The more value you bring to the table the better off you’ll be keeping a higher percentage of it. Also, i think you’d be surprised as to what defines “upper middle class” if you make 32k a year in america and are part of s two person household, you’re making better than the average.

My point is that even making 40k a year is on the upper half of “upper middle class”

That's really sad. Salaries and income are extremely region specific due to extremely differing home prices. Where I leave homes have a median value of over $500,000, while farther away their under $300,000 and if we jump states entirely they get to $200,000 or less. A job that pays $65K/yr in Louisiana would have to pay around $120K/yr where I'm at to have the same CoL. This is something the liberals know very well, they live in high CoL cities where they would use their yearly interest expense on the mortgage along with the high state income tax as a big deduction on their federal taxes. Those living in lower CoL locations couldn't do that and had to stick with the 12K federal standard deduction for a family. One of the best things Trumps's Tax plan did was raise the federal standard deduction to 24K while simultaneously liming the SALT to 10K and the mortgage interest to primary residence and only to the amount under $1 Million for a family. No middle class person is living in a million dollar home and is using the mortgage interest as a deduction to lower their income tax. No middle class person is paying that much in State Taxes that the new standard deduction wasn't better then itemization. The ones who did qualify for all that were liberal elites living in expensive cities and who just went nuclear that they couldn't force the middle class to shoulder more of their tax burden. Liberals who complain about "tax cuts for the rich" are just lying at this point, which is something they are comfortable doing anyway.

Yeah that’s exactly what happened to me. I got a nice boost in my paycheck from the tax rate cut. Then when i filed I figured out that the doubling of the standard deduction gave me a fair boost to the income that was tax free.
Living in a modest home finally paid off big time.

Anecdote time!
There's a cartoonist that I've been following on Instagram who has been achieving a boost of internet fame with a fantastic new web series. If you look at his Twitter, he's clearly a leftist, but his comics are apolitical so I don't care. Well, the latest comic that he put out yesterday has a comments section that is chock full of feminist rage. The comic itself is 100% benign, but someone discovered a Twitter post of his from 2017 that seems to suggest that he is pro-life. Now the dude can't post anything on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram without scores of angry women hounding him and upvoting each other until they get an explanation for his malfeasance. He had one instance of wrongthink two years ago and is now completely screwed. I got good on the tax cuts for my family and I. I guess I would be considered upper middle class.
I make about 90k a year (varies because I am a NP so pay scale varies) and the Mrs. is a Dental Hygienist making roughly 50k. It's how you live more than what you make that people do not realize. My house is assessed for 80K, she drives a 2012 Kia Sorento and I drive a 2015 Ford F150. We have money but we do not waste it on material things. I have 4 kids total. Put one through college, 1 currently in college, one is a Senior in HS and other is in 8th grade. Could we afford to have nicer vehicles or a 200k house, sure, but why? Everyone in NY seems to be trying to outdo the Jones's and winds up in debt. Hell, people do that all over. I myself would like to retire on my fat nestegg before I'm 4 years from death. Also, don't gimmie this ***that poor people don't have those opportunities I did. My family had jack ***when I was growing up. We ate good but my parents could not afford to send 3 kids to college. I needed college money so I went into the Army. Just about anyone can do that. Back when I went in in 1993 you got $50k for college, I'm sure it's higher now. tl/dr: GET OFF YOUR *** AND WORK FOR ***!
