No Sound Effects In Ffxi

Havent really been playing for a while so I dont know how long this has been happening but I get BGM on windower 4 but no sound effects (spells, target cycling, ja, ws)

any ideas what to do? the effects slider is all the way up, the bgm slider works

Check the sound effect number in the registry (0029). I've seen the older versions of Windower set it to 0 before, resulting in no sound like that (haven't seen it with 4, but never know).

Start->Run...

Regedit

Computer->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE

(If you are using 64-bit Windows, then the following will be under Wow6432Node, with the other 32-bit registry entries)

When you highlight that folder, you'll see a list of registry keys. Wikia's graphics entry actually lists what they all are http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Graphics

Anyway, 0029 is number of sound effects. Normally, it's set between 12 and 20. If it's set to 0, then you get no sound effects, and I've seen the old Windower launcher do that.

I clicked that 0029 and it came up with 0, so looks like thats it? D:

Yeah. You can just double click the entry, change the radio button to Decimal, and put in 12 (or whatever). Far as I know it won't take effect until you restart the game though.
