I assume the HQ supply on backwater servers will start drying up. Asura is pretty reliably the lowest price for HQs so I bet there is a lot of buying there and hopping elsewhere that is going to stop when it becomes a one way trip.

Ya there's a lot of arbitrage going both ways. Raw materials brought to asura to sell for higher prices and the hq crafted items bought cheap to come back. Much of that will move to bahamut presumably. So expect asura and bahamut economies to have biggest adjustments.

To be fair, HQ supply is already dead on smaller servers like Cerberus. It's not even funny how difficult it is to see certain HQs. The only way to get specific gear is to either craft it yourself, make the jump, or happen to know someone making the jump who will return. This has been a problem for years now.

Now ban all the *** RMT bots
This could literally be a great moment for the server if it's properly purged
Make asura great again

I haven't been doing instanced content at peak hours enough to know, but has congestion gotten bad again in Odyssey/Sortie/Omen/etc? or is their definition of congestion # of characters on the server?

- The ability to use the World Transfer Service to transfer characters to Asura will be suspended.
means?!:
No more serverhopping buying/reselling all sellables? Kills a huge part of the ingame economy (+ RMT) i think. Has its pro's and con's... Prices lower for most stuff and things like dyna-weapons will be rare and pricy again.

Kind of hilarious that they're locking the server rather than just adjusting Vana'bout's shitty nonsensical design, which is the only reason there's congestion in the first place.
I was soloing V1VD for people all last month, and can count the number of times I had to wait in a long line on one hand.
If they're pretending their reasoning is a more general concern for the game's health, then it would be far more prudent to consolidate low pop servers.
By Seun 2025-07-22 08:02:36
I don't think we need a low pop server merger. We made a choice to be here so it's not like we wouldn't have jumped to Asura already if we thought the grass would be purpleer. Forced name change was annoying in 2010. Do not want.
What they should have done here was offer a free transfer to players on Asura to lower population servers. If they at least made an attempt to let players correct the issue themselves, they'd have better footing to come in with the locks and chains if necessary.
Other games have already done this right. Only allow transfers TO low/med pop and AWAY from high pop. Players are still free to create new characters on high pop servers, but they accept the possibility of congestion.

Exactly. the whole "You must take 75k damage" of VDB - per individual!! What idiot made that up? Why not make it shared by the party, so at least you get it even if you are support job and it still encourages part play.
But nooo... each person, take it on the chin. So everyone is going in solo with trusts and waiting the full 30 mins to get slapped and heal through it.
SE: "But why are there so many Ambuscade queues?!"

They were making a not-insignificant amount of money by ignoring the problem and letting people pay $20 fix it.
$40 per auction jumper. back and forth weekly/monthly trips.

This is by far the worst one and is the reason for all the congestion people are complaining about. I'm not gonna finish it on my chars.
Not even damage to your trusts counts for it.

If anything it's because every other *** has 6 accounts. The number of armies of bots running around and porting together has increased massively - not RMT but geared real players. SE designed this into the game now it suffers because of it.
Definitely noticed this within the last few months, the amount of 6 boxing on Asura has exploded. It's also ways been there, but there's just so much of it now. The bar for entry to 6 box these days is quite low given it's usually the same set of addons/3rd party applications running it all.
I personally tri-box, albeit off a controller, with no automation... so I can't really speak much to it.

There's literally two weeks to complete that goal, it's clearly not designed to be finished in a single run, rather during multiple runs spaced out among the two weeks. Spitballing, it's maybe between 10 and 20 runs depending on what job you are on? Not unrealistic for anyone doing ambu for puntos.

It's irrelevant how realistic it is to complete.
The point is that the nature of it (taking lots of damage on an individual level) combined with the high total needed naturally results in people sitting AFK getting hit in Ambuscade for the 30min time limit, which is the precise thing dramatically exacerbating the queue time situation this month.
Asura's Ambuscade queue isn't usually problematically congested at all. It's Vana'bout causing it, specifically that one objective.

it's not just asura, it's literally every server. yes, things like silmaril have had a major impact in the way people approach the game today. not quite as accepted and common as gearswap, but getting there. easy to use and a hell of a lot better than trusts. it has negative implications for sure, but it definitely filled a void for people wanting to play without relying on others to get things done.

You cant even sit afk, because your trusts will pull hate and either die or continue to accumulate enmity from curing each other.

Spitballing, it's maybe between 10 and 20 runs depending on what job you are on? Not unrealistic for anyone doing ambu for puntos. The only way your groups mages/support/DPS are reaching this goal is by tying up the area with extra nonsensical runs that will take a lot of time. Even my designated tank is only 32k/75k after getting the total HM needed in Vol1 and whatever extra seperate runs I did for the VB goals that came up that are ambu related.
Its a shitty goal and is the reason for the congestion.
Total HM is good, Total GA is good, Total damage dealt is good because even in a group, your support can whip out weapons and bang it out, then finish up in a separate run, 100k damage dealt isnt a lot to dish out. I didnt parse it, but I'm pretty sure Vol 1 on N has more than 100k HP. Its a nothing burger in comparison to taking 75k damage, as taking damage isnt a group oriented goal. Its a goal that only one person can accomplish at a time really.
A 75k damage goal trial should coincide with the ambu's that OHKO you for ridiculous damage amounts if you screw up the gimmick, like Dullahan or Mamool.

But the thing is, it's... it's not really something you're going to just do while you're running Ambuscade. Generally speaking, the goal is to not take 75,000 damage.
So you have to go in and *** around and get hit way more than you ever would if you were trying to actually win, and if you're doing that with a group that wants clears, well, pretty soon you're doing it solo. So the only real solution is just go in, do runs where you bend over and let the mobs have their way with you until time runs out, and get the stupid objective out of the way as soon as possible.
If there were, like, three options for that slot, "take 75,000 damage" "deal 150,000 damage" and "restore 50,000 hp", and you picked one to try to hit for that slot's worth of points, it'd probably make all of this go away. But Vana'bout isn't about choice, it's about you will do the objectives or you will sit in a corner and think about what you've done. Can't even have monthly campaigns any more for people who are just done with it to occupy themselves with.

they could really use a better feedback system for things like this, official forums are a bit antiquated and not even a guarantee the issue gets seen in reasonable time.

If they want to equalize populations, SE could simply give incentive for joining and staying on the smaller servers which isn't overly broken/exploitable and can be taken away if a server grows too much.
Some examples would be permanent EXP/CP + skill up campaigns. Offering the discount campaign exclusively to smaller servers (and make it longer), along with more free trials. Giving out extra freebies. Little things that would make returnees more encouraged to join a smaller server to reap those benefits.

Its very likely the migration process in of itself is kind of a pain in the *** to maintain.
I wouldnt doubt some non-trivial % of migrations results in calls to customer support, which costs SE money and effort.
They charge for the process sure but in the end, I expect what SE really wants is for people to stop server hopping at all and just stay in one place.

I always figured it was the opposite. The very reason SE has never changed this is because it was making money. Perhaps they aren't making enough money from it in 2025 to justify the service, which is why they are finally doing something about the overpopulation.

I've been saying this for many years. Just give bonuses to the smallest 3 servers. It'll sort itself out, so simple.
Global AH, too. (not so simple, but effective)
