Hmmm. Got excited when I saw this, but it seems there is no relation to free-to-play. Not really sure why bg-wiki.com's main page is advertising this without an announcement I can find, but I'm guessing it's like Japanese FFXI Twitter or some recent streaming JP-only Q&A or something and will be in the "news" section of this site soon enough. Pity I resubbed at the first of the month, but wanted the cool Iron Giant mount.
 Can't wait to see the returning players complain that full 2,100 JP leech used to be 8m and now it's a 500 JP leech for 8m.

You're doing it so the game is there when you do want to play it. At the end of the day, these welcome home campaigns are run to bring people back. They do work, one brought me back 5-6 years ago and I've been subbed ever since. Friday, December 17, 2021, at 12:00 a.m. (PST) to Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at the same hour.
That's 19 days. That's pretty generous. I was expecting it to end on the 27th. Sorry for the bump, but this is official announcement and not speculation.

Someone probably told them that in certain parts of the world, people travel for a holiday around that time.
If you have one character activated and paid for do all of your other characters that lapsed inactive become able to be played when its free to play or do you have to be an entirely unsubscribed person?
your mules that aren't active will be free play when return to vanadiel starts.

Just got in on an alt. This is not a drill.
 Was testing my inactive account and it started downloading the update and login.
free login is fun because I get to see interesting alt names again!
 Ballista is back on the menu!

Looks like no early discounts yet, sadly. I didn't expect there to be, but checked anyway.
 Mine is telling me I need to reactivate my playonline service in order to log in :(
Sometimes it takes a bit for all accounts to have their... for lack of a better term... "switch flipped on" for free to play. Try again every few hours through today and tomorrow. If nothing happens by the end of the day tomorrow, post on here again.
I have thoughts as to why, but don't want to write them up if F2P just went live and not every inactive account is flipped to free mode yet. Lets gooooooooooo :D
Got a lot of my friends coming back for this! Hopefully they stay :) Is updating/downloading this game still painfully long?
