The fact is, most of us would happily just leave that entire community alone to their own devices. But they don't stick to their own devices. Any time there's a FFXI video or stream or social media post or anything, it's "Oh you're playing Retail? Y'know, you should play HorizonXI, it's way better!"

Thing is, I'm sure it works. It's like any cult, where population begets more population. It's everywhere, everyone talks about it, so it gradually wears down your willpower until you cave in to give it a shot. Is it actually a better experience?*** no. That's subjective. But the constant spam is obnoxious.

Yes, because there's a huge difference between posting a video on your own channel showing how much fun you're having playing the game your own way, and going into other peoples' videos and saying "don't play that, play this".

In fact, that was my entire point. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people here when I say that if the HorizonXI community simply stuck to the HorizonXI community, we wouldn't care. They can post their own videos, stream their own content. That's fine. The problem is they don't understand boundaries.

If Eden or Nasomi or Catseye players started going into every piece of XI-related content recruiting for their servers, we'd hate those just as much too. I'm sure people in those communities would hate the Retail community if anyone bothered going around promoting Retail in their communities too. It has nothing (or at least very little) to do with the server itself and everything to do with the relentless, cult-like promotion.

I don't think anyone cares about this type of 'promotion' or commenting outside of like 7 people on this forum. People play, they get excited, so they share their excitement and interests with others on people's content that's similar - it's not really that layered or sinister lol. I love FFXI, I've got over 1500 days played, a 20+yr old account and can honestly say this is the best game I've played since I've started - I get the emotional attachment. But some of y'all sound unhinged with these weird arguments, conspiracies and grandstanding over a 15$/month hobby.

You would have to be doing all kinds of mental gymnastics to believe there was 0 ad push, 0 fake buffed numbers, 0 shady dealings behind the scenes. Give me a break, just ask yourself why literally every single private server before this one had nowhere near the "success"? Examine all the factors and put aside your dumb "these boomer XI diehards trying to convince me of their crazy theories."

I find it incredible people are so easily led like sheep, lol. Why weren't you so diehard about every other private server before this? Like this is something new and exciting, its the same ***from previous iterations. The same EXPing as content, the same forced fake interactions and "nostalgia feels." It's honestly so weird and dystopian that people are so easily controlled. It is literally in your face across any XI media you come across, the advertising was stronger when it first came out but you can see how well their marketing worked. Then you should ask yourself why would they need marketing in the first place? Then you can start to see the shady things going on, like the fact theres gil/account sellers for a private server.

The amount of "streamers" they have had for this server, I have been around the XI social media scenes for decades and never even in XIs prime has it seen as much streamers and wannabe influencers. Youtube was def around in its prime, and it barely touched what they pushed across the last year lol. You would have to be willingly blind to the obvious to not see similarities and think something is suspect.

Countless channels with the same style and setup of "influencer/streamer" with all thier social medias linked. For a 20 year old game format... give me a break lol. Where were they for the previous private servers, many of which are still running? Those are just the few that popped into my feed recently, but since this whole thing took off I remember so many of these people streaming in the same format.

Nothing against him. He does what he does. YEARS AGO, I was told not to watch his videos for guides in XIV because they're 20-30 minutes for something that can be explained in 5-10 minutes.

People in XIV seem have mixed opinions about him.

He's fine. Like, XIV content creation is weird in the first place because the game is trying to be too many things to too many people. I don't really seek his or any of the others' stuff out, but YouTube likes to show it to me and occasionally I watch one.

His guides were kind of a mess, but that's true for basically everyone except Hector, and even he's got some duds in there.

MrHappy is alright as a video maker and such. Usually fairly friend towards other creators too. Generally credits other soloers or people who do certain challenges before him.

absolutely wrong and we have 40+ pages in this subforum and countless other pages elsewhere of retail andys just dogging on 75 cap at any chance they can. this was happening before horizon was a twinkle in anyones eye and continues to ramp up as it continues to outshine retail.

This is what always makes me laugh about you, you have literally been hating on retail for almost a decade now. How are you going to preach about how cringy retail players are when you have been literally hating on retail for a decade with your posts? It just doesn't make sense lol.

Also, how delusional are you to think private servers are ramping up to outshine retail? Retail still eclipses the population of any private server and those are people literally paying real money to play it. Its like you are thirsting for the day the game finally closes after a decade of anger, unreal lol. The obession with 75 cap was always really weird, it was not the pinnacle of game balance, it was not some magical formula of game design. It was just a time most of us were kids and experiencing it for the first time. None of those people are going to get that back, no matter how hard they force thesmelves with fake imiations. The cringe of them forcing interactions and "community spirit" "^-^ Hello party!" damn, it makes me cringe even now. Yet somehow those people who can't let that go and bop from p server to p server are in a better standing than an older crowd that knows what it likes in its hobby and enjoys it.

The real travesty is SE treating the game like crap, I will give you that. If retail had continuous content and expansions like most other MMOs, we wouldn't even be discussing this because people would be playing and not bored.

On the other hand, the players of a certain pirated server must be getting desperate to go into the "lol-retail" players' videos to advertise their server.

There's also something inherently shady about the volume and speed at which these Horizon posts get made on XI content, and I think that's at least a part of why it gets under people's skin more than usual.

If you look at the accounts that often make those comments, they almost always follow the same naming convention (some sort of two word combo with numbers following it) and they are pretty much always just a blank youtube account with no videos or playlists if you actually go and look at their profile.

I was thinking about running a little testy-test after talking with Draylo in DMs. Maybe make a couple of XI-related Youtube videos, post them up for an hour or so and then delist them just to see what happens in the comments. :)

I dunno my dude, this feels like a stretch. They really don't have that many more streamers than Eden and Wings did back during their prime, at least not if you compare it to the amount of people who are playing. There's just more people playing now. By percentage I'd bet its about the same % of people who play on private servers are streaming though.

You made some valid points but I think they are sort of ruined by trying to make this sort of mental leap and it undermines your otherwise decent points.

4/6 of the threads were opened by retail players.

Of those locked, 1/3 were opened by a horizon player.
