If anyone has the time or interest ~ this guy has a good rebuttal video about about Prager University's take on how and why the American Civil War started:
YouTube Video Placeholder The narrator goes into details about specific dates, quotes and reasons why the conflict occurred, what was the response in America as well as Europe and at the end he asks some tough questions to the proponents that the civil war was started because of slavery. As a student of history it WAS started because slavery. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" really started a movement in the north. The south was quite afraid of that movement.
You must understand that while the wealth of the north was concentrated in machinery and industry, the wealth of the south was concentrated in chattel slaves. Each reasonably healthy slave was worth, in today's terms, about the cost of a buick or infinity. That's a LOT of freaking wealth.

I think it's really important to separate the economics from the morality of that time. The Union didn't fight the war to "stop slavery", they fought it to prevent the Confederate States from leaving the Union. The South didn't fight the war to "keep slavery", they fought it to create a new country where they could maintain their economic independence.
Humans as property just happened to be deeply intertwined in the South's economy and the Abolitionists were starting to gain political power. Right before the War broke out the North even attempted to appease the South by promising they could keep their "Property", by then there was simply too much support for the Southern states becoming a new country.

At the end of the day, the South just had a different way of life, different culture, different economy and different beliefs. They rebelled out of fear for losing those, especially having their economy wiped out by the Abolitionists demands for immediate emancipation.
This should scare people.
Essentially we have two USA's, the first is the coastal urban population centers where the wealth and population is concentrated. Those are overwhelmingly Democrat, yeah the wealthy area's are Democrat. The rural areas are less populated and less wealthy but have a greater amount of resources, these area's are overwhelmingly Republican. The Democrats constantly antagonizing the Rural folks is a recipe for violence and unrest.

Umm what platform? The Republicans didn't have a platform in 2016, they were running anti-Trump hardcore until he beat them. Then they just kinda sat there in a corner while Trump beat the Democrats.

Meh, there’s still time.
I’m not nearly as invested in this election as the last one, but I still intend on voting. I voted Trump primarily for the Supreme Court (as did many others), so that was a huge win that doesn’t go away if he loses. Replacing Ginsburg would be a cherry on top, but I actually prefer a balanced court. Beyond that, what an excellent ticket to run against in 2024 if Biden even lasts that long.
