I'm a big advocate of Monster Rearing, so sadly I had to let my Genbu go today. In its place, we have the brand new Mandragora. The baby version seems to enjoy being petted. Let's make this thread somewhere we can share information on how to/not to raise this pet.
What food does the baby mandy like best? I'll try one of the options SE mentions in the version update later.

how not to raise this pet. Step 1: Don't take out your Onion Sword.
Step 2: If you do take out your Onion Sword, do not apply it to your new pet.
Step 3: If you do apply it to your new pet, go find a new pet.

Thanks for this, I got the same for petting. Poking is definitely the way to go on the first stage at least. And it seems you found the best food right away .. nice. :) Poking + Distilled Water = Happy Mandy

There's a title for killing your pets like a ridiculous amount of times if you really wanna be a monster rearing completionist.

PS: Don't forget your Jubilee Shirts like i did. If you have a Kupon AW-Cos lying around now is a good time to redeem it.
Monster Rearing campaign starts tomorrow, so thatll help with evolutions too.

Brainstormed with my LS about the evolution path, and we came up with this. This guess is based on the similarities of the key item cheer bonuses, and the overall similarities of the models. Evolution food was basically disclosed to us in the update notes.
Theory based off of Cheer bonuses and model resemblance
Mandy Sprouting -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Feed: Acidic Humus -> Elder Mandragora
Mandy Sprouting -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Feed: Saruta Orange -> Lycopdoium -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Ake-Ome
Mandy Sprouting -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Feed: Amrita -> Adenium -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Elder Adenium
Mandy Sprouting -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Feed: Alkaline Humus -> Korrigan -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Pachypodium
Mandy Sprouting -> Feed: ??? or natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Feed: Watermelon -> Citrullus

Day 4 feeding:
2 star baby mandy -> watermelon -> visibly angry
1.5 star baby mandy -> saruta orange -> visibly angry
2 star baby mandy -> alkaline humus -> surprisingly not worthless
2 star baby mandy -> acidic humus -> surprisingly not worthless
Its possible that they all need to be adult Mandragoras before we can evolve further.
Got the Mandragora Sproutling memento after poking one today. Shop item is a Rarab Tail.

Is there a list of items that each memento opens up in the Mog Garden shop? If not, "Mandragora Sproutling Memento" unlocks Rarab Tails for 28g. EDIT: Beaten, I swear I didn't see Funk's post

I got the same memento today. For anyone interested, it gives VIT+2 and Alter Ego auto-regen+2. My mandy isn't happy enough to try any evolution food on it, and sadly have no voucher for that sweet shirt.

The mementos are all already listed, unknown is the sold item

Mandragora Sproutling at 2.5 stars, Acidic Humus, shudders violently, turned into a Korrigan. Same condition, Alkaline Humus, also shudders violently, turned into an Adenium.
Using a watermelon on a Mandragora Sproutling (2.5 stars), that started on the same day as the previous two, didn't make it shudder or anything.

Tried amrita (with jubilee shirt) on a sproutling at ★★☆ ー strongly resonated, no squirm, no shudder, no evolution. :<

Interesting results here. so 2.5 stars is required for an evolution. It follows the same rules as wyverns, cactuar, and other hnms where 2.5 stars is required.
Confirmed
Mandy Sprouting -> 2.5 Stars=Feed: Acidic Humus -> Korrigan
Mandy Sprouting -> 2.5 Stars=Feed: Alkaline Humus -> Adenium
Theory based off of new information
Mandy Sprouting -> 2.5 Stars=Feed: Acidic Humus -> Korrigan -> Feed: Ambrosia or Amrita -> Pachypodium
Mandy Sprouting -> 2.5 Stars=Feed: Alkaline Humus -> Adenium -> Natural evolution -> Elder Adenium
Mandy Sprouting -> Natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Natural evolution -> Elder Mandragora
Mandy Sprouting -> Natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Feed: Saruta Orange -> Lycopdoium -> Feed: Ambrosia or Amrita -> Ake-Ome
Mandy Sprouting -> Natural evolution -> Mandragora -> Feed: Watermelon -> Citrullus

We can't forget about Ambrosia being a requirement for one of the evolution conditions somewhere. The update notes in Japanese has it. For some reason, it must've gotten lost in the English notes when they translated it over.
September 2019 Update Notes in Japanese
September 2019 Update Notes in English
Edit: Also, I wouldn't attempt using an Amrita or Ambrosia on a 2.5 Mandragora Sproutling. A Twitter post by a Japanese player said that there was no shuddering. I know, I know. Not the most reliable source of information, but I wouldn't want to waste those items.

I had a few of them that I've been hoarding since 75 cap days sitting on a mule, so I figured I'd give it a shot. xD For science!
Probably wouldn't have if I'd known about said Twitter post, but I don't have an account lol

Adenium:
Distilled water, strongly resonated
Yell, stares off into the distance
Korrigan:
Hare meat, strongly resonated
Angry, strongly resonated
If anyone finds out what the correct interaction for Adenium is, it would be awesome if they can mention it here. Apparently it isn't getting angry at it, either.

If you guys have tried evolving the pets with items, should I let mine evolve naturally so we have more options? Mine is currently at 2 1/2 stars, so am open to any path we haven't been down so far.

Fed a Saruta Orange to a 2.5 star mandy sproutling, visibly angry. It was already reported that a watermelon was also a visibly angry result. Amrita was no good on a sproutling, so im going to assume Ambrosia also isnt.
Adenium, slapped and it got visibly angry. Already reported that poke and yell were also no good.
I HIGHLY doubt that we can go from a Korrigan or Adenium to a Lycopdoium. It must be Mandragora => Lycopdoium. I would not be surprised if its Korrigan => Citrilus AND Korrigan => Ake-Ome

I HIGHLY doubt that we can go from a Korrigan or Adenium to a Lycopdoium. It must be Mandragora => Lycopdoium. I would not be surprised if its Korrigan => Citrilus AND Korrigan => Ake-Ome Based on their cheer effects and KI placements, I highly suspect Lycopodium is on the same level of Mandragora, ala:
|
=> |
Mandragora |
=> |
Elder is obvs |
|
=> |
Adenium (proven) |
=> |
Elder (obvs) |
Sproutling |
=> |
Korrigan (proven) |
=> |
Pachypodium (same cheer effects as Korrigan, but larger + DA) |
|
=> |
Lycopodium (since it's cheer is CHR+3, matching Mandragora's +3) |
=> |
AkeOme (cheer is CHR+4 and KI placement matches previous positions) |
Citrullus, I'm uncertain of. It could be evolved only from Elder Adenium and Pachypodium because of the similar resist and +1'd regen cheer effects... But Elder Mandragora also has that weaker auto-regen too.
So it's quite possibly a final form that can come from any of them. (Though I suspect not AkeOme, but that's easily possible too.)
Remember, it can be any of the previously existing feeds for evolutions too. (We just know for sure that the 6 they added are 6/7 possible evolution foods. Maybe even /9. Dunno if Mandragora can be forced, or if Elder Mandragora requires something or not.)

Adenium
Pet => Surprisingly not worthless
Poke => Stares off into the distance
Slap => Visibly angry
Yell => Stares off into the distance
Angry => Didn't go over well
No evolution to adult mandragoras yet. Accidently gave my Korrigan a distilled water, but it strongly resonated with it, so liquids work too.

There is not a single other food that is duplicated twice in evolution of two different creatures, so it would surprise me if they suddenly made mandragora have a duplicated item.

There is not a single other food that is duplicated twice in evolution of two different creatures, so it would surprise me if they suddenly made mandragora have a duplicated item. True. And while this could be a first, I doubt that they would add new foods if they doubled up as well.
However.
Earth/Light/Lightning/Water/Wind Clusters, Gems of the North/South/West, Bastore Sardine, Bibiki Urchin, Noble Lady, Acorn, Chestnut, Dragon Fruit, Faerie Apple, Kitron, Millicorn, Persikos, Pine Nuts, Yagudo Cherry, Agaricus, Coral Fungus, Reishi Mushroom, Sobbing Fungus, Habaneros, La Theine Cabbage, (regular) Moko Grass, Ahriman Tears, Elixer, Distilled Water, Holy Water, Yellow Ginseng, Buffalo Meat, Giant Sheep Meat, Hare Meat, Hydra Meat, Warthog Meat, Blue Peas, Deluxe Carrot, Moon Carrot, Popoto, Vomp Carrot, Walnut, and Zegham Carrot are all the current food items that don't have a linked forced evolution trigger tied to them.
(I may have missed something somewhere, but still. That should be all of them.)
Though I think vis a vis Lycopodium... I would suspect something like Yellow Ginseng or one of the other liquids or one of the fungi. Or maybe even Yagudo Cherry...

I fed an Ambrosia to my sapling at 3 stars (could not be more content with life), and it resonated strongly. Will update when I see what happens.

Unless you see the messages "MONSTER squirms uncontrollably" or "MONSTER shudders violently.", then it wont evolve.
