That is what it has become, mostly due to social media, IMO. The "left" in America used to be basically Libertarians, with the addition of an odd affection for big government. I was considered quite liberal in my youth (still am in my family) because being a liberal used to mean, "live and let live." Don't bother anyone, you do you, I'll do me, try to see the best in everything, love, light, knowledge, science....etc.

Now the left is angst, hate, division, stereotyping, gender denying, against free speech (unless they agree with it) and worst of all, the cancel culture. It's almost as if most liberals these days under 30 years old have absolutely no clue what a liberal was in even the early to mid 80's, let alone the '70s or '60s. Young liberals today are the Reagan Republicans of the 80s.

Giving it to the defense attorney is the same as public release in the same way anything given to house Democrats is for public release.

That's the same way I was. For years I considered myself "liberal" until I looked around one day and saw all those around me chanting hate slogans and casually talking about disposing of the US Constitution altogether in favor of something more "enlightened". I tried to argue against that and then I'm called all sorts of names and labels. Just for disagreeing.

Well, the speed at which social media has allowed people with insane ideologies to connect with one another and form cult-like followings has forced people (such as myself) to wake up to logic much faster than in the past.

Before it would take literally decades for cultural paradigms and mores to shift, now it takes the opinion of one person on a five minute video to pass around the world overnight. Then, every like minded lemming who wants to see truth in the statement because it agrees with their mental imagery latches onto it, adds their own version of it and it spreads like locust.

The irony of this is, unions are the prize pony of "the self-righteous, bloviated jerks."

You cannot compare an extremely large, extremely diverse country to others when saying, "Well x, y, z does this...why can't you?" The US's makeup is like no other country in the world.

Our country began having to use weapons to even survive against the tyranny of *cough* Britain *cough*. So, we had a start that was different than most and we are a very young country compared to most, so our beginnings lie during a time where firearms were prevalent.

I'm not a gun owner nor a fan of them, but you simply cannot get them away from criminals. If you outlaw guns here, make a law to confiscate guns, the ONLY people who will comply are the law abiding citizens who would have never used a gun in the first place for a criminal act. That's the part people can't seem to wrap their head around. Criminals will literally be the only ones with the guns. And if you are implying American's have no faith in one another....um, yeah? I have no faith in strangers of any country when it comes to my safety and that of my family. Criminals here don't give a *** about your life or mine.

What does racism have to do with guns?

Also, can you cut back on the ethnocentric bigotry? I'm not sure why, but for some reason anyone from another country on these forums can just make bigoted statements about America but if an American dare say something similar about another country, they are chastised for it.

Also, Australia and New Zealand don't come even close to the population of the US.

America's racist as ***. It's built on it. So are other countries.

Again, what does racism have to do with guns, which is what the discussion was.

Also, one of the many perks of being an American citizen is, our government doesn't stop anyone from relocating. As do other countries.

Here, when you get the time, watch these two videos by renowned economist and author, Thomas Sowell. He uses facts and logic to debunk many American assumptions about topics from systemic racism to gender wage gap, etc. He can explain things much better than I.

Whether your ideology makes you resist his facts or not, it's still an interesting listen.
