Just so people know, since gil cost is a big part of getting 20 different monsters summoned, you don't have to have all 20 at once. You can level them up while you gather other ones and sell them once they are worth a bit (seems like level 7 or so).

I had 13 monsters in my roster when it triggered as I had sold quite a few.

Ya i've been doing this. make 3 flans or w/e. do a quick shiva run and they are like lvl 13. sell for profit and repeat

If you are still having trouble finding a copy of FF Explorers and live in the Houston, TX area, the GameStop at 59 and Weslayan has 5 copies remaining from a shipment they got today.

I started the second tutorial quest for using crystal surges and I go out and get 100 resonance but when I hold L and R like the tutorial says nothing is there to use. Am I being stupid and missing obvious or what? <.<

Finally sitting down and playing the game. It kinda reminds me of FFXIV: ARR so far. Though I don't play FFXIV, I was on the beta test for a bit and the gameplay so far seems to emulate 14.

Sometimes it isn't 100 exactly. You should get a message in the middle of the screen saying it is ready.

Just keep doing move and beating things to death text appears on the screen saying your surge is ready and press L+R and select one.

Not sure what to do on my MNK myself. I've been focusing on combo bonus on my moves but I'm not even sure if that's a good idea lol.

5 star bumps up the difficulty quite a bit.

4 star I was on BRD or Time Mage just buffing and curing my monsters until they killed everything... Now I'm fighting Amaterasu on 5 star and getting 1-2 shotted pretty consistently.

That being said I'm using gear mostly from 2~3star quests... Normally in MH games I tough it out with garbage gear until near endgame. Not sure I can swing that here, since there's a lot less combat depth and often I find myself getting hit no matter what I do on support jobs.

The more I play the less this game is like a MH clone. Tearing away the MH-like expectations I had for the game I'm enjoying it in different ways. Although the job system is rather disappointing I really like the abilities. Accessories and unique stats on weapons are rather interesting too (but armor is pretty boring it seems).

I'm still not sure how upgrading gear works? Is there a limit? Does upgrading stats count towards that limit?

I'm no savant, but it seems like there are caps, and depending on the gear some stats have lower caps that others.

One thing I can say for sure is that once I switched to BST it started raining souls.

It's one of its effects.

It unlocks as you progress.

I got past that one, did a few more quests, and got to another one called "Call it Market Research". Kill 20 of any Monster and use one Crystal Surge".

I guess it was just a tutorial thing becuase I don't have Moonlight Slash any more. And all the other jobs I have now don't actually have abilites that damage the mobs like Moonlight Slash. Boost, Provoke, Barrier, Precision, etc...

I used it every time I could. In the tutorial the resonace went up by like 15-20~ or so every mobs. This time it gives like 5-6. And I think it drops slightly faster the higher you go. I got to around 64-65 and even though I was hitting Boost as much as I possibly could I was only gaining like 0-1, sometimes 2 if I was lucky per move. Is there and easier way to gain resonance with these non-tutorial moves? This Crystal Surge quests are becoming a royal pain in my ***, lol.

@wakemidget talk to the crystal in the main square you can buy/unlock abilities.

now for the reason I came here for, how does on go about getting the dlc... i didn't see an in game interface for it, went to the Nintendo shop and only had the digital game.

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am on the exam for capturing an Eidolon. I have the easiest time fighting Ifrit and it says any Eidolon on the quest so I went after him. I have tried 5 times now, each time I get him down to ~5% and get right in his face, but I don't the the surge option I need to capture him. Eventually I get frustrated and kill him so I can retry.

Any tips?

Unlocked BLU last night.. First spell I learned was 1000 Needles. Then Goblin Punch.. And it didn't seem to be the you see mob you learn spell the pre release guides where saying, there seems to be a chance like in XI since after killing 6 goblins I didn't get the ape to the last one, And they don't have use the move at least, was one shotting the goblins and got its move lol

Use an item called an Oracle. This will shuffle your crystal break moves till the capture one pops

Finally got Paladin unlocked... Jesus it took forever and a lot of materials/gil. It was indeed a 15% AVERAGE of ALL equipment to unlock it.

I'm sitting at 14% weapons, 7% shields, 18% head, 15% torso, 18% legs, 19% accessories according to my notebook. I just created 3 more weapons and it unlocked paladin.

I also checked my titles and I didn't get to 100 created items yet, so that rumor appeared to be false. Samurai is still supposed to be 150 crafted items though.

I'm rolling with 2 Centurions and a Cactaur myself. The way I got around it was I doubled Monster health and damage.

Also you can reshuffle your surge options by using like 2-3 abilities.

Regular.

Also the game takes a bit of a jump at 6Star.

For those wondering on the DLC it's already in the game. They made it so it unlocks over the course of the game.

Now for some questions, this game has a title system? And I thought there was a glamour/lockstyle system?

Well as it turns out the only thing you can do is remove your helmet via the options. The outfits for classic final fantasy characters take up your body and feet slot. It removes your headpiece and you can't even put a hat on or it unequips the set.

The glamour option in the start menu allows you to enter the character creator and make whatever changes you want, but I'm not seeing a way to vanity items over other equipment like I expected either.
