Just recently started playing again. I heard Sortie was a lot of fun, and now that I don't run one of those dirty private servers anymore I have a lot more free time on my hands.

Unfortunately I'm nowhere near geared enough to actually participate in Sortie since I'm like 15 years behind everybody else, but I still log in every day and grind away at various things and chat with a few friends. Its been pretty nice as a way to pass time in the evenings.

So did you get banned in Horizon too as well like me for abusing their stupid Systems for gill lol

Never bothered to play there. I don't really have any desire to play a Chains of Promathia server, I already did that once with pre-Eden. I also just assumed I was pre-banned before I even tried since the staff on Horizon used to be staff on my server, where they tried to hostile takeover the server, haha.

It's still amazing to me that one of the only now dedicated FFXI forums allows private server talk + unlimited trash talking about FFXI to your hearts utter content (even if you're trolling or pure hating), but if you say anything negative about ff16 in any way or 14 for that matter your post gets deleted.

Same grindy stuff each day made me realize all that I'm missing out on in irl, love the game, best I'll ever have had the opportunity to play. The new grind in sortie is something else. An insane and amazing project would be if they updated the game and built in quality of life features that we get with windower.

The other day I was thinking, Wouldn't if be awesome if SE just took what the corean company did with the Unreal Engine 5 remake of FF11 and just port it on PC?

A little of care of the engine and the "under the hood" elements of the game would not only be appreciated for any new player (looking at you Play Online) but also allows the devs to work with less effort to make new stuff.

Yes, a big chunk of the community would be mad, but I think that's the best not too expensive way to give more live to the game.

Now, tbf the man really good at his job, but I personally think he consents its community too much (I just recently unsubed FF14. I will come back in the next 2 big patches/expansion)

I've said this on more than one occasion and in more than one venue, but: this is not r/ffxi. People are going to talk about other things here! And that does include private servers, and other games. SHOCKINGLY it turns out that people who like FFXI often like other games made by Square-Enix. I don't know why this is such an impossible thing to reconcile for you, but every post you make is either bashing a game you haven't played, bashing people who play a game you don't like, or scrambling around for nails so you can hammer yourself back up on your favorite cross.

He didn't say people shouldn't talk about other games... he specifically mentioned if you say something negative about those games (like giving an opinion on how mid FF16 is) you get all the haters and in some cases moderated like you just did. Its ok for someone to be against the group think. Different perspectives make a forum more interesting as long as it doesn't get personal.

The main topic of discussion here is FFXI, sorry if that bothers you but it's the truth.

Private servers are only a negative for retail XI, that is something I don't agree should be discussed or promoted. That's my opinion anyway.

Also people repeat themselves over and over here on various threads, including the trolls/XI haters who seem to always get a pass.

You missed the point. RC didn't post FF16 opinion in a FF16 discussion thread. They posted same FF16 opinion in multiple discussions that are irrelevant to FF16. Some of the posts aren't even opinions, but unverified rumor targeting developers in the interview, stating speculation like facts.

If you dislike ff16 and feel like voicing the opinion, start a "I hate ff16!!!" Thread and post there. Why post in multiple threads irrelevant to ff16?

To get back on topic ^^;

Trying to get this game working on Linux with Lutris and Reshade made me ragequit for a while. When I'd switch Wine versions, the whole Wine prefix (basically, fake Windows environment) would implode and I'd have to reinstall the whole thing from scratch.
Thankfully I have the game in working order again, although Reshade still doesn't work as far as I know. Maybe I'll try vkBasalt next time.
Currently, life circumstances don't put me in an ideal position to get back to the game :v and I'd also like to finish the mithra textures before I resub.

As for being an FFXIAH lurker, it's because of threads like this :D and also the community here. Reading discussions about game and player history is super interesting as someone pretty fresh to the game. You're all also so much more chill, though when arguments show up they're quite fun to read (lol)

The UI of the forum is a lot less cluttered compared to a lot of other social media - I think someone else mentioned that in this thread. Modern social media is just so bloated-looking these days in the name of minimalism :(

Sorry, I didn't mean to cause all of this. :| I just ran one of the biggest private servers and that's what most people know me for if they recognize my name so its sort of an unavoidable topic for me anywhere I go in the XI-sphere. I'll try and avoid talking about it here if I can (cause I am legitimately just playing retail now, lol) but people are gonna bring it up sometimes I'm sure. Sorry in advance. :(

There was a group of players working on this for a while for VR, but like most community projects, people got bored/had conflicting opinions and as far as I know it fell apart.

I would actually love to see Square do this because I think this game has PERFECT pacing for Virtual Reality, but I won't get my hopes up. For now I'll just have to live with enjoying my homeworld in VR Chat being Ru'Lude Gardens.
