The biggest failure of DEI is that it was also heavily pushed in universities and colleges.
The teachers who pass and fail students are shamed and have been for the past 10 years for not having an equal pass rate of women and minorities, as asian and white men. So they pass people from those groups who should be failing in very high numbers (numbers of people from group interested means people in those groups are of a higher standard, majority of women and minorities do not want to do tech stuff so fewer are there and the quality is far lower).
This means many of our industries are ruined for generations, and many people now who have qualifications did not actually earn them and they have been utterly devalued.
It will literally take an entire generation to fix this problem, western countries will still be paying off this nonsense 30 years from now with people who have qualifications from prestigious universities and they are actually thick as sh**.

It's real time not turn-based I think. Which is a bonus point for me personally. I very much prefer real time or real time with pause in strategy/tactics games.
It's real time but more of a cross between XCOM 2, Darkest Dungeon and Dead Space. You get the usual base upgrade, soldier upgrade and deployment of XCOM/2. Then you move around until they spotted you, ambush you or you shoot them and they start swamming on you. You could setup some sort of a killing ground but you still have to pack up and hide as they get very relentless. Then you have to manage your stress level or send your best people to the loonie bin for a while.
on DEI, I don't know. As a gamer, I don't think people care as long as they get good games. For some stupid reasons DEI just push ugly people into characters in game. I don't get it. I want hot boobies to bone but I get ugly fatsos or something in the game.
At some point, none of my games got hot females! The only one that was pretty much with nice boobies was some boob shooter called League of Maidens
Wait, there was this game called Othercide which is pretty good imo. Nice story and really cool combat with really nice art style.

Viciouss: BioWare/EA killed it with Veilguard, broke records, EA is overjoyed with how well it did (inb4: "I never said that", no you never said those exact words ad-verbatim, you stated and repeated this sentiment many times in various other words, I am generalizing)
Reality: Quote: In the announcement email, Miele said that these layoffs are part of an effort to “sharpen [EA’s] focus and put [EA’s] creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.” She added that, like EA’s previous layoffs, these decisions didn’t come lightly and that EA is actively working to support the affected employees, including helping them find new jobs at the company.
Miele also stated that EA is refocusing its efforts towards a small handful of proven franchises like Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends. That being said, she reassured that EA will continue to support EA Motive’s Iron Man game, Respawn’s third Star Wars: Jedi title, and BioWare’s next Mass Effect game. However, Cliffhanger Games is no more, and its would-be Black Panther game now joins Monolith’s Wonder Woman as a promising superhero game that fans will unfortunately never get to play.

Great, another EA game cancelled. Maybe they will just close their doors next.
Also, I see no one has missed anything for the last couple of pages in this thread. Just mindless drivel about the DEI boogeyman.

It's not just you, new games definitely do suck, there is no ending, just grind, you can grind faster with $, but there is no conclusion, it's just all massive cash grab/gacha with unending saccharine. It's engineered these day to be this way, glamor packs for sale, DLC for sale, basically it boils down to extracting as much currency as they possibly can whilst feeding you (the player) as minimally as possible compared to how much real life dollars you feed it. Capitalism in its most purest form. Only the primal internet itself could provide such a raw opportunity for pure profit.

EA execs probably showed up for a glimpse of how the game is doing, saw more rainbow colored hair than natural hair colors among the dev team, overheard some of the dev's talking about making T'Challa a trans boss ***, saw concept art making Shuri a 280 pound female (muscle or fat, the concept art went both ways, cause inclusion), they all stepped outside and had their moment of reflection:
Then they all gave each other "the look" (when no words are spoken but everyones locked in on the same train of thought) and decided they had to pull the plug before more money is burned.
The above is pure speculation of course.

In more relevant news, the Monster Hunter x Street Fighter crossover event started last night. They added Akuma as a free playable skin with his own punching moveset. It's fun. That's the end of the positives.
The lack of a female playable character is noticeable. Like...you have a whole roster, just one of each gender. Not rocket science.
You can buy a Chun-Li skin for Alma for 6 bucks. Or you can buy a Cammy skin for Alma for 6 bucks. Sold separately. You can also buy a Palico skin for I think 3 dollars. As well as other accessories. It's all paid cosmetics. Literally go *** yourselves Capcom.
They also added more rank 8 monsters. They are beefier in health, they hit a little bit harder, but overall it's not a big deal. They have the same movesets, so if you have been playing the game long enough to get rank 8 weapons and armor, nothing to see here.
The most amusing thing is they added rank 8 tempered Rey Dau after running an Arch Tempered Rey Dau event that we all sweated it out for an A rank. That dude had enhanced attacks in the form of lightning blasts that followed every single normal attack. Know what rank 8 Rey Dau doesn't have? Enhanced attacks. So he just kinda dies.
Next update is 2 months away. Yay.

EA is like the Deep Roads. That's where great Grey Wardens went to die. Great studios also die with EA.
What happened to Red Alert, C&C, Dragon Age Origins, Battlefield 1942, Baldur's gate, Neverwinter Nights, SimCity???? Now we get are some stupid sports gambling, PG13 Dragon Age (hello? Dark Fantasy? No? It's rainbows and hopes now!), cash grab game with endless DLC...
They made Soviet Ruissa sexy in my book!!! Now they are trying to sell pachinko machines.
Don't even mention Capcom. This guy couldn't make enough money to pay rent so they tried to pawn off a broken game to PC. Monster Hunter could use some extra time to iron out the kinks but they released it anyway and screwed the PC which is half of the US market. Now they try to sell skins as a cash grab to make up for this year potential losses.

Expecting equal talent from a pool that's 1/10 the size is silly; that's equivalent to claiming all women and minorities are inherently better than white men.
Well the folks behind "The Message" do act like they believe that.

this is pretty good imo, over the top VAs and funny quests are just some of the good things I've seen. if you want a game that doesn't take itself too seriously you might enjoy this.

Isn't this game based on a board game with the same name?
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/264220/tainted-grail-the-fall-of-avalon
I got really into board games some time ago and as I search for rpg style board games Tainted Grail is constantly brought up being one of the best in the board game community.
That being said, I was hoping a digital version of the board game like Dune Imperium, Terraforming Mars or Twilight struggle, ideally with a local or online multiplayer so I can play with friends. One of the advantage of digital board game is saving space.
This looks like a lower budget Skyrim arpg, not a digital board game. which is a disappointing direction in my eyes....;( Dev should release the digital board game version for us board game fans too! ;<

Have you found any recent ones that are better than settlers of catan?

Have you found any recent ones that are better than settlers of catan?
"Better" is a subjective term. catan sold pretty well, but I don't really have any interest in it, it feels a bit too.... mainstream? Lol. I've noticed mainstream board games with "casual appeal" like Monopoly or Risk is generally ranked pretty low on boardgame geek website. I guess us nerds like niche and complicated games more than mainstream games.
One cool board game that I played some time ago was Twilight Struggle. Basically you play as US or USSR during cold war 1945-1989, attempting to become the only superpower nation that conquered the world(literally). You must spend resources (money) to buy influence in different countries, or attempt coup so you gain influence in those countries. Or spend resources on space race to the moon.
Some countries like UK or Japan are very stable, so they are more expensive to gain influence or attempt Coup with money. Many small countries in Africa are much easier to gain influence via paying them or coup.
In this game it's very hard to gain overwhelming advantage in the whole world. Most of the time you gain small advantage in one region but your backyard will be on fire as opponents took them. Some countries are inherently more important due to their geography location or unique advantages. So knowing how to spend resources wisely is key to win.
Overall this game did a pretty good job teaching the player the core concept of geopolitics. I can never remember the location of countless countries in Europe, central/South America and Africa. I finally remember them after playing the game. I wish I played the game in high school so I don't struggle with geography exams /laugh.
I also played Bloodborne the card game and Dune House secret recently. Though I kinda played them because of IP lol.
There are around 3-5 other board games on my to-buy list, that includes Fallout and Resident Evil the Boardgame, Arkham horror LCG and Legacy of Dragonholt. I'll see if they are good once I got them.

Also never play monoply with communists. Its not they are good or bad at it, its the lectures on Marx during the play of the game.

Some games are pretty popular in the edgy community.
Isn't that one of Gen Urobuchi's early work? His story has always been pretty edgy. Though his edgy-ness toned down a little as he got older.
I would probably like his style when I was a teenager. Now I read his early stories like Saya no Uta my reaction was pretty much "huh duh this is so edgy, this is probably written by a teenager" lol.
Either way, his edgy-style story clearly had a market, at least a few years ago it was the case that is.

I've read about the story of this game was made by a left wing activist woman in 1904 to preach anti-capitalism ideology. (In other words, it was a "woke" game from the last century.)
Then someone else used the mechanics to create Monopoly and Parker Brothers brought the right and mass produce/commercialize this game and made a bunch of money. While the original designer didn't get a cut.
So I can see why Marxists will have problems with it. Not just because of the theme of this game, but also the history lol.

nightreign has really strong player numbers but also very mixed reviews. I personally think the game has/had tons of potential, but ultimately falls short for a number of reasons.

I think the biggest complaints I saw are are:
SoulsBorne is a single player PvE game. Now, I dont entirely get that because you CAN summon in help in SoulsBorne making it a multiplayer PvE. I've heard these bosses though are actually tuned to having three people, so its a stark difference and people flying solo are having a really really bad time.
Theres no built in in-game communication. For a multiplayer game, this is extremely important.

Nightreign really feels like a cheap cash grab. Rush something through using a popular IP for a product no one asked for.
Was there ever any demand for “Elden Ring, but party based?”

Its june 2nd
Ubisoft hasnt changed to their pride month icon
And rainbow6 (ubisoft owner IP) put out a tweet how June is mens mental awareness month
https://x.com/rainbow6game/status/1929213857844666781
Ubisoft finally getting the picture that pandering to the 1% is a waste of money. Its only cost them a couple billion dollars though.
Bioware and EA also havent changed their icons either, probably still pissed over how much Vanguard cost them by pandering to that group.
A beautiful return to normalcy.
So... I have been increasingly frustrated with new games over years. I feel like so much effort it placed on graphics, lighting, art style, ect and maybe 10% of that effort is placed into gameplay, controls, and story.
My latest purchase was Visions of Mana, which I was pretty excited for. Secret of Mana is in my top 5 all time, I've played Seiken Densetsu 3 translated and while I didn't think it was as good as Secret of Mana, it was still extremely enjoyable. I skipped Trials of Mana since I had already played Seiken Densetsu 3. Vision is just bad. The english voice acting was awful, the characters were bland/generic or just stupid, and I was 3hrs into the game and all I was doing to running 30seconds between CS. Felt like a slightly interactive shitty anime.
Hogwarts Legacy, Visions of Mana, Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield... I felt like all of these super hyped games were absolute duds. Final Fantasy 16 is coming to PC in a few weeks and I'm not sure if I even want to try it anymore. I've heard people say not great things about it.
I know I'm just venting a bit here, but it really sucks being excited for a new game and then the crushing disappointment when it's not fun.
