Dumb idea I know: have we tried absolutely every silly /emote?
Sorry if this is a repeat idea.

idk.. if the seraph account was happening so frequently they just assumed it was easy and thought nothing of it... and if the 50% of a certain dmg is consistent, could be something like kill it more than 50% with magic WS dmg, bursts and SCs do not count. Feel like most people just try SC/burst mobs down. Might account for why it never happens. Id like to think it wouldn't just be light dmg though. They cant expect to lock these things behind only something 2-3 jobs can do. (OK yes I get it, it's SE, they could probably do that). But it sorta feels like it needs to be something that a mage or melee setup could consistently so. And yet something that isnt compatible with the way people have been killing it.
tbf our group hasnt been killing these at all for months. to the pt where random ppl who would join were stunned. But at stage 3 there's almost no point. Obv looking ahead they will become mandatory hence the need to figure them out.

Anyone tried getting all other chests first? Naaks, veela and blitz chest before ixion kill.
Also, could try killing one of each elemental before killing ixion
By klayy 2023-07-25 20:43:46
I know ive killed ixion a bunch of times with magic ws but im a cor so was always leaden AE leaden wf. Never seen a chest but SCs were also making up a good chunk of my dmg.
I feel like these objs cant be tied to too much other stuff. Like it cant be full clear the zone then... Gotta be something a pt could just show up and do provided they knew how.
By klayy 2023-07-25 21:14:33
eh tried a bunch of stuff. all leaden front, all leaden back, make sure ws killed. all wildfires front n back. not even getting muffins for killing now lol. no chests under any circumstances.
By Manque 2023-07-25 21:22:50
Given the amount of attention paid to the horse and not seeing any chest being pooped out, it seems the trigger might be something to do with other mobs or the area instead.
How about,
- kill 1 type of each elemental before killing Fetid Ixion
- kill elementals in certain order before killing Fetid Ixion
- something about the pixies as mentioned previously
etc.

This i agree with, whatever the mechanics is its probably something both a melee and mage setup should be able to do instead of bringing one single job in to get the proc. Reading another poster's post about the aura kinda makes me wonder, maybe someone should try killing it while it has that aura on. It also fits in to why a melee setup would be more likely to get the chest because TP feed is needed to make the Ixion do its TP move that gains its aura, rather than a MB group that kills it with 1 or 2 MB sequence. At this point I don't want to keep suggesting things we did and it dont work, so probably best to just keep trying things we don't normally do on it. Also to answear your question we DID assume it was a 100% chest pop because how easy it initially was. I think we felt the basement NMs were more like the Bhoot in C, we felt we just needed to kill them within 5 minutes of entering the zone and we'd get the chest to pop, because we just killed all the basememt NMs that way and it pop'd. But this was all within the first week of the Basement NMs and then we changed jobs to MB
By klayy 2023-07-25 22:00:29
idk.. reminds me a bit of the F bitzer chest tbh. We had a guy in our LS who got it every single time and couldn't understand why we didnt. He would always be BST or WHM and ... as we know now, always lockstyled full empy.
If yall were getting it every time i doubt its kill from front or back. Unfortunately, I was in full empy cuz I literally had just done the F chest so killing it in full empy aint it lol
By klayy 2023-07-25 22:05:56
I guess tomorrow I can try use seraph.
"Can only be used if you have Red Mage, Paladin, Blue Mage, Rune Fencer, Warrior, or Dark Knight as your main job or sub job."
I could just go WAR instead or sub WAR. Main issue I have that that though is your typical mage setup ... i mean i guess the RUN could do it but damn lol. That's a bit off the beaten path. And unless you're doing aminion and /DRK... COR typically doesnt sub any of that stuff.
I also wanted to actually see the flower chest but I kinda flubbed that. Wanted to stick her on august, then i disengaged to pull the mob I was gonna AE on. August dropped like a sack of potatoes. Then most of my other trusts did too. Eventually decided to wing out than die in there.
Feels like flower ppl agree on but we literally never kill her so wanted to see.
Still feel like botulus isnt entirely nailed down. But we dont kill that too often either lol. Probably should but meh. On the occasions that we do, merely everyone tagging it and kill shot/most dmg from behind is not 100%. There is another detail (which tbh seems kinda bs lol unless the missing wrinkle is in fact the only wrinkle and the other stuff we're just wrong about.

Thanks for the info btw. Someone noted later on in the thread that it's possible the chest pop mechanics were changed for him. However, now I'm curious if enlight damage on him might work too... ygnas trust or pld enlight II? This is very possible too, just like they changed the Bhoot box Timmer from entering the zone from 3 minutes to 5 minutes I think, and never mentioned it in any notes or patches, it's very possible they changed the Ixion's pop mechanics too. And yes I used Enlight II when I fought it with my group.

kinda dumb ? but if you successfully get box off any basement NM and want to reset it for further testing... can u at least get the box again or is it basically one and done when trying to isolate what exactly makes these work? Feel like its one and done.

I tried using Seraph Blade and Tachi:Koki. The WS did terrible damage and it took a really long time to kill so I had to swap to other WS because my trusts all died. I can't rule out that the WS had to do a specific amount of damage or % of its health but I've used them at least 10 times against the same Ixion.

You can only get the chest once. Re-spawning is useful if you fouled up and *didn't* get a chest. . . but once you get the chest, that's it for the run.
By klayy 2023-07-26 03:22:26
yeah that was my understanding. They should fix that too. Like we've had an issue once or twice where someone dced right as a shard box was opened and that's literally that.
I'd be interested in trying to isolate which one of the 3-4 botulus kill criteria we're adhering to is the actual one. I just dont believe it's kill from behind and do 50% of dmg from behind and all tag and all be within 10 yalms and also maybe someone has hate for 30 secs. There's no way it's all of them.
I know I've seen it fail with a leaden kill shot from behind. I want to say I've seen everyone tagging fail. I definitely know when I was like "oh let me SC it on SCH" that was like auto fail lol. But yeah, would take a little while to isolate it maybe. I feel like the 10 yalms thing would be an absolute pain for a solo or duo with trusts.
We typically try have the RUN get hate, everyone else behind, all tag.. and at some pt when it gets to be low %, we try have a leaden kill. idr if I've seen it work when the SC dmg kills it. But there's elements of all those criteria jumbled into that. And it's not 100%.
I mean people say the naraka is 50%+ direct dmg while the flower is 50% indirect. If that's actually true then maybe botulus and ixion have a similar relationship.

I want to say I've seen everyone tagging fail. When we usually kill it with a trust tank holding it and COR Leadening from behind, I don't bother tagging it with my BRD but the chest drops without fail. All characters are usually within range (15ish or lower).

Botulus is nailed down, over 50% non-spell damage from behind. It's super easy to test and reproduce. Ixion is likely just bugged and not obtainable or someone somewhere would of tripped over it already.

While on one hand I agree with the feeling of "someone would've stumbled on it by now", on the other hand some people reported to have obtained the chest.
Furthermore, SE's eyes are all on Sortie now, especially after the drama following the Stage 4 thing.
Pretty confident they would've noticed if there was a bug on Ixion.
This leads me to think that, ultimately, Ixion is not bugged but just has an unusual condition to make the chest happen.

The single report was an account with 1 post and zero other information since. I can create a throwaway account and say I got it from cheering during SCs. SE isn't bothering with Sortie unless the house is on fire, the devs have other more pressing projects. Lots of stuff is likely bugged and we just ignore it entirely. Like I said someone would of already tripped over it, told friends who reproduced it and we would have a vaguely working strat already.

There have been two reports afaik, from two different people.
We can trust them or we could think they're giving us wrong info. Maybe willingly, or maybe in good faith.
Regardless of that I still think with all the fuss going on about Sortie SE would likely have noticed that nobody is being able to get Gartell's Metal.
By zixxer 2023-07-26 05:22:40
Tried Ixion tonight.
Had someone throwing 6 pebbles at it, lol.
At least 12 debuffs on it, including impact.
Multiple Seraph blades was used.
Used dia, holy2.
No chest.

Who exactly is "them", which server and where is their posts discussing what they did or what happened? Exactly, it's folks trolling the community and laughing about it. How many report's now of "err seraph blade, enfeebles and nada". Guess we aren't pressing the WS macro the right way.
Oh and SE dev team discussing sortie subboss methods.

I dont know if anyone has tried this or not but maybe Magic crits?
I tried the other day with magic crits but we ran out of time and just had to kill it, I only did maybe 5 crits and only water element, maybe "X amount of magic crits" or "X amount of magic crit damage" or element? Not sure but I havnt had time to go back in and do more testing. (no chest on my attempt)
By Shichishito 2023-07-26 10:25:07
maybe it's not light damage but blocking related since university mentioned his group previously had a PLD in his setup and later switched to RUN?
By Taint 2023-07-26 11:32:40
Forcing PLD would make the chest useless and slow the runs down further than skipping.
I’m starting to think it’s mob (kill all or kill near)or location related.
By Shichishito 2023-07-26 11:57:07
On sacro bulwark, adapa and genmei shield alone are ~12 different jobs other than PLD, it definitely would be quicker on PLD but that condition is far from forcing you to bring one.

Yeah I thought of that but those jobs keeping hate for the blocks is the problem while racing against the clock to fit F into your rotation with Metal.

Menial task for war and war is in 100% of melee runs.
It's certainly not the objective so pointless anyway. Zero of the objectives are defensive in nature.

I had a revelation last night. What if Ixion from historical greek mythology has the actual hint/ answer to proccing Ixion? See below post copy and pasted from wikipedia and my guesses at possible Ixion proc:
Ixion married Dia,[1] a daughter of Deioneus (or Eioneus), and promised his father-in-law a valuable present. However, he did not pay the bride price, so Deioneus stole [2] some of Ixion's horses in retaliation. Ixion concealed his resentment and invited his father-in-law to a feast at Larissa. When Deioneus arrived, Ixion pushed him into a bed of burning coals and wood [3]. These circumstances are secondary to the fact of Ixion's primordial act of murder; it could be accounted for quite differently: in the Greek Anthology (iii.12), among a collection of inscriptions from a temple in Cyzicus, is an epigrammatic description of Ixion slaying Phorbas and Polymelos, who had slain his mother, Megara, the "great one".
Ixion went mad, defiled by his act; the neighboring princes were so offended by this act of treachery and violation of xenia that they refused to perform the rituals that would cleanse Ixion of his guilt (see catharsis)[4]. Thereafter, Ixion lived as an outlaw and was shunned. By killing his father-in-law, Ixion was reckoned the first man guilty of kin-slaying in Greek mythology.
This act alone would warrant Ixion a terrible punishment, but Zeus took pity on Ixion and brought him to Olympus and introduced him at the table of the gods. Instead of being grateful, Ixion grew lustful for Hera, Zeus's wife, a further violation of guest–host relations. Zeus found out about his intentions and made a cloud in the shape of Hera, which became known as Nephele (from nephos "cloud") and tricked Ixion into coupling with it. From the union of Ixion and the false-Hera cloud came Imbros or Centauros, who mated with the Magnesian mares on Mount Pelion, Pindar told, engendering the race of Centaurs, who are called the Ixionidae from their descent.
Ixion was expelled from Olympus and blasted with a thunderbolt [5]. Zeus ordered Hermes to bind Ixion to a winged fiery wheel [6] [7] that was always spinning. Therefore, Ixion was bound to a burning solar wheel for all eternity, at first spinning across the heavens, but in later myth transferred to Tartarus [8]. Only when Orpheus [9] played his lyre during his trip to the Underworld to rescue Eurydice did it stop for a while [10][11].
[1] Cast Dia on Ixion (Dia 1? Dia 2? Light Shot?)
[2] Steal, Mug, or Despoil the Horse?
[3] Craft near Ixion... so he can be pushed in?
[4] Cast onto Ixion, Cure, Erase, Viruna, Esuna, Holy, Holy II?
[5] Have a BLU use Thunderbolt (Learned from behemoth) on Ixion
[6] Cast the elemental wheel in order on Ixion starting with Fire (Fire > Water > Thunder > Earth > Wind > Ice)
[7] Cast the elemental wheel in order on Ixion ending with Fire
(Water > Thunder > Earth > Wind > Ice > Fire)
[8] Cast Banish on Ixion to banish him to Tartarus...
[9] Equip an Orpheus Sash While playing a harp song near Ixion
[10] Sing a song while engaged on Ixion using a harp
[11] Sing a song debuff on Ixion using a harp
Please let one of the above memes actually be the answer.
Happy (proc) hunting
