The regional stuff is a constant problem, not even a month ago people were posting about conquering tavnazia because their progress on cooking shield was blocked by it ( http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/51177/bismarck-take-over-tavnazia-region-for-parsley#3276983 )
lo and behold, the item causing that roadblock is readily available on all servers during this event, among other items that may be problematic for shield or guild points
it's not an amazing event, but it's an extra event that solves an annoying problem for a handful of players and they probably spent less than an hour in combined effort to set it up.. relax
Yes, it seems people love to moan over the smallest things. They did this for the laugh .. and at the same time it helps crafters. I'm not a crafter .. I'll never get to the actual Morbol cafe, yet I ain't complaining.

Has anyone discovered the point of this? the point is to help people that are making crafting shields but the regions vendors they need are never active for years. Has anyone discovered the point of this? the point is to help people that are making crafting shields but the regions vendors they need are never active for years. Odd I looked at all of those items.... I used none of those for goldsmithing, alchemy or bonecraft... so I assume cooking shields are having issues.

When I saw the comment making crafting shields instead of "cooking" shields I got excited and confused when I saw nothing for my shields lol

I haven't seen anyone talk about this event during the current cycle, but the Green Festival is live until the 18th. It's a rare one that only comes around like once a year. There's some interesting food options available from Cafe Maid #2.
Cheaper stuff stacks to 99 and lasts 5 minutes (perfect for short fights like Sortie Bosses or UNM w/e, helping someone with a quick fight; In Sortie, the food will wear off by the time you get to the next boss due to all the travel). Most food lasts for 30min/60min/180min, but a lot of it is wasted due to idle time/afk/death/travel, so I think 5-min food is an interesting on-the-go type of deal.
They're not groundbreaking, but interesting budget options. STP/DA, MDB, MBB+2 FC etc. Worth holding on to a few stacks. The annoying part is the Ex 5-min food isn't sendable to mules, so I have to make space in Storage to hang onto them, but still worth the inventory space IMO.

Thanks for the reminder!
Also, the fact you can get a green apron and rancid coffee seems like shots fired at a certain coffee shop.

Is there anything in the game as good as popoto gratin for capped attack/acc situations? I'm drawing a blank.

Derp, that'd do it. Still seems handy to grab a stack or two and pop one before a zerg, since they stack to 99. Might be comparable if you're using a multihit, not that they have a ton of play any more.

That maid shop also sells behemoth sandwiches https://www.ffxiah.com/item/6579/behemoth-sand and cheesesteak sandwiches https://www.ffxiah.com/item/6575/cheesestk-sand for a mix of attack/defense stats.

I would mention that the Rustic fish is the best food anyone likely to get for solo blue doom farming Odyssey. I mean, sure Altana's repast is better.. but I'm not spending those everytime I cruel joke farm odc.
Its hard to get food with both magic accuracy and evasion. this is really just the right amount the make sure the current gear sets for macc and eva keep you going.

The duration on most modern food kinda doesn't matter in many instances. 75% or more of the duration is basically lost if you're not actively fighting something. A repast or stewpot lasts 180 minutes but you never get the return for the time investment, even if the food is AOE. Doubling the food effect from something gets you more use out of longer duration foods, but between travel time, death, afk or other idle time, a lot of it is wasted. I think the shorter food snacks are practical for how a lot of people might play, and it doesn't take away from the current food options like Gyudon or Popoto Con Queso. You're also less likely to need an antacid since the food will wear off quickly.

Rustic Fish is underrated, weaker version of seafood gratin. It's perfect for like double omen swart runs back to back on THF.

It can be a pain in the *** to re apply food every 5 minutes, in addition to all the running around, vs just applying the full duration food.
Situations
You gotta be going pretty sweaty to want to pop a food before every fight for 10 dps
(which some of you are that sweaty, just making the point. I would think sortie is miserable enough without adding in remember to use food 9 times, but that's that masochism baby)

difference from seafood gratin is that there is no Macc on Seafood Gratin. That doesn't matter much for Omen. but for Cruel Joke, it very much does when you go to upper floors. If you don't have any macc buffs, you might find yourself is a peculiar position w/ a large crowd and too many did not fall to cruel joke.
I had that happen once on floor 5 of Sheol B.
I had 3 groups of mobs pulled. including tigers and Marids. I had never had so many survivors without a clear message in the log, probably 1/2 of the 3 groups survived. Most I remember before that is 4 survivors. Usually none.

No more of a pain in the *** than popping Frontier Sodas, Panaceas, Silent Oils/Prism Powders, or using Last Resort/No Foot Rise/Meditate/JAs, reapplying hastes/refresh/buffs/songs every time they're ready for every fight. You wait for buffs prior to most bosses anyways. You stop to use meds while travelling anways. You stop to open chests anyways. /hurray, magic on bitzer, etc. It becomes muscle memory once you add it to your routine.
Now if you run 6 characters non-stop and treat the game like a job/chore, of course that would be annoying to you. You probably can't understand how a normal player functions and the benefits of it, it's not always about dps. So clueless

I don't mind the 5 min foods much.
I used to use the cookies for killer effects all the time. recast lines up perfectly with Killer Instinct. +12 Killer effect for species of choice is really really nice. Still useful if you want to killer tank. There isn't really another way to effectively cap killer effects. 50% killer effect is REALLY cool.

Oh i used to stock up on these when this event came around. We need some more cool foods like that
By waffle 2025-08-08 09:18:28
I honestly think it's a bit silly that these aren't craftable, especially the ones that essentially give you the recipe in the description.
Add them to the crafting shield KI or something. The cooking shield is lacking in that respect to begin with.
