»Another easy solution to why SE would divert people to AMAN Trove to get (intentionally) extremely rare drops: it doesn't cost you extra money to farm merits and enter a BCNM. It does cost you extra money to buy extra character slots or accounts for more AMAN orbs every month. And even if you personally aren't buying more characters to farm orbs, or you're buying orbs with gil: someone in the chain is.
FFXI has what I'd call a covert cash shop. You can't buy skins and mounts, but you can buy extra loot and access to more content.
If this was some evil genius move, they sure as hell wouldn't have ever stopped putting Empy items in monthly login points. I have 12 inactive same account mules (and another several on my alt) and I'd reactivate them all in a heartbeat at an extra $1/month to get login point Chloris Buds again. I want that officially sanctioned RMT activity back!
On a more minor note, Unity dial campaign was also great and is another reason I'd reactivate some mules (fishing for Tatenashi body). But alas, that's gone too. Probably because they added augments and want people to grind out the actual content. Too bad nobody will spam Tumult Curator with me lol.
They do seem to "alter" the keys drops whenever they feel like it. When dyna was new I got so. many. shards.
Absolutely, I had all my mules then and got so many shards/voids. And there was another month or so where I kept getting the WotG SCNM pop items, way too many to be coincidence (and doesn't happen any more).
