Seems like its plateaued at 21k for now. There will probably be jumps as people get home from school/work.

I am pretty impressed at this number tbh. Only 30% of people has beat Remake so Rebirth's sale should be naturally much lower since it's a sequel for those who has beat Remake. I was expecting something as low as 11k at launch lol.
I guess being goty nominee helps.

Reasons this game doesn't have many people playing:
a) already done on ps5
b) not a day one buy
c) waiting for discounts
d) censorship against teen tifa's outfit and adult swimsuits
e) it's 150+ gb and people have the slow internet
f) dei
g) disappointed fans waiting for all 3 parts to be released

A is very valid
B and C are essentially the same thing
D is invalid for PC version, you know modders are on that one
e is very valid
f is very valid
g isnt very valid imo. I cant imagine many people bought remake and then skipped rebirth waiting for the 3rd part. Theres probably a moderate chunk of people who got bamboozled expecting the full game, but not enough to make a difference. Though I'd say the people waiting for all 3 are likely part of the B/C group as well, as you can get remake/rebirth bundle at a discount.

There is only one real reason:
It's a 50-100 hour game that you need to spend another 30-50 hour for part one and invest god knows how many hours for part 3 just to read a story that can be done in 25 hour in 1997.
It's 2025, too many fast food entertainment that gives us instant gratification these days, nobody got time for 250 hour of padding and side quests and mini game just to read a story. You have to be a die hard jrpg fan to be able to tolerate a game pacing this slow. And die hard jrpg fan is a dying breed in 2025 anyways.

If I was in charge of Square I would announce a faithful remake of the original game after part 3 is done, where it will be 100% accurate to the original game and just with updated graphics and minor qol updates.
Many of the changes they made ruined the game, the story changes are utterly stupid, the censorship is dumb (they changed cid completely, they ruined the impact of the death scene), the amount of time it's taking to finish is utterly ridiculous, the gameplay / combat changes make it exhausting to play when it's so long.

The death scene aside, this game was really fun to play for me. I dont know why the felt the need to mess with that, but we knew it was coming I guess.

α) the people who loved FF7 are disillusioned with the situation of the current game market and their feeling that this is just a cash grab win over wanting to experience their old beloved with modern technology

I'm seeing people saying they will stay logged in while at work or asleep to help the steam numbers (this started with ff16), if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about how unpopular and crippled this franchise has become then I don't know what does. That they feel they need to do this is bad enough, that they are actively virtue signalling about doing it online to others says so much more about the state of the franchise.

And what makes you think a "faithful remake" of a 1997 jrpg will generate enough public interest to sustain a 5k employee company in 2025?
Fantasian's poor sale pretty much reflected the state of traditional jrpg in 90s style. And yet you still support this direction despite you bashed Fantasian' sales in other post. How ironic Lol.
Get real, most people these days would rather watch TikTok or other social media, or watch Netflix if they want some entertainment. If they are playing games they either play the same live service games that they played for years (like FF11, FF14, Fortnite, Genshin Impact, Minecraft or Apex etc), or play a fast paced dopamine rush
game like crafting/building/roguelike (Balatro is a good example, you can play it on mobile device for quick dopamine rush when you have short free time)
I bet most people who wants to "experience" an old game these days they just experience it on YouTube watching a let's play video and get it done.
How many 90s jrpg did you play and complete yourself in 2024? Or did you rather spend most of your free time watching streamers ***talk on YouTube than play 90s jrpg? Because we all know that it's more fun to watch streamers ***talk for entertainment than doing 100 same tedious random encounters in OG FF7 for hours right?
If you didn't spend that much time playing 90s jrpg in 2024 yourself, what makes you believe everyone else wants that for our entertainment?
Just let the glorious moment of 90s jrpg die already....vocal jrpg fans keep yelling for next traditional jrpg for them to re-experience their childhood, but there are no data to support these people are mainstream at all.

I'm not playing it because I wasn't stoked on the first one. I did like the world, art style, characters, story - it was great seeing all of that come together and I liked some of the sequences with all the characters, including some that were a little more sidelined in the original. I liked Dirge of Cerberus though so I generally will take any FF7 content that even shows the world and suck it down
I wasn't a fan of the combat and side quests/minigames though, especially the latter. It felt like doing chores, some of them added meaningfully to the worldbuilding, others didn't and I gather Rebirth has more of that from what I've read/heard. When it came out, it was hard for me to justify spending the time to play it knowing I was only doing it out of nostalgia
I'll play it eventually, but the first one was a "I'm taking time off work to play this" and this one is a "I'll get around to it at some point". At this point in my life I wake up and go from burnout to burnout until 9pm at which point I have the mental energy of a potato, so involving myself in a JRPG in a 40+ hour JRPG just isn't in the cards right now. With Ninja Gaiden 2: Black dropped yesterday, NG4 coming soon, the Doom prequel (which seems like a return to form like 2016 instead of Eternal), and still more BG3 playthroughs to do on top of PoE2 and Last Epoch resetting in 2 months - it's not really on my radar.

I preordered ps5 version and still haven't done anything past the first chapter. Enjoyed remake too, but just haven't had the urge to play rebirth yet. One day...
Totally agree about the minigames. To be fair though, the original had tons of dumb minigames too, so I know why they were included.

No reason to repeat yourself, troll. We have heard all of this nonsense before.
Valefor.Prothescar said: »They could also add other things like a turn based mode and a more faithful version at the end, it's easier to pander to the fans at the end when all the donkey work has been done and they have covered much of the cost of making them already.
There is no way they won't do this, they won't just release 3 parts and be done.

Go back to Reddit.

Exactly how I felt about Remake. I enjoyed cutscenes, acting and environment. The combat is also serviceable. Not my favorite battle system ever but it works.
But it's also 50 hour of my time spent on a story that's 4hr long in the OG, and I don't feel my time invested was worth it after it's done, because way too many content are irrelevant and they can be cut. FF7 part one should have been a 10-15 hr game at most.
When I hear Rebirth is 50-100 hr of open world adventure full of more side quests and mini games my first reaction was pretty much "ahhhhb"
I still purchased Rebirth as a FF fan to support FF anyways, but my desire to play it is quite low. But if I feel paying $50 to support FF is a more valuable investment than spending 100 hr of my life on it, then maybe SE needs to rethink what gamers really want in a fast paced entertainment environment like 2025.
I don't want a faithful remake of OG FF7 either. If I want to re-experience my childhood, YouTube let's play video with fast forward gets the ***done.
Just a tight, memorable narrative action experience that can be done in 10-20 like Resident Evil is all I wanted from the next FF, really.

I am hoping it's at least better than the garbage that was 16.
The story could have cooked longer.
Things they took the time to animate were a waste of money and effort.
The menus especially the victory menu was *** slow.
The walking was stupidly slow with a 5 second delay hard coded into the movement before sprint activated.
The combat was lack luster but interesting choices that could have been better with more play tests.
The giant avatar fights were cool, someone was a big Godzilla fan.
After a while both regular combat and avatar combat became stagnant and did not grow like a good game should.
Yoshi p made it too much like 14 and things just overall felt artificially longer than they needed to be. Like there was a mission to hit x amount of gameplay hours per segment.
Hopefully 16 was the b team and despite minigame madness I am going to start ff7 rebirth tonight with the expectation that it will be at least better than 16.
By Viciouss 2025-01-24 12:42:24
Rebirth is better than 16, hopefully you enjoy it. It slows down towards the end and I would say you don't have to 100% every zone. You can just move on and come back later. And then there is hard mode.

Guy said “go back to Reddit” lol
Reddit is the biggest cesspool of far left loonies. They want to blanket ban all twitter links, and anyone posting any opinion that lands to the right of center-left gets banned as well.
Probably the absolute stupidest insult to throw RAs way.
“Go back to twitter / fox /newsmax / Alex Jones / any right wing heavy media” would have been infinitely better, and he defaulted to the absolute worst choice possible.

/Shrug he is on the record in saying he spends his time there. Remember when he falsely announced that RuneScape had changed it's subscription model? Pretty sure he cited Reddit as his source. Either way, he needs to take his nonsense out of this thread dedicated to a game he hasn't played.

It peaked at 32k, so did pretty decent all things considered.

The sad part is that not only did Square Enix need to drop 30% off this incredibly expensive game to get these fairly unimpressive player numbers, but that Valve also takes 30% of that lower cut too.
This game should be doing Elden Ring numbers considering the budget and popularity of the original game, and even Dragon Age Veilguard beat it by a huge margin.

Peaked at 40k players over the weekend. Is this a good number? Hard to tell for a game thats a year old. Lets compare to other ps5 games that had a later release on PC
Ghost of Tsushima peaked at 77k
GoW peaked at 73k
Spiderman peaked at 66k
FF7: Rebirth peaked at 40.5k
HFW peaked at 40.4k
Last of Us Part 1 peaked at 36k
GoW: Ragnarok peaked at 35k
FF7: Remake Integrade peaked at 13k
Spiderman Miles Morales peaked at 13k
Returnal peaked at 6.6k
HZD paked at 2.5k (lol)
Its on the upper end of middle of the pack and it tripled the peak of Integrade. I wouldnt call it a rousing success, but based on the standards set by other games ported to PC, I'd call it a win. If their expectations were 100k+ when no PS exclusive ported to PC managed to crack 80k, thats an issue of their own delusions.

IMO It's a VERY good number considering the sales on PS5 isn't high and you need to beat Remake first to continue.
Many games that you listed above aren't a sequel that requires beating the first game to even get into the story. And the sequels number in your list dropped a *** ton compare with their prequels. So Rebirth has an inherent disadvantage and still performed better than remake and FF16 both.
Being nominated as goty and having very high review score probably helped.
Since the latest trailer just dropped, I figured I'd start a thread for Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth discussion leading up to its release in Early 2024. I will include trailers for both English and Japanese as there are often subtle differences between the footage for the two.
