Finally unlocked Samurai. Took FOREVER! Can confirm it is 150 Unique items crafted.

Now I'm concerned about these Complete 300 different quests titles.

Does this include subquests or are there more hidden quests?

Samurai was by far the worst to unlock lol. I had a count of 153 items but then I remembered that I bought some from the shop NPC. Good question on the quests though. I'm sure you'll find out sooner than I will lol, I'm just about to unlock 9 star stuff.

I gave samurai the best shot of them all. It's insanely high damage but I couldn't stay alive through most moves. I wish it could use deflect.

So I tried out Blue Mage, Samurai, and Thief last night. I think I've been playing Paladin so long that nothing else feels right. Blue Mage comes close because I can use deflect still and play the same style. But I absolutely hated the experience on everything else so far.

I'll try again another time and just stick with Paladin for now. I've become pretty good at it and with the right pets/my friends, I can handle just fine.

I think with a Ragnarok my damage output should be much better.

What is supposed to be so special about BLU? I didn't see any new spells/abilities unlocked when I unlocked it. Seemed kind of mediocre.

You actually have to get the spells. Just like FFXI and pretty much every other installment where BLU has been a job.

From the start I was interested in Machinist. Then here and on the Reddit it was pointed out how it is probably the best DD because Desperado is an 8 hit move on top of its other benefits (longer trances, speed up ability use and cooldowns). Last night I went online and pretty soon every group had at least 3/4 machinists. I don't feel special anymore, even though my gear and stats were much higher than theirs. Boo, looks like I will have to find another underdog job to enjoy.

I'm at 5* now and I have to say, the complete lack of defense on Machinist is starting to hurt. Many of the Eidolon moves are now instant death, and some of them (like Fenrir and Bahamut) are extremely hard to avoid.

I can either dodge or shoot... but most of the gun attacks are fairly slow and clunky so to deal damage usually means to get hit.

I am using cactuar and chocobo pets now, but I can see I will need a tank pet soon.

Same here or with close friends, which thankfully 2 irl best friends have it too. I was actually late to the 3DS party while they yelled "about time" at me lol.

Can't wait for fire emblem fates next. 3DS has quickly become my favorite new thing.

Try using Mandragora and Centurion pets. Centurion has some ridiculous malice generation and Mandy is pretty good about keeping him topped off.

So screwing around with SAM I can completely see how it can be really powerful BUT I think it lacks the umph to stick to a target like MNK. It gets staggered easily.

Skill Link is a must for SAM since the big combo is Snowstorm > Nether Moon > Cherry Blossom. If you get hit during that it has a decent chance to lower your damage by a league or two. Skill link lowers the combined cast time to around 2 seconds lol.

Ok, I have failed the "Magicite Exam" quest multiple times. I've easily solo'd all of the Eidolons but I've yet to get the "Crystal Surge" option when I have the NM down to a sliver of health.

Can someone help me out with this? What am I missing? What do I need to do?

1. you can not bring pets. as they can kill it near the end and ruin your christmas.

2. save your trance until the eidolon is near 1/4hp or a little less depending on the damage you do. then pop trance and use skills until your crystal surge refreshes. this should give you "encase" as one of the options.

Think it works when the eidolon is close to like 1/5th or so hp. Though not 100% when you can encase. maybe its less. just trance when they are low and you can safely get 5 or so skills off without killing them so it refreshes.

Ok, extreme n00b question. How do I use Trance or am I thinking of something else? Yes......I'm that dumb. And also give me a break, I've been in the hospital. :(

Don't think trance is unlocked until later for ya Siviard. Actually right after the first Eidolon capture you get Trance.

Just get them down to barely any health left and then use 2-3 abilities and it should change some of the CS options. the 2-3 abilities don't even have to hit in order to change the CS options. Make sure you use the "Encase" CS when you are near the target.

Finally got it, only took me 12 tries to get "Encase" to finally show up.

I dunno if they have access to daggers, but that is the weapon that has that BLU Z weaponskill.

I started playing SAM, had built a Daitsuren and powered it up a bit before going into content. At first it was kind of rough; I had really low defense and died a lot because I hadn't been playing melee jobs. Now that I've enough defense not to die to a single hit, there hasn't been anything that's lasted longer than 3 minutes.

SAM is insanely powerful. I'm using a gap closer, Shiranui, then I Nether Moon into Cherry Blossom and I use Peerless Illusion whenever it's up. I tried the Snowstorm combo and combo links but I felt a strong Peerless Illusion was better since there's also invulnerability moments in it.

On another note dmg outside of Trance moves cannot exceed 9999. My Crits are getting capped ; ;

Untrue. As drk, I did a 26k crit(single damage, the 2nd hit was about 8k), berserk+catastrophe. I also managed 80k, but used giant on alexander, unlocked Cecil that way. It's probably dependent on your buffs/weapon, both of my axes give a lot of crit.

Trance -or- Crystal Surge allow the 9999 cap to be broken.

You most certainly can dual wield axes

You can't dual wield rods though, tried that. Not sure on spears, I'd assume so, but I need to do the mastery quest to find out

Yup you can. The skill itself says swords, axes, daggers, spears, ninjato, clubs, bells, firearms.

Only reason I don't dual wield anymore is because I have the auto-shell shield since I was dying to magic a lot.

Still, untrue o.o Just did a 16k crit with only berserk+catastrophe full charge, no trance or surge.

Yeah, EL = explorer lvl. Old screenshot, 81 atm lol

I want to give scythes a try, but I'm unsure if it counts both axes for total dmg, seeing as both have 114? each and the first scythe going off what I've read has 143. Plus dual wield helps get ap back super fast.

From what I can tell it does not for any abilities. Attacking a bit faster and having more weapon effects seems to be the only benefit.

What Augments do you have on Catastrophe because I am using higher level weapons than you and still cap at 9999 when I crit doing that.

paralyze 3, water 1, fire 1, ice 1, freeze 2, ap inverse factor 2, which works great since berserk drains ap.

Does DRK mastery give a passive to break damage caps?

I'm testing this out on BST but no luck.
