Acquired June 2025. Based on the system's records, it was active as early as April 2025.

This model specifically:

Current BIOS version is the latest one available on Lenovo's support site: NMCN31WW from 16 May 2025.

Do you see any other non-ffxi event logs of level critical/error/warning correlating with the crashes? And any particular spam or very high rate of other event logs regardless of severity level?
OK, I am noticing a pattern based on what Aquatiq mentioned about security. The last three timestamps of POL's application crash coincided exactly with a routine logon event in the Security section of Event Viewer.

I can't see records from previous days. The entries in the Security section are so numerous that the log gets truncated in a matter of hours from the present. Nevertheless, it's no coincidence. I think this background activity is crashing POL for some reason.

Simple googling reveals this isn't a malicious background activity—it's just garden-variety Windows stuff. But is there any way to keep it from affecting other applications?

Edit: me dumb. This is actually evidence of a crash report, not a cause for trouble.

If anyone in the future encounters this issue, Raptor Lake CPU instability is the culprit. Depending on your motherboard manufacturer, a BIOS update may not treat the issue—but here's what worked for me.

You have:
- Intel i9 13th gen or 14th gen CPU (i9-13xxx or i9-14xxx)
- Desktop or laptop

Symptoms include:
- Apparent stability on a new CPU for several weeks; in other words, the issue comes "out of nowhere."
- FFXI crashes inconsistently after launch, anywhere from seconds to hours.
- FFXI crashes irrespective CPU/GPU/RAM load (i.e. standing in Mog House vs. standing in Mhaura).
- FFXI is more stable with fewer addons/plugins, especially memory-intensive ones (FindAll) but fully disabling nonessential Windower functions does not resolve the issue.
- GearSwap (or other complex Lua) work as intended, but Windower generates random and unusual Lua errors where no problems actually exist.
- Possibly other applications reporting memory errors, such as STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION in Chrome...
- ...however, RAM tests report no issues with memory.

What to do:
- First, update your motherboard BIOS. Some motherboard manufacturers took care of this issue already. But if that doesn't work...
- Download the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel XTU).
- Underclock your Performance Core Ratio by two points. In my case, I have a 5.2Ghz processor (52x) and I underclocked by 200Mhz (50x).
- Apply, and configure Intel XTU to start automatically when Windows starts.

Undervolting may work for some, but I could not get a stable system after extremely modest voltage adjustments. Underclocking is a compromise that costs me little in terms of CPU processing power in exchange for stability.

I don't know if this is a long-term fix. This may only forestall the inevitable. However, for those who need a stable system in the short run, I can attest this worked.

This is interesting. It lines up exactly with a problem I've been having with a laptop using Raptor Lake, except that my computer worked fine with Final Fantasy XI for well over a year before the crashes to the desktop started. I had purchased Dell premium support for this laptop and after about a month of talking to Dell support I convinced them to replace the motherboard, which should happen soon. In the meantime I've been using a different computer for FFXI.

My laptop is working without crashes again after getting the motherboard replaced. It has a 13th generation Intel Core i9. If the problem ever comes back, I'll try the fix that alamihgo described.
