Yeah because he kept going to various XI content and posting that in response to people saying they are interested in retail specifically. He was just being an ad mouthpiece. He actually did attack me too but I don't care to screenshot everything. The point in showing it was to prove that they are actually trying to recruit for it.

Somehow I suspect that very few, if any, people said they were actually interested in retail specifically. They probably said things like "I'm thinking about playing FFXI again", some dude said "Look into Horizon" and you immediately ***yourself and started flaming people.

Horizon somehow is weak and feeble and poses no threat to retail, but they're also using their power and money to organize mass shadow campaigns to push their server, but these shadow campaigns come in the form of random internet posters and no-name streamers.

I think the part about shady things going on is probably pretty valid, there are plenty of people in this thread alone who had brought it up. That isn't a coincidence.

Its hard to prove because how do you really go about proving that they paid a bunch of sketchy Indian companies to bot comments on Youtube? With that being said, anyone with a set of open eyes can look around and come to what most people would consider a pretty fair conclusion about that.

It's pretty subjective, but I'd say it is. Nobody likes spam. That's pretty much where my line of "Eh I don't like it" is drawn.

I actually don't think either one really sucks. Retail is just played out and doesn't have much of a future. It's kept largely afloat by loyalists and the sunk-cost crowd. Horizon is fun and fresh for now, but I don't think it'll have the legs to keep going either and many of the decline signs are already in place.

Folks like Draylo will gloat about retail outlasting Horizon, but back-by-billion-dollar-business retail beating out ran-by-amateur-volunteers Horizon isn't really an accomplishment.

Given that you ignore literally everything presented unless we have the damn exact receipts in front of you, what point is it in asking? Nobody is going to win anything here, but I think most with a brain can see the similarities and make conclusions. It does make it shady, especially when you have their staff saying there was no advertisement at all, which is a flat out lie even given the fact they had a millionare streamer supporting them. It is more of an annoyance overall in their comments across social media but to the larger picture it just shows what they are capable of.

Its obvious what an initial ad push backed with "streamers" (they are low sub count and view counts but they are pushing the server, probably some freelance hiring or signing up with that influencer program to ride "popularity" for profit) had helped the server build a population. You can debate the validity of the bots in inaccessible zones (btw how do you know they can directly manipulate the /sea all number? Didn't know you worked on private servers) but the ad push is obvious to almost anyone. All points to shady if you ask me. Now we can get into the fact theres gil sellers available there and accounts for sale... I don't care to dig deep into the rabbit hole, but acting like they aren't shady is being completely oblivious.

I won't gloat when it eventually goes down, I am only concerned in retails success. I didn't care about any other private server before this one and wont for the 100+ they make after it. I do find the obsessions w/that era eye roll worthy, but I am not here to stop peoples fun and forcing them to play retail.

Yes, that is part of advertising. No, I don't doubt that most major game companies have people on payroll pretending to be legitimate players for the sake of improving online perceptions. But, that doesn't make it less distasteful or dishonest.

I don't think many people are going to argue against the idea that discourse being shaped by companies is a bad thing, and I think most would have the same negative things to say if it came out that Draylo was a paid SE shill. (I don't think he is, he does it for free.)

I explained myself multiple times. Primarily they are actively trying to recruit people from retail to that ***server. There is a collab happening with XIV soon and people might be interested in trying out XI, which will help the actual game. Instead they could be persuaded to a freebie server which hurts XI. Its not hard to understand, you are just so jaded and have so much angst towards retail you probably want it to fail. Even one person who decides to try that trash over retail is a detriment in my book. So if my posts on youtube etc can help then I will continue it, if they can do it why can't I?


XI is not popular now or then and isn't for a private server. We all know that, its our game and we enjoyed it for what it was. So you aren't getting some massive shadow campaign, its scraping at the bottom of the barrel for whatever they can. Those streamers were incentivized somehow, probably not directly as we can see what a low following/view count they have. It's all part of a big fund that has an intention to boost the servers population to retain the players. You can debate on why but surely there is an incentive for it for those involved.

I don't shill for the company itself, they are horrible too. I have already said my opinion on them many times and how badly they've been treating the game lately. I do care about the game though, it means a lot to me and I still enjoy it. While I can acknowledge its in a lul due to SE, it doesn't erase all the enjoyment I've gotten from it or change my opinion in regards to the actual content and what it offers vs that private server. Some of these people are so jaded and burnt out that it actually influences their opinions on retail overall and they have this disdain for it. I have had this opinion on p servers since the topic first came up, never went on any crusade to shut them down but simply give my opinion like anyone else.
