What I love about the topic of voter ID is that for every option that the right can come up with to mitigate 1. cost 2. time 3. discomfort of obtaining a state issued ID in order to vote and prove residency, the left comes up with some way to shoot it down and continue claiming it as racist.

The flip side to this is that the left is currently pushing for federal ID for purchasing both firearms and ammunition both from FFL holders (businesses) as well as private citizens (H.B. 5717) and this absolutely negatively impacts minorities more than whites, but none of the right is calling out racism on it, just that it's an infringement of the 2nd.

I 100% support a national ID system. We already have a defacto one in the form of SSN's as those are used for everything from bank accounts to tax paperwork. We need to create a new system with a 15 digit number that you get when your in the mid teens and serves as proof of citizenship / proof of residency / and for voting and tax purposes.

I can get behind that so long as the costs is comparative to that of obtaining an SSN. I have no children, I have no idea if there's cost to obtaining one, I know there's a small fee for changing your legal name on one, I went with my wife when she had hers all changed, but yeah I can go with that.

I'm also for a local or state register of firearms for one reason: owners are dumb, we need a serial number to enter one into NCIC if stolen, we've had stolen guns recovered in California after a crime was committed with it. Some people just don't keep records of lethal items. Same idiot has his truck's VIN written in 5 places so he can get parts, but gods forbid he has his shotgun's serial number even scribbled some place.

On the surface I'm ok with that, unfortunately liberal states have already used such lists for mass confiscation. I would love for a central police database that can be used to track stolen/ missing / recovered weapons, I don't trust what the faithful would do with such a thing.

Right now anyone can make a phone call and the police come knocking, then you gotta sue the state to get them back and hope they aren't destroyed in the six to eighteen months it takes for the courts to do their thing. The police destroy firearms within 90 days of receipt so virtually nobody gets them back.

There is no court, just one day the police show up, knock on your door and if your stupid enough to let them in they'll search your home and seize any firearms present. You then must petition the court to have them returned, the petition takes six to eighteen months until you get to see a judge where you argue that you aren't crazy or dangerous or whatever nasty things the anonymous person said about you.

Someone like Vic, Zero, Chanti, DirectX or any of the rest can start submitting the names of everyone they know, even second or third hand, via the new reporting system that then gets rubber stamped the same way no-knock warrants get rubber stamped.

That by the way was one of reasons for the insanity that happened in Richmond, the Democrats in Virginia attempted to one up California and have police kicking in peoples doors without any court system involved. After all the push back they reworded the bill so that the State is required to have a court hearing within 14 days of executing the confiscation.

Oh and to really sweeten, if someone has ever had a GVRO against them, they can't purchase a firearm for another five years even after they are successful in getting the rubber stamped GVRO removed. This is done by placing a restricted notification on the background system that's used when they do background checks.

Even after having a GVRO removed, if someone attempts to purchase one the system will prevent the licensed seller from selling it to you. It's not illegal for someone to own a firearm, it's illegal for the dealers to sell them one.

All this made possibly with the central firearm registry California has.
