Looking for a NA server that isn't Asura or Levi
By azmura 2023-06-10 21:58:15
Me and one of my friends are looking into playing again. We currently are on Leviathan and are thinking about moving. We want to move to a more populated NA server that isn't Asura or leviathan. Does anyone have suggestions?

The only Non-Asuran server I’ve loosely heard to have a NA population is Bahamut iirc? I’m hardly a reliable source on the matter though.

Not sure what you think you really avoid by not playing on asura, other than an active population/economy. Guess CP bots but I can't imagine bahamut doesn't have those.
Bahamut is the second most populated server I believe, how much of it is JP I'm not sure tho.

All non asuran are welcomed to be blessed by our lord and saviour Bahamut. Asuran must be clensed by gigaflare first.

Not sure what you think you really avoid by not playing on asura depression and self-loathing are two things that can be avoided by not playing on asura.

Asura felt like it was 70% mercenaries selling content and 29% bots. Also when I did find groups to play with most of the time they didn't want me because I didn't have Idris on my geo at that time even though I had all of the indi and geo spells plus 900 skill. So it just felt like a extremely toxic server and full of elitism. I'm sure I'm wrong about the percents but that's why I went to levi. Not sure what you think you really avoid by not playing on asura depression and self-loathing are two things that can be avoided by not playing on asura.

Bahamut.
The history of Bahamut is basically a lot of people from Asura moved there to get away from the yell spam and merc culture. So it's bigger than most servers still but smaller than Asura.
The culture on Asura is totally different to any other server, Bahamut is more like Leviathan but with more people.

Unless you have a set group of people to fulfill your gaming needs asura really is the best option, Don't really get the hate.
Yell spam is like non existent if you actually use the term filter.
The only really annoying thing about the server is the amount of CP bots, which I'm sure exist on any other server that has even a hint of a playable population.
Que wait times no longer exist (outside of some omen card campaign windows for some reason), Constant pug yells for all types of content like sortie/ambu/ody goal/segment every day. A functional economy so you can sell your goods and find the things you want with no issue.
I get people wanting to continue playing with old friends/linkshells but for a newer player/fresh returning player there really is no better option, don't kid yourself.

Bahamut also have bot.
I have active account in Asura and Bahamut. Mostly English players. Not common to see JP shouts

Bahamut and Odin.
There aren’t many /yell for events in Bahamut. Join a good LS.
Used to be in Odin and are also populated.

With how easy it is to filter chat to your liking these days, even without addons now, I don't know why that's a discouraging factor for anyone looking at Asura.
If you want to PUG and meet people on a regular basis, choose Asura. If you want to do stuff exclusively with an LS, you can choose any server, including Asura.
If you want the most active AH, which people transfer to the server to make shopping trips for, choose Asura.
Queue times are non-existent. Bots are a fact of life on any server. I forget mercs exist half the time with my filters, and you certainly never need to ever pay any to progress.
In short, Asura's entirely what you make of it. Most people disclaiming it have little recent experience on it.

It's gotten "tolerable" due to multiple layers of yell filtering. But it's still a shithole and to say there is excessive botting everywhere is an understatement.
You can't go anywhere or do anything no matter where or when without finding some rando being there. You can't just go do anything. Constant struggle with some jizzweazel always being in the way.
You can't just show up for a quick glavoid popset farm and get on with your day or go knock out one quick einherjar or one fast ambuscade. There's always obstruction. Everything has an extra layer of garbage on it. Nuisances.

Asura is good if you want to see random people, it's good if you want to play solo and buy stuff from mercs, it's good if you want a random audience more open to pug in general.
It's not good if you have a group of friends or only really intend to play with your linkshell. It's not good if you prefer the community of normal servers.
Queue times are an issue, especially during prime. Omen during a campaign? forget about it.
It's harder to get stuff that's competitive, if you want to grind out an EMP good luck with that. I literally just swap server for that and go back later when its done.
One of the problems with Asura is people tend to get a weird seller mentality locked in their heads, and refuse to set anything up or do anything or give anything away cause they can sell it. Asura is probably the only server you would ever have some turkey trying to sell omen card runs. It's like that old granny that learned about Ebay and is now selling old flowerpots, bottles and her dead cats collar.

So you want to play a non-MMO like any multi-boxer.
or go knock out one quick einherjar or one fast ambuscade.
It takes like less than a minute to get into Einherjar, especially if you form a party with others waiting. Ambuscade generally has little-to-no queue anymore.
It's not good if you have a group of friends or only really intend to play with your linkshell. It's not good if you prefer the community of normal servers.
Why? I mostly play with my friends/linkshell. It's fine.
And as someone who's PUG'd extensively in their time, Asura very much has a real sense of community. It may be the "big city" of XI, but relatively speaking it's still a small town and you see the same faces everywhere.
Queue times are an issue, especially during prime. Omen during a campaign? forget about it.
No, they aren't. Odyssey literally never has a queue time. Sortie literally never has a queue time. Ambuscade rarely ever has much of a queue time, even during a hyper easy month like this (trust me I've been randomly popping in to solo VD for noobs). Omen during card campaign only has a queue time at specific hours these days, and not as long as it once was even then.
One of the problems with Asura is people tend to get a weird seller mentality locked in their heads, and refuse to set anything up or do anything or give anything away cause they can sell it. Anyone trying to sell stupid ***to take advantage of people gets justifiably heckled for it. I know any time I see some dipshit trying to sell common Crepuscular items, I offer them for free.
One literally never has to engage with the "merc culture" of Asura. There's tons of regular people.

I dunno what fantasy alternate reality you live in, unless you play at 4am or something

Do you even play on Asura anymore? lol. Because in the past month I've never had a queue for Odyssey or Sortie. It was only ever "bad" for brief periods when new tiers of the content released, and even then typically only during primetime.
The only time I've had >15s queues for Ambuscade this month has been the rare occasion where some party takes up the instance I'm assigned 5ever. (But even that can be solved by just requeueing.)
Omen also has had 0 queue outside of card campaign.
The only content I've had a substantial line for recently was the final VR battle, and only the morning of its release. There were 60 pages then. By that night? Single digits.
And no, this is any time afternoon to midnight. Not 4am.

People need to stop with this whole "Asura is too congested to get anything done" nonsense. Queue times have drastically gone down in all events since they first released. You only ever see queues when events are literally brand new. On the night of the final voracious story release there was about a 1 hour wait to get into the final battle for example. Today now... there's no line at all and anyone gets in instantly. I wait about 1 minute to enter seg farms or sortie, and I do both events around 6-8 pm eastern, which is plenty close to peak hours. Farming NMs for REMAs is also not an issue. I built both armageddon and gandiva over the past few months with no issues. If there were people camping nms I'd just come back later. It wasn't that hard to find windows where any of the camps were completely open.
If you want to play on a server with an active economy, and one that actually has materials on the auction house stocked then you should give asura a try. You can filter the shout logs, you can ignore the mercs, and you can socialize just fine. The community is pretty damn friendly and sociable too. I really don't get why people are so paranoid of moving here. I'd much rather play here than on a dead server. I left Fenrir in 2016 because it was a ghost town, and I have no regrets.

Asura is where all the toxic folk from small servers move to so they can be with other toxic folk and merc stuff.
Someone had to say it.
If you find a group you like playing with you can have a good time anywhere.
If you can't find a group to play with you.. maybe the problem isn't the server.

Asura really isn't that bad, I feel like the people ranting against Asura logged in once then transferred and keep repeating the same talking points.
The queues are basically nonexistent. I haven't waited more than 5-10 minutes max to get into Odyssey or Sortie in at least 6 months. The only content that had a queue of significance was the final VR content and by the next day we were going in almost immediately.
Admittedly, there was a brief period where getting into Odyssey was difficult with large page waits, but that was almost a year ago and hasn't been much of an issue. Even when v25 had just released, I don't recall the queues being that significant in the first few weeks, when we did t1/t2 we were going in almost right away and that was in the 2-3 weeks after it came out.
Also, you can't really complain about people being elitist when they expect you to have the gear required for the content. Idk what you were doing, but Idris is a requirement for some content, so it's not elitist to expect players to have it, it's just a basic requirement for the job in some content.

This was ultimately the reason I started looking for a solid LS on another server. The merc culture is pervasive and warps perceptions. Not everyone succumbs, but it seemed most did to me.
That being said if I found the LS I wanted on Asura I may have stayed. It has some positives.

If you just want populated, to answer your question to the letter, Bahamut; it's been covered.
Find the LS you want and go to that server is my suggestion. Dig in some old posts here or elsewhere, send some messages, see what sticks. Bahamut is a likely candidate but I've been told it's becoming Asura Lite over time.
Another semi-relevant thought: Anyone unafraid to build groups and start things will likely be successful compared to someone who waits around hoping, and I'm pretty sure this is true regardless of server, LS or not.
Good luck! Let us know what you figure out.

Asura will be the only server left standing eventually. Many servers are already zombies to say the least, dead but still going.
Want an active AH/economy? Asura
Want a large population to PUG with? Asura
Want to feel like you're actually playing an MMO and not a single player game? Asura
Complaining about mercs/RMT shouts is silly. You can filter those easily. The only valid complaint is the amount of CP/EP bots.
The only queue times are during peak hours AND card campaign for Omen and oddly the Selbina crystal for Lilith. Never a wait for Ody/Sortie.
Looks like half of the negative comments about Asura are actually about the MMO genre itself. Many of you should probably be playing Skyrim or some other single player/co-op game.

This is pretty much my experience too, I've not really experienced any queues outside of that TVR queue you mentioned, most stuff is pretty much instant pop.

I guess i'm just the unluckiest boy on earth then. On the random chance i bother to do something i'm sitting there for 20 minutes with my *** in my hand waiting for 50 soloers.

I would very much disagree with this statement. Trying to do ambuscade as a new player and so on? Don't have Idris no thank you. What is perfectly fine it's their group but that felt like the mind set on that server. Like I said I'm sure asura has good people as I was able to find some one to show me around and I still talk to them. But as a new player my first few months were not enjoyable over there. I really don't want to get into a flame war of asura vs none-asura. I personally just didn't enjoy it. I was very lucky to find an amazing ls on levi but it's gone now.
