Seems like the Supreme Court is getting in on the pile on, as it just ruled against Trump ending DACA.

I mean, sorta. What they really said is "you can't end it like that".

A procedural objection, that's all.

The popular vote means nothing and polls mean even less. Somewhere below how little polls mean is what polls in June mean. I get why people would be excited/angry at this, but we still have two months before the conventions. Everyone needs to slow their roll.

Well it helps that he is cratering in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, the only 3 states Biden needs to flip.

Biden is indeed leading in those states according to the latest polls, but "cratering" is not a word I'd use. The latest polls have Penn and Arizona as highly competitive.

And anyone who says they know anything about how Florida is going to go is lying. Consider:

- Demographics skew older, which typically means more conservative (and older voters are more likely to vote)
- An influx of people from Puerto Rico after it was obliterated; will they vote? It's tempting to assume which way they would vote but we can't know that
- An extremely pro-Trump governor who is, uh, not handling coronavirus well in any aspect
- An absolutely obliterated economy since tourism has largely evaporated, with all the negatives that brings

And we're still almost half a year out. Buckle up, y'all.

Biden doesn't need Florida, but Trump can't lose it. Same is true in Iowa and Ohio which are now more competitive than they were 6 months ago. Like I said in a different thread, I'm not putting Texas in the toss up category until election day, but Trump isnt doing well here.

I still like that people think there will even be an election. Keep hope alive.

People signing waivers about covid to be told covid is "bigly under control" today tells you everything you need to know.

I am not worried that we'll have an election; the election is more than just a vote for the presidency. If there was an actual attempt to cancel it, you'd get massive pushback from the downballot effects, and it would in effect be the end of American democracy. You think the current marches are a big deal? Taking away the vote would be a completely different sort of thing, and the powers that be know that. There is no chance it happens. So I get why people are asking the question but I don't think it's a valid concern.

The really interesting question is, if Trump loses, what happens between November and January?

We have been over this, the election is mandated by the Constitution, it would take an act of Congress to move it.

Of course polls this far out mean little to nothing.

Trump going off on Fox is the amusing part.

Quote:
.@FoxNews is out with another of their phony polls, done by the same group of haters that got it even more wrong in 2016. Watch what happens in November. Fox is terrible!

If these things require herd immunity to fully peter out, then why are we complaining that others are volunteering themselves as virus bait?

Because they're "volunteering" and then infecting other people.

Lock every single rally attendee in the arena for two weeks, then it's fine.

The entire problem of covid is irresponsibility.

But aren't they infecting other people who are also not properly protecting themselves? Even early on people were saying that stopping Covid isn't feasible. The spread is going to happen regardless. It's just a matter of how quickly.

"How quickly" is important but not the only importance.

Not to try and over sensationalize it, but you can't really protect yourself from biological warfare. There just isn't enough PPE.

These people are going to be breathing on and touching everything, everywhere. It's unreasonable to put the burden on everyone they'll come into contact with.

The reasonable response is quarantining everyone who volunteers to go. You can't trust them to be responsible.

We don't know that herd immunity will work, yet. We don't have conclusive evidence that it gives you sufficient antibodies to prevent re-infection.

And "just make sure everyone gets it so we can get past it" works out great for the people who don't die from it. The ones who do, not so much.

Talk to Sweden about how that herd immunity worked out for them.

What I can't understand is why the republican intelligentsia chattering class wants to kill off republican voters.

Trump is in a lose/lose is why.

His ego is deflating. He can't be surrounded by cheering racists voters and without a podium he's a "nobody"

So... make a rally in a state you can't possible lose, and it doesn't matter how many of "your people" die. That way you get "sound bites" and news coverage with no risk.

Occasionally I try the devil's advocate approach just to see where it leads. Wasn't quite as interesting as I'd hoped.

Totally, kind of like a handful of lifer, white politicians taking a knee for 8 mins in traditional African neck gear in an enclosed area with cameras rolling.

Honest question, what are liberals waiting for when it comes to Covid? A cure? For a virus? It just doesn't seem rational to stay "shut down" indefinitely waiting for something mankind has never created in the history of medicine. So, what's the end game here? The media doesn't really make that clear, so people get antsy.

Nope. The goal, really, is to limit transmission. Early on one had any idea how to do that, so everything got shut down. But now we do know how to limit the spread (and keep ICU beds empty/ventilators available, which is the REAL goal). Just wear a mask. That's pretty much it!

The countries that have adopted heavy mask usage and coupled it with testing and tracing have seen vastly better outcomes than those who haven't. South Korea showed us all how to do it right.

I just got back from town, wore a mask the whole time. I'm conservative politically but, wearing a mask isn't a big deal to me. It IS hot as *** and annoying but, whatever.

That being said, I was in maybe the 2% of people who wore one and it was like Christmas in Lowe's/Walmart/Pep Boys (only places I went). Places were packed, so the whole time I am just thinking, "I'm not even wearing this for me, since me wearing a piece of soft paper on my face isn't stopping an airborne pathogen." So I think that is why so many just say F it.

Also, I wonder how these countries would have tackled this issue demographically/monetarily if they had 350+ million people to deal with in an area covering 3.8 million sq. miles.

I'm in the same boat. I wear one because why not, but we also just got mask mandates for Phoenix-area cities so maybe we'll be seeing more participation?

Mask usage doesn't really protect you; it helps prevent YOU from infecting other people while asymptomatic. Droplet transmission will get stopped/slowed by the cloth over your face.

The trick is that if EVERYONE wears a mask then everyone gets protected. Herd prophylaxis, essentially.

Seoul is significantly denser than NYC in terms of population.

Precisely, so why am I wearing one to protect others if nobody is wearing one to protect me, was the point. I think that's why people stop wearing them.

Yes, and that's a good thing when trying "round up" your citizens and get them to comply to a certain set of standards. The US is so vast, so spread out, it is basically impossible to expect the same level of voluntary cooperation as countries the size of Indiana.

My age alone is a high risk bracket. Nothing to do with my politics but mask and disposa gloves when I am in out small summer tourist town.

I don't know that I am waiting, just one day at a time.
