
That's a swordbreaker. It's meant to trap your opponent's blade on a parry. It's reversed on the bottom for a downward parry to pull and potentially disarm. Side note: White damage from Murgleis does piercing damage as it should, but weaponskills are still considered slashing due to game restrictions.
Murgleis above all.

Only thing i don't like about Burtgang
Is that ugly piece of alexandrite on the end just like Yagrush
Other than that beautiful sword
i use it for lockstyle or Excalibur

I was just thinking about this sword. I don't recall them ever using this model again, definitely a unique one. Actually, all of the gear from Dawn HTBF are unique models, including the bow. One of the few sets of gear they've never repurposed if I'm not mistaken.
