I think its more likely some rich guy who look for a shady doctor, that agree with morally questionable procedures, decide to do the surgery of race change.

You pay upfront 50M gils, then the doctor take you to his clinic, in an shady alley in Lower Jeuno.

Then he applies anesthesia on you and start his procedure. But the anesthesia is too strong and you end up fainting in the place.

Next day you wake up in a bathtub.

You are alone, there is no signs of the doctor or the mithra that was the nurse.

Then you notice that youre covered with ice mixed with blood. And the blood is flowing from your belly!

OH MY GOD! They took your kidney!!!

Then you starts crying in pain and despair, then you see a mirror, and the truth slaps harshly in your face.

You are still a stinking galka as before. But now youre 50M poorer and without one kidney.

Thats what you get for trying to refuse Altana's will!

This is like when the government offered the mutant Gene Cure in X-Men 2.

They will probably charge for this service. Not expecting it to be an easy thing that players can do whenever they feel like it.

I hope SE adds 1 or 2 new faces/hair-colors to the list.

100%, it will definitely be an additional revenue feature much like wardrobes. Zero chance they won't try and make some revenue off of it.

I think using this as a service to earn more cash is totally legit and honest business but….

I want them to charge for it, cause I want to do it as much as I feel like. If it's free they will make it insanely obnoxious to get, like making players get master rank 6 or something, and even then you only get one single change per character or once a year.

Also they are obviously dragging it out on purpose cause they know people want it, it's been finished for months.

I'm not normally one to promote cheating but you know you can log in right now and use dress-up to change yourself into a blonde pigtailed mithra, right? At least on your screen which, I assume (possibly incorrectly), is the important part.

If you specifically want others to see you as a blonde pigtailed mithra, you'll have to wait for the update. I'm sure it's coming any day now

This has been ready to ship for months, they are just holding it back to spread stuff out more across the year. I forgot where he said it, but the reason they gave for finally adding it was gender identity stuff for western players (so you know the higher ups only funded it cause of that)

Makes me wonder if you are for instance a Mithra and want to change to male elvaan like me for instance
Wedding rings are male and female specific
So you won't be able to wear the wedding ring anymore
But you could dbox or trade or bazaar
So another char could wear or place in bazaar for showing it

Just make a new character and do stuff again. FFXI isn't getting much newer content. Honestly, I've never really been interested in the race change system. Just a random dude necrobumped that old thread from OF.

I had like 8 mules all level 99 and all crafts above 90-100 except Synergy.

They will probably have an npc to change those items. Like that moogle they still have around every town that "fixes" some scythe

I thought of something funny earlier.

It's entirely possible, the new menu options will say gender instead of sex, and identity instead of race (I don't care, but it would still be funny). They did both of these in the Obliv remake recently.

If they do this, it won't because the developers thought of it or cause the players want it. It would be becasue Square Enix has an ethics dept.

I doubt they will cause XI doesn't get the kind of attention where it would be on the mind of the executives, but it's still entirely possible.
