I know they said that but it's still possible it could be something like
earn points for upgrade -> get upgrade item with points -> trade upgrade item in
where the upgrade item is then tradeable/AHable. (Guessing the item is the cards). But if they're R/E it's definitely do it all yourself, lol.

I think they made their job a lot easier by picking the AF pieces to upgrade first as those tended to have a lot of unique stats that even the HQ abjurations did not provide or did not provide in the right slot.
The ACC/M.ACC AND +16 BP DMG bonus from the SMN body makes it easy to full time for blood pacts, for only a little bit of min/maxing given up and a lot of gil saved.
And finally +3 refresh on horn :)
WHM also gets several nice pieces; legs extend regen duration, feet now adds +10% to enhancing buffs , so +15% with Dynasty mitts. Which buys us a few extra seconds on those regen,haste and boost spells.
Hands with the +4% Cure potency II is nice.
Nice upgrades for SMN and WHM all around :)
