You would have to be doing all kinds of mental gymnastics to believe there was 0 ad push, 0 fake buffed numbers, 0 shady dealings behind the scenes. Give me a break, just ask yourself why literally every single private server before this one had nowhere near the "success"? Examine all the factors and put aside your dumb "these boomer XI diehards trying to convince me of their crazy theories."
I find it incredible people are so easily led like sheep, lol. Why weren't you so diehard about every other private server before this? Like this is something new and exciting, its the same ***from previous iterations. The same EXPing as content, the same forced fake interactions and "nostalgia feels." It's honestly so weird and dystopian that people are so easily controlled. It is literally in your face across any XI media you come across, the advertising was stronger when it first came out but you can see how well their marketing worked. Then you should ask yourself why would they need marketing in the first place? Then you can start to see the shady things going on, like the fact theres gil/account sellers for a private server.
The amount of "streamers" they have had for this server, I have been around the XI social media scenes for decades and never even in XIs prime has it seen as much streamers and wannabe influencers. Youtube was def around in its prime, and it barely touched what they pushed across the last year lol. You would have to be willingly blind to the obvious to not see similarities and think something is suspect.

Countless channels with the same style and setup of "influencer/streamer" with all thier social medias linked. For a 20 year old game format... give me a break lol. Where were they for the previous private servers, many of which are still running? Those are just the few that popped into my feed recently, but since this whole thing took off I remember so many of these people streaming in the same format.

Woah dude it's almost as if encouraging it makes people more likely to produce content!
Also I notice you started hiding your post count now lmao

so you aren't offended by "FFXI iron mode challenge, this is the only fun way to play"?
In fact, that was my entire point. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people here when I say that if the HorizonXI community simply stuck to the HorizonXI community, we wouldn't care. They can post their own videos, stream their own content. That's fine. The problem is they don't understand boundaries.. absolutely wrong and we have 40+ pages in this subforum and countless other pages elsewhere of retail andys just dogging on 75 cap at any chance they can. this was happening before horizon was a twinkle in anyones eye and continues to ramp up as it continues to outshine retail.
it's honestly incredibly embarassing. i have never seen a playerbase as insecure as the retail ffxi playerbase
Ironic. The bootlicker guy has come full circle and is now the bootlicker.

"Please Lock this Thread"
Just means another one opens. Shouldn't even have closed the first one.
The three that got closed got closed for the same reasons any thread gets closed:
Two of those went on for a while and got closed when they had wandered WAY off topic and into "harassing individuals" which is always a thread's death sentence. The third was explicitly about buying accounts. None of those closures had anything to do with private servers, the same would have happened if they'd been about retail.
This one seems content to keep at the "you suck!" "nuh uh, YOU suck" slapfightery that everyone seems so eager to engage in, so whatever. Go nuts, kiddos.
Also I notice you started hiding your post count now lmao I regret adding that. I originally added it when Josiah had like eleventy billion posts and he asked me nicely about hiding it, but then he deleted and re-created anyway, so I should have just taken it out then.

I mean they stop for 10 seconds and open a new thread and start over. Did it really accomplish anything.
Sure, they notice that you noticed and cool it for a minute, but it doesn't stop, just temporary.

Sure, they notice that you noticed and cool it for a minute Very literally what I am trying to accomplish, yes. I'm a big dumb idiot, but even I know that online arguing stops for no one.
The momentary pause gives people a chance to tap out, or at least let things simmer down for a minute before people start crossing lines that get them banned.

Wait what, who cares if post counts are shown or not. You really think I "hid" it because I'm ashamed in front of a bunch of sock accounts? Lol, you underestimate how little i care about your opinion, I've been posting here a lot longer than most, including most mods.
It was pointless to show it as people like you kept using it in debates instead of the topic at hand and the option was there. Just one less thing to give you ammunition to derail threads. They get desperate and use any material available to devalue others opinions. It's sad how Eiryl is becoming more and more right about internet people lol.

Horizon XI players beaming with pride as they look at their forum contributions

4/6 of the threads were opened by retail players.
Of those locked, 1/3 were opened by a horizon player.
Who’re the REAL bad guys? Lol The threads werent locked until the Horizon stans got butthurt about their precious poverty server being dragged and started with the attacks on the posters.
Retail players are civil.

Also megalols @ Jessikah once again crying about people mentioning Horizon and claiming that someone saying "try Horizon" means that it's impossible to not cry endlessly about Horizon. In a vacuum, you're right, it's absolutely absurd. But in my experience, I can't go anywhere FFXI related without posts like that popping up. I can only roll my eyes and ignore it so many times before it starts getting under my skin. Every stream, every YouTube video, every social media entity, official or otherwise.
I was watching a stream the other day when someone came in and asked "Hey what server is this?", to which the streamer replied "This is Bahamut".
"You should play Horizon. You don't need Trusts because there are so many real players."
"I've tried Horizon. I didn't like it. I don't play Thief or Beastmaster."
"LOL what did you get banned for RMT or something? Serves you right"
It's so annoying. It's so tedious. Having to see or engage in these discussions every single day because the HXI community can't just keep to themselves. Sometimes I try to just ignore it, but sometimes they'll just like follow you and stick to you, or egg you on. It's like a high school bully or really pushy salesperson.
Actually, speaking of bullying, I really appreciate being called out ad hominem like this. Thanks.

I stopped playing retail sometime after Dynamis Divergence for family reasons but reactivated retail a couple of years ago to try Odyssey. It's just grinding the same stuff repeatedly with a constant stream of RMT shouts that drowns out any sense of community. It no longer resembles a modern or classic MMO, which is fine. A game doesn't need to resemble another game to be fun. I didn't find it enjoyable, though. It felt very lonely and more like a single-player game.
Those are the most recent shouts on Asura. All of them are trying to sell or buy content. I liked retail during Dynamis Divergence, but Square Enix has not done well at curating their game.
People like Horizon because it's fun, it feels fresh, and there's a sense of community. Most of the player base doesn't do HNM or participate in the childlike drama it usually comes with. There's Limbus, Sea, Sky, Dynamis, BCNMS, and novel content like HENMs that you can do as a group that doesn't require sitting at your computer all day. The player base is also more diverse than other private servers. There are lots of normies on Horizon.
I understand being skeptical about private servers. I was unsure of the concept of a classic MMO until the success of WoW Classic. Despite being an old game, it felt fresher and more exciting than retail WoW, and it was a huge financial success, too. There are things about the private server that degrade the experience. Most people are not fans of Aerec, and there is seedy stuff going on in the background, although if you avoid focusing on that, you can have fun.

This has turned into an emotional street fight between Retail and Horizon.
As much as we love and support "Retail," the game must justify its existence and quality as a product in 2023 without us defending it like "babysitters."
FFXI-RETAIL must have its own arguments to defend itself, even if "hypothetically" the competition had an active marketing campaign
Why didn't Nasomi, Eden, and Wings cause the same drama as Horizon?
*Nasomi
When this server was at its peak, it reached 1250-1500 active players at night, but it didn't make a dent in Retail for this reason.
Retail had the 3 DLC areas: Escha Zi-Tah, Escha Ru'Aun, Reisenjima, and Unity at its peak, with content you could complete with 12 competent players, although you could bring 18 players without restrictions.
No one paid attention to Nasomi because Retail was a solid product with a lot of content. I remember how heated the debates were about REMAs, the best slot item. If someone mentioned the private server, no one paid attention.
The server died because Nasomi put a level sync limit of 10 levels and removed the ToAU expansion. T he reason he did this was that players only played in Valkum Dunes from level 10-50 and then from 50-75 in Wajaom Colibris. He couldn't recreate the era of 2004-2008 at all. There were players at level 70 in the "damn" dunes.
*EDEN
It came as an alternative to Nasomi without the aforementioned limitations, but people were already burnt out from the first one to commit again, even though it had peaks of 750-1000 at night.
This server didn't affect Retail at all because we had Omen, and many adjustments were made.
*Wings
When this server launched, during the Dynamis-D era, it had peaks of 1000 active players. However, Retail had its content, including the challenging Wave 3, leaving little attention for Wings.
For me, this private server was the best, being more casual-friendly with the signet buff and offering /DNC as a sub-job. Nevertheless, people were already fatigued from Nasomi/Eden to embark on the level 1-75 journey once again.
*Horizon
This server is gaining attention because:
Matsui and Fujiko decided to transform FFXI into a game for 6 people, a directive from higher-ups. Yoshi-P, heading Square's online games, observed a decline in FFXI players and ordered emulation of what he does in FFXIV with 8 people, simplifying it to six.
Unfortunately, Retail currently lacks the content to defend itself, leading us to act as babysitters. With only Sortie-Odyssey as the current events, many of us have been farming Escha, Reisejima, Unity, for almost a decade and we are done with dynamis d grind.
If Square Enix release three DLCs ala "Abyssea," simulating "Escha," content for 12 players and Dynamis Dreamlands, plus a new upgrade for REMAs, no one would have time to argue about Horizon.
We would be debating the best slot item and teasing Saevel by stating that Ukon > anything on War.

I know the usual idiots will cry "BUT MERCSSSS", but making all the current content fixed to 6 people is hurting things.

While I normally play on ASURA, I frequently return to Siren-Cerberus to visit friends. I only go back to ASURA when I want to create a new REMA or when there's an update to check that my endgame LS friends, whom I've known since 2007 and with whom I've shared almost a life, are doing well and have plans to replay the new content.
I remember that a few days before the twentieth anniversary, around ten of us returned to the LS hoping that SE would announce a DLC or content for more than 12 people. Even the leaders said, "Today is the day I've been online the most in the last year."
In Cerberus and Siren, the situation is similar to ASURA with RMT and mercenaries, albeit to a lesser extent. In fact, reluctantly I'll say it, but CAT-EYE, the private server, is the closest I've come to experiencing LV99 Abyssea, Voidwatch, Legion, Neo Dynamis, without RMT and Gil sellers. PS even if the server is lv75 capped
Please its fun let me read whoreizon stuff :( Please don't close threads like Horizon discord
