Hello FFXIAH, long time no see. I have played the game for many years, but retired back in 2013. But I wanted to play some more now, so I have made a "fresh" install from CD-rom. But when everything is installed, and I'm trying to click on the playonline icon, ont won't open. Just thinks a few seconds, then nothing happens. So I was wondering, if anyone of you guys have an idea on what to do next?

Download windower and use that as a launcher. vanilla POL/FFXI is horrendous

It hsppened to me 2 weeks ago, and a try many ways. I gonna tell you what I did:

1. Re-Install in the link tha Cloudstrife post.
2. If you have windows 10 , or anyone, update windows.
3. Update controllers of your Graphic card

Hey guys,

Thanks for the helping hands. But I still have issues. I come to the last download part it says I have 8 mins left, and around 1% it crashes. I have now tried 10 times,install fresh once 6 times, rest was just try again, and it stops at the same spot.

I have updated my PC on screen, graphic etc.. And this computer used to run FFXI back in 2015. I also run WOW on this PC and Diablo III.

It gives me an "Error code called POL-0250 "No response from server. Please try again later or check networking devices, such as cables and router or network settings" I have a direct cable into my PC, and all other things such as TV, and other computers work on the network, so I know this part works fine. I tryed to contact SE support earlier today, but they can't help, they just tells me it is in my end it is something wrong :(

So any ideas what to do next?

Make sure your antivirus and firewall allow POL, Iv seen cases where the antivirus will stop incoming packets

I don't have Antivirus on this PC, unless there is something inside Windows 10 that prevents it to update. UAE is turned off aswell.

Sorry correction, I see I have F-secure installed through my tv and pc system, mabey that is the problem. try to get it disabled while update.

Update. I have now turned off ALL antivirus/defender within F-secure in windows 10. And still giving me the error on the last part of the update. So now I did a support question again....

But thanks for all advices and help.

Have you done this?

Go to control panel\Programs\Turn Windows features on or off
Locate Legacy components put a check mark on DirectPlay and pick OK.

1. Never install from the optical media anymore, they're trash/novelty.

2. Uninstall Playonline and reinstall from playonline.com (unfortunately you'll have to download the 3 data files on top of the .exe to do so, don't use the "pol for vista" thing either).

3. Verify directplay is enabled.

4. uninstall whatever that a/v garbage you listed is.

5. make sure no other 3rd party programs are running that could interfere, some vendors are known for wonky ***.

Not sure if you have this resolved yet or not but when I did an install a few months back I had to change the Network setting of check connection (enable or Disable) in the playonline viewer before you choose which character to log on with. I can't recall if I changed it to disable or enable though lol, but remember once I changed it the update went all the way through!
