Vote Republican for more ***.
Both suck, I don't see why the conservative pack wants to vilify democrates when their ***stinks just a little more.
It's not like there is a solution to vote for.
It isn't the liberals or conservatives that are the problem in this country, it is the liberal progressives and neocons that are ruining this country. Liberal progressives with give away more free stuff and tax people more and neocons with let's war some more and tax people more.

Take your conversations about american politics to random. Maldini once again comparing EU to the USA brought this about. These trends point towards a prosperous future for the US:
- Back in the 1970s, about one out of every 50 Americans was on food stamps. Today, about one out of every 6 Americans is on food stamps.
- Four planet Earths would be required to sustain the levels of consumption of the U.S.
-1 American consumes the same amount of resources as 32 Kenyans.
-8 billion chickens are consumed annually in the US
-1 out of every 8 Americans have been employed by McDonald's at some point in their lives.
-Only one state in the entire country has an obesity rate of under 20 percent. 11 states have an obesity rate of over 30 percent.
-27% of Americans believe the moon landings were faked
-America has the highest incarceration rate and the largest total prison population in the entire world by a wide margin.
- 9 million people are in prison around the world, 25% of that number is in the US alone.
-Approximately 12–13% of the American population is African-American, but they make up 60% prison inmate population
-In 2014, police in the United States killed 1,100 people. During that same year, police in Canada killed 14 people, police in China killed 12 people and police in Germany didn’t kill anyone at all.
-When LBJ’s “War on Poverty” began, less than 10 percent of all U.S. children were growing up in single parent households. Today, that number has skyrocketed to 33 percent.
-In 1950, less than 5 percent of all babies in America were born to unmarried parents. Today, that number is over 40 percent.
-Why does the family unit matter? because The poverty rate for households that are led by a married couple is 6.8 percent. For households that are led by a female single parent, the poverty rate is 37.1 percent.
- According to one recent survey, 81 percent of Russians now have a negative view of the United States. That is much higher than at the end of the Cold War era.
- According to a study conducted by economist Carl Benedikt Frey and engineer Michael Osborne, 47 percent of the jobs in the United States could soon be lost to computers, robots and other forms of technology.
-MGTOW: 86 percent of men include “having children” in their definition of success. For women, that number is only 73 percent.
-America has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the world by a very wide margin.
-Approximately one out of every four teen girls in the United States has at least one sexually transmitted disease.
-America has the highest STD infection rate in the entire industrialized world.
-According to the latest figures released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, there are 20 million new sexually-transmitted infections in the United States every single year, and Americans in the 15 to 24-year-old age range account for approximately 50 percent of those new sexually-transmitted infections.
-Apple has more cash than the US Treasury.
-Americans spend more on health care per capita than anyone else in the world by far, and yet we only rank 35th in life expectancy.
-Only 30 percent of all Americans can tell you in what year the 9/11 attacks happened.
-According to a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, nearly 70 percent of all Americans are on at least one prescription drug. An astounding 20 percent of all Americans are on at least five prescription drugs.
-Americans spend more than 280 billion dollars on prescription drugs each year.
-According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, doctors in the United States write more than 250 million prescriptions for antidepressants each year. (in a population of 320 million)
-Children in the United States are three times more likely to be prescribed antidepressants than children in Europe are.
-War on Drugs (just not corporate drugs): In the United States today, prescription painkillers kill more Americans than heroin and cocaine combined.
-56 percent of all Americans now have “subprime credit”.
-America leads the world in money given to fake charities.
- In 2008, 53 percent of all Americans considered themselves to be “middle class”. In 2014, only 44 percent of all Americans consider themselves to be “middle class”.
- 40 percent of all workers in the United States actually make less than what a full-time minimum wage worker made back in 1968 after you account for inflation.
-America has the largest national debt in the history of the world. Back in 1980, the U.S. national debt was less than one trillion dollars. Today, it is over 17 trillion dollars.
-There is a city in the US actually called "HELL".
The National Enquirer headlines with too many credible sources.

France far right party 'routed'
Quote: France's far-right National Front (FN) has failed to win a single region in the second round of elections, exit polls indicate.
Early results suggest the party has been beaten into third place, despite leading in six of 13 regions in the first round of votes a week ago.
The polls predict Nicolas Sarkozy's centre-right Republicans will win most seats ahead of the ruling Socialists.
Acknowledging defeat, FN leader Marine Le Pen pledged to keep fighting.
And she blamed the outcome on the mainstream parties which joined forces to keep the FN from power, telling her supporters they had been "disenfranchised in the most indecent of ways by a campaign of lies and disinformation".

So FN didn't win a single region in the regional elections in France. This is a victory for everyone in Europe. Turnout at the polls was significantly higher than usual which goes to show people do care.
Le Pen still isn't out for running for pres in '17 but it's a signal that the phenomenon can be contained if people don't let apathy, anger, or fear take over.
edit: wow Kara did you read my mind

Told you not to worry. Western Europe for the most part is just too mature. However that can change in as little as 10 years. Look at what Fox news has done to the US lol.

Well no..like I said on the previous page, even if they don't win, the fact that they have so many voters is concerning enough and it's a threat to take with due seriousness.
For example a lot of people don't go to vote cause they think in the end it doesn't matter..but it does, and talking and informing is an important aspect to make sure people understand and act.

I've looked into this since coming on here this week and seeing so many EUs worried about it.
Its economics again. A lot of hidden resentment towards Germany, marginalized people who feel detached from the fate of their country, lack of knowledge and ignorance, and tons of xenophobia scapegoating that despicable politicians like La Pen use to irresponsibly emotionally charge those who feel sidelined.
Solution: Lots and lots of informing. The media should be responsible.

Would someone be kind enough to explain why nationalism is bad?

Would someone be kind enough to explain why nationalism is bad?
In a vacuum, it's just an idea. In practice, it leads to all kinds of really dangerous things. Nationalism was responsible for much of the atrocities in the USSR. People were unwilling to view their government critically and thus, the government was allowed to do horrible things. Nationalism here led to the invasion of Iraq.
Does that answer your question sufficiently?

America is having the same xenophobic and racist issues stemming from nationalism as Europe.
What's up with your backseat moding over topics you are interested in lately?
It's actually her thread, so she can make those kinds of determinations within reason. I don't think it's unreasonable for her to want the thread focused on European politics as that's the topic. Parallels, however, are obviously going to come up, and that's between her and the mods if it is a problem.

Not really.
What do you mean by unwilling to view their government critically.

How do you not understand that? The government says stuff or does stuff and the people just accept it instead of questioning it.

Nationalism - Loyality and Devotion to a Nation.
Sounds extremely evil.

Gotta love the tolerance and understanding around here.
I had an idea what it meant in the USA but didn't know if it was the same in Europe and I asked for a definition, politely! Then get attacked and called ignorant. Classic response from you guys however. You never fail to disappoint.

Worked so well in Yugoslavia huh?
Nazi Germany?
Fascist Italy?
North Korea?
How many examples do we need to see that nationalism (especially in Europe) is dangerous? Not sure what you're going on about here. Just cause your loyal to your country and it's personal sovereignty doesn't make wars happen. No I don't see anything wrong with pledging allegiance to the flag.

Asura.Floppyseconds said: »Every political thread involves bickering. I am not too sure what is really expected that also coincides with reality. It's gotten to the point where there is more bickering than staying on topic and you throwing out 'it happens' and 'everyone does it' isn't helping. There are EU users here who are actually invested in this subject and 'boo Democrats/Republicans' and the pissing matches is probably as irritating to them as it is to me and before you ask, no one 'whined' to me via reports.
Quote: The European Union is under threat from rising populism and nationalism fuelled by a record migrant influx, European Parliament president Martin Schulz warned Tuesday.
"The European Union is in danger. No one can say whether the EU will still exist in this form in 10 years," Schulz said in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt.
In the EU there were now "forces at work to drive us apart," said the German politician.
"We must avoid this because the consequences would be dramatic."
The alternative to the EU would be a "Europe of nationalism, a Europe of borders and walls" -- a formula that had led the continent into "catastrophe" repeatedly in the past, Schulz said.
Germany is on course to take in one million asylum seekers this year, half of them from Syria.
Schulz voiced concern about a lack of solidarity by many EU members in hosting the refugees, and about moves by several eastern European countries to build new barriers.
He said "the retreat of many governments into nation-based thinking is fatal".
"No country alone can handle challenges such as migration, climate change, terrorism, trade and international crime. We can only do it together, as the EU." This is an important topic imo. Cause what happened in France the other day with the extreme right winning the majority of votes is not an isolated case. It's happening all over Europe, and in Italy too the far right gains worrying levels of consensus.
Philip II of Macedon said dividi et impera. The more our union falls apart, the weaker we become and a fertile ground for more wars.
